One of the neat little features in WWE: Legends of WrestleMania was that the game used WWF/WWE archive footage to help move the game along. When playing through the WrestleMania tour, the game would play some archival footage to help set the stage for the next match. A combination of wrestler promos and parts of the actual match were played, and this did nothing short of psych you up for the coming match. I thought it would be an awesome feature to have in WWE Allstars, and luckily it will be. Here are three “teasers” of what will be possible with the finished game: Read More

Eighth Platinum Trophy: WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

It’s been bugging me that the only trophy I was missing for Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 was the Last Man Standing trophy, which you unlock after winning an online Royal Rumble match. This is extremely difficult. For starters, you actually have to find a match. After managing to get a match going, the next challenge is to keep it going. The final challenge is to actually win. I’ve tried many times, and most of the time I got booted out due to the other player disconnecting. I also lost twice against other players, once against the AI, and just this morning the game disconnected when I was the last player standing. Needless to say, it’s a tough trophy to get…unless you find someone in the same situation!
I went over to ps3trophies.com and posted up a plea for help. The site is dedicated to, you guessed it, PlayStation trophies! There are not only a ton of in-depth trophy guides to help you get them on your own, but the extremely active community is also very helpful in aiding other players in getting missing online trophies (something they call “trophy boosting.”) So I went to the SvR 2011 sub-forum and posted for help in the online Royal Rumble thread. I eventually received a friend invite from one of the guys on there, and he was also missing the RR online trophy. So we created a private match between the two of us and played two rounds of the Royal Rumble…he wanted me to win the first match, and then I let him win the second match. This worked out very good, since by working together we were able to eliminate every opponent almost the second they entered the ring. I was happy to finally get the Platinum, and had fun playing and talking to someone else. Read More

Seventh Platinum Trophy: WWE Legends of WrestleMania

This was definitely the shortest Platinum trophy I have gotten. I had rented the game when it first came out, before I was as addicted to trophies as I am now. After playing it for awhile, I decided that I had had enough of it and sent it back, with only six trophies missing. Last week I had some downtime in my Gamefly queue, and I was itching to get some simple WWE action going to get me pumped up for Allstars, so I re-rented Legends of WrestleMania to get the Platinum. I received the game Thursday from Gamefly, and about six hours later I had all the trophies I was missing and a sweet new Platinum. One thing I have to say is that while some of my Platinums were either a lot of work (Sacred 2) or tedious (Lego Harry Potter), I really enjoyed spending time with Legends of WrestleMania to get the Plats.
As for my next Platinum, I am still only one gold trophy away from completing Smackdown vs. Raw 2011, so I think it’s a safe bet that that will be my next.
PS3 Review: WWE Legends of WrestleMania

I had given the game a rent when it first came out almost two years ago, and I gave it a pretty horrible review. I don’t mean horrible as in it is a horrible game, but horrible as in what I actually wrote was horrible. I was tempted to just delete it, but I would rather let it sit there to remind myself how far I’ve come with my writing. Also, in my defense, I think it came from my old website, and I had just copied and pasted it, since I didn’t take my old site as serious as this one. Anyway, I rented the game again from Gamefly for two reasons. First, I am getting really excited for WWE Allstars and wanted to play something that would be a little similar to whet my appetite until the game is released next month. Secondly, I was pretty darn close to getting the Platinum, so I decided to go back and get it. I may have given the demo some horrid reviews, but the game is in fact pretty enjoyable.
First off, the main draw of the game, which sets it apart from the Smackdown vs. Raw franchise, is the roster. Legends of WrestleMania lets you take control of one of thirty-eight WWE “legends” or your own CAW (create-a-wrestler) as you partake in a variety of matches and modes. The roster is full of old wrestlers I’m not familiar with, such as Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Koko B. Ware, and Kamala. The biggest roster draw are probably the “classics”, such as Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, Yokozuna, Jake The Snake Roberts, The Million Dollar Man, and The Road Warriors. There are also current or recent roster wrestlers, but they appear as they did early in their career. For example, Triple H appears as the Greenwich-blue blood Hunter Herst Helmsley, and is nowhere near as buff as he later became, Shawn Michaels rocks a mullet, and the Undertaker looks almost twenty years younger before he was completely covered in tattoos. The youngest wrestlers to appear in the game (in terms of when they first came to the WWE) are Stone Cold and The Rock, who are indeed legends. There are also four classic managers that appear in the game, including Paul Bearer and Bobby Heenan. The ability to take control of these classic wrestlers is definitely a lot of fun and will fill any WWF/WWE fan with a ton of nostalgia.
Scratch That…Still Have Two Games from Gamefly

