Closing in on Two More Platinum Trophies

I’m getting close to unlocking two more Platinum trophies, but I’m not sure which will be hitting first.

In WWE All Stars, I’ve unlocked the vast majority of the trophies. The only ones remaining are the online ones (win 10 matches, win 25 matches, win 50 matches, and win 10 matches in a row) and two massive ones; one requiring me to defeat the entire roster with Triple H and one requiring me to not only defeat the entire roster but also clear all three Path of Champions with Ultimate Warrior. Once I snag these, I will be in Platinum paradise. Read More »

PSN Re-Releasing Sega Classics…With Trophies!

Yesterday (for some people), Sonic the Hedgehog, one of the most notable accomplishments from the Genesis era, was released on PSN. “Wait a minute, isn’t Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega’s Ultimate Genesis Collection game disc” you ask? It sure is, but with the PSN re-release of the game you will get two things you don’t get in the retail disc…full on trophy support as well as online leaderboards. And Sonic isn’t the only game getting this re-release treatment.

Every two weeks, a new old-school Sega game will be released, including the awesomely classic Streets of Rage 2 and Golden Axe II. These games will also have extra trophies and online leaderboards. Personally, I’m hoping that these two games will also receive the ability to play with others online…something that can’t be done on the Ultimate Genesis Collection disc. Read More »

Ninth Platinum Trophy: Borderlands

My ninth Platinum came quicker than I initially predicted. I had thought I had a ways to go, but it turns out I was actually closer to getting the Platinum than I realized. It turns out the only main trophy I needed was to reach level 50, so I spent the past few play sessions grinding my hunter, and today he reached level 50, nabbing me the trophy, which is called Borderlands Defender.

Even though I have the Platinum, I will definitely continue to play the game. Steve and I are still in the midst of an online co-op campaign, and I still have plenty of other trophies to get from the DLC…I only have the trophies from the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned so far.

The way things are looking, I don’t think I’ll be working on a Platinum for another game until I get WWE Allstars in at