Ignore my last Gamefly-related post. My Gamefly plan drops back down to one game at a time on February 6, which is tomorrow. Today, I received an e-mail from them saying that they shipped my next game. So it looks like I’ll have WWE Legends of Wrestlemania for a couple of days before I have to send it back. I’m pretty sure you have ten days to return a game after you downgrade.
I’ve rented Legends of Wrestlemania in the past, but I wanted to rent it again to get psyched for WWE Allstars, which comes out at the end of March. Also, Legends of Wrestlemania is an easy Platinum, and could very well end up being my seventh. Only time will tell.
Starting to Get Cautiously Excited for WWE Allstars

When I first heard about THQ’s upcoming WWE Allstars game, I wasn’t interested. It appeared to be unrealistic with over-the-top exaggerations of the wrestlers. It immediately reminded me of WWE Legends, which wasn’t a horrible game, but I preferred the realism and seriousness of the Smackdown vs. Raw series. Also, the fact that it was being hyped as an “online” game was quite unattractive, given the horrible SvR servers that THQ currently has. However, yesterday THQ released a ton of information, screenshots, and videos about the game, and after seeing it in action, I have to admit that my curiosity is quite peaked.
Next Platinum Will Be Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

I got the platinum trophy for WWE SvR 2010, and I will soon do the same for 2011. I must admit, it is quite a challenge this year, since the most elusive trophy requires you to win an online Royal Rumble match, which is a pain. Last year’s edition wasn’t as challenging, and none of the trophies required you to play online matches.
I currently have three trophies left to go. I have to push someone off a ladder so they fall through a table, I have to smash someone into a table from the top rope, and I have to win a Royal Rumble match online. I got another very elusive one today, which required you to perform total of 1,004 signature and finisher moves combined. This technically isn’t too hard, and should come fairly quickly and naturally through regular play. However, the trophy is a bit mis-leading. First off, CAWs don’t count, and since I play mostly with them, this wasn’t going to happen naturally. Secondly, it only counts for one wrestler, not a combination of all wrestlers. Lastly, it has to take place in the same kind of match. It can be done in multiple gaming sessions, but it requires the same wrestler and the same match type. Due to these stipulations, I would never achieve this trophy naturally. Read More
First SvR 2011 Co-Op Storyline Almost Complete
Tagged as big bad bob, bigbadbob, caw, co-op, PlayStation 3, PS3, smackdown vs. raw 2011, svr 2011, tag team, wwe
With crazysteve coming to up to visit next weekend, I have been hard at work creating a story for us to play through in Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. The Story Creation mode is pretty sweet, as you can not only set up a bunch of matches for each week (for as long as you want), but you can also add in the crazy storylines to give it that hilarious wrestling feel. You want a car exploding? You can do that. You want some guy to get jumped by a bunch of others wielding chairs and brooms? You can do that. You want to have you and your best friend fight over some scantly-clad chick? Yes, you can do that too (perv).
The best part of their story creation mode this year is that I can make massive storylines that support up to six players at a time. Since it’s just Steve and I, my current story is a combination of different tag team matches. This is why the SvR series is the best co-op gaming series: I’m practically making my own game, personally customized and tailored to my friends and my own tastes. You can add in your own dialogue/smack talk, so there is plenty of room for inside jokes that will have your friends laughing it up, and to make it even better, they can take control of their own personal wrestler.
I’ll most definitely work on more as time goes on, but I am just polishing up this current one. Once we have played through it, I’ll write up another post detailing exactly what my friend and I experienced in our own custom WWE storyline! I don’t want to give away any details so I don’t ruin Steve’s surprise, but I will say that I created a short month-long story which encompasses four regular weeks and ends with a Pay Per View main event.

I got SvR 2011 in from Amazon last night, and after the first twenty four hours of ownership, I’d like to share my impressions of the game. This isn’t a true review, but more like a laundry list of my likes and dislikes, as well as plenty of my own personal pics, since I get tired of having to scour the interwebs for pics of the game.Though as a side note, since I took these pics from my TV with my camera, the quality is not 100% awesome, as the rest of the game actually looks. A second side note, as always, is that I do not watch WWE programming…I am simply a fan of the games, and view them as the best fighting and co-op games ever made.
My Likes
For me, the most important part of any WWE game is the ability to “create-a-wrestler”, which will henceforth be called CAWs. CAWs are the backbone of the SvR games, since this is where every fan of either WWE or just fighting games in general can come and create their own custom character. This year’s edition is no different, with plenty of customization options for you and your friends to create. Ever since owning WWF War Zone back in the 90s on my PS1, I have always made a “BigBadBob” character to represent myself, and this year is no different.

The UPS man just drove off into the sunset after leaving a brand spanking new copy of Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 on my doorstep. I’ve been itching to get my hands on this and start the onslaught of CAWs. I will definitely pop up some first impressions at some point tomorrow to go over what I think of some of the new features, and if they took away anything that I am missing.
The big question of course will be what my first match is gonna be. I’m thinking of sending the Undertaker into a Hell in a Cell against Kane…

For many gamers, this is where the gaming season really takes shape, as the months September through December are the prime months for developers to unleash the massively epic games they have been working on. This year is no exception, except for the fact that all the games I have been looking forward to for the year are out as of today, and I will be having most of them in my house by the end of the week. Having all these games at once is going to be torture as I’m torn between what I want to play.
First up is Fallout: New Vegas, which I have rented from Gamefly. Despite the freezing and other bugs/glitches, the game has been a very enjoyable experience. It has the same feel of Fallout 3, but with a new environment, although many of the interior buildings and NPC characters have been recycled from Fallout 3, and are just given new names. As of right now I’m about twenty five hours or so into the game and at level 21, but there is still plenty to do. I have no doubt that, at this rate, I will max out my character at level thirty way before the end of the game. Read More
Getting Pumped for Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

As many of you know, I am an avid fan of the THQ game series WWE: Smackdown vs. Raw, despite the fact that I am not a wrestling fan. This game actually makes me a hyprocrit, as I will openly criticize people who purchase each year’s version of Madden, while at the same time I purchase each new edition of SvR. So last month I traded in my copy of SvR 2010, along with some other games, and got enough credit from Amazon to pre-order 2011. I’ve been reading up a lot on it, and I’m getting pretty excited on some of the new things they have to offer.
The most interesting is this concept of a “Universe” mode. When turned on, the game will keep track of who fights who and all wins and losses in exhibition mode. Then, the game will use this information to form alliances and enemies which will be used to enhance the feel of the exhibition mode, and make it feel more like a wrestling match. For example, if you are fighting someone else, and beat them up, chances are they may attack you during your next exhibition match. It can be done on your way to the ring, they can get you in the middle of your match, or they can wait until the match is over before they strike, interrupting your victory celebration in the ring. At the same time, it also means that if you have a tag team partner who you fight alongside frequently, there is a chance they will come to help you out during your singles matches. While all this has been attempted in previous games, it was always a very random and iffy thing, but it sounds like they are concentrating on getting it right this time. My Recent Smackdown Escapade

I went to a taping of WWE’s Smackdown show last night (Tuesday, August 31) at the Times Union Center in Albany (home of AHL hockey!!!), and enjoyed myself quite a bit. The arena about a twelve minute drive from my apartment, tickets were only $25, and the Undertaker was going to be there…all aspects which made me want to go, despite the fact that I haven’t sat down and watched wrestling since the very early 2000′s. I must say that it is a heck of a lot more fun when you’re there as opposed to watching from home.
Note: I did not bring my camera, since I assumed they would be searching and Shell was not around to hide it in her pocketbook. Turns out that cameras are encouraged, just no video cams, so I could have brought it, and if I had known, there would have been a lot more pics. Instead all I have are a few crappy ones I took with my cell phone.
Let me talk about the overall feel in the arena first. It was hot, sweaty, and stinky…I have to say that the stench was far worse than anything I had to endure at PAX East. But the slight discomforts made up for actually being there, surrounding by raving fans who probably believe that the WWE is the same as UFC and other MMAs, in that the fights are real. There were kids, teens, and full-grown adults walking around sporting various WWE shirts, signs, and even belts (professional and makeshift.) To hear the crowd react to the wrestlers in the ring was also pretty cool, from everyone shouting for a fan-fave to kick out of a pin or submission to the crowd booing at the heel when he flaunted to the stands. You could hear everyone say “oooh!” with each chest chop and dropkick that was received. The other mind-blowing reaction was when a wrestler’s theme music hit, indicating they were on their way to the ring. The people got so worked up to see their fan favorites, and it really did make the experience a fun and memorable one. Read More
Getting Ready for Smackdown at the Times Union Center
Tagged as big bad bob, bigbadbob, kane, raw, smackdown, times union center, undertaker, wrestling, wwe
As I previously mentioned, I snagged tickets to go to my first WWE match for Smackdown tonight. However, I assumed it was going to be a shortened, un-televised match, so I didn’t expect much to happen. As big a fan of the Undertaker as I am, I doubted that he would win the title from Kane simply because the show was going to be un-televised.
However, as I was doing some random searches on the internet, I discovered an interesting fact…Smackdown, when televised on Friday nights, is not a live show. I have always known that Raw was, so I always assumed that Smackdown was also live. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Smackdown is generally filmed on Tuesday nights, but airs on Fridays. That means that the show I see tonight is the show that will air on Friday, meaning that it is possible for the Undertaker to win the title tonight.
The fact that I’m going to a show that will eventually be aired, and am able to watch it three days before the vast majority of the WWE fans, is pretty cool. So if you happen to be a WWE fan and want some nice spoilers, tune in to my blog tomorrow and I’ll give you the juiciest news of what went down.
Going to See my First WWE Match
Tagged as amazon, big bad bob, bigbadbob, kane, smackdown, svr 2011, times union center, undertaker, wrestling, wwe, wwf
I first got hooked on WWF wrestling back in the late 90s, after I was introduced to it by “The Legend”, who was obsessed with wresting so much that he would draw wrestlers all the time in art class. After I was hooked on the show, I really got hooked on the games. Despite the fact that I haven’t sat down and watched wrestling in close to ten years, I still continue to love the games, and buy the newest edition each year (side note: I have $62 in Amazon credit from traded in games, and I will be ordering SvR 2011.) So despite my love of wrestling when I was in high school, I never got to see a live match.
Yesterday I was driving to Middletown to visit my dad and some friends, and I had the radio on. Eventually one of the commercials was advertising that Smackdown was coming to the Times Union Center on Tuesday. I said to myself “that would be cool.” Then the commercial went on to say that tickets were available for $15. I said to myself, “wow, that’s pretty cheap, and the Times Union Center is pretty small, so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.” Then the commercial delivered the killing blow to me…it announced that the main event would be the Undertaker, challenging Kane for the Championship. This was what made me say “ZOMG I AM GOING TO THIS SHOW!” The Undertaker has forever been my wrestling hero, and to be able to see him live in a championship match sealed the deal, and I decided to go.
Thus on Tuesday, at 7:30pm, I will be attending my first wrestling match ever, either with a local friend or Shell. I have no idea who half the current wrestlers are, I have no clue as to what the current story lines are, but all I know is that I will sit through it all for a chance to see the Phenom challenge his brother for the Championship. I’m extremely psyched for this!

Second Platinum Trophy: WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010
Tagged as diva, mickie james, platinum, PlayStation 3, PS3, Sacred 2, smackdown vs raw 2010, sonics ultimate genesis collection, trophy, wwe
I really, REALLY thought that platinum #2 would come from Sacred 2. I was soooo close…just one trophy away from tasting the deliciousness of platinum. But I have thus far been foiled…my character is not strong enough to survive the final bosses, and I have unable to find another playing online who is playing on niobium difficulty. So my second platinum instead came from SvR 2010.
It was actually a pretty easy trophy to snag. It was similar to Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection in that the trophies were not a challenge, but were just time consuming. Luckily, none of the trophies required me to play the game online, which is plagued with abundant horrors such as spamming players and extreme lag.
I did enjoy playing through the game to snag these trophies. I had to play through all the story modes at least once, though it was annoying when I had to play through the Mickie James (diva) story twice because I missed one of the unlockables. It was a blast, and I will still continue to enjoy playing it for quite some time.
Now hopefully Sacred 2 will be #3 someday…

Wow…I didnt realize its been a week since I last posted something. Things have been somewhat busy, so I have not really had the time (nor the motivation) to blog up about it.
Thanksgiving went well. We went to my parents house, and about twelve of us total gathered for a nice turkey dinner. After Thanksgiving, I started up my holiday shopping. Shell and I ended up hitting the mall on Black Friday (though much later…not in the morning) and started shopping. We dont necessarily go for the deals, but just to get into the shopping mood. While I got some small gifts at the mall, I did some major purchases from the comfort of my own home on Friday. I ended up purchasing my sister and my parents gifts off of amazon, as well as some other little things. They continued to have good deals through Monday, and I ended up buying at least one thing each day. So on Monday I received three packages, on Tuesday I received another three, and tonight I received one. I should be receiving one more tomorrow and two more on Friday. I bet the UPS guy hates me right now. But thats what happens when you have Amazon Prime…you just buy things one at a time!!!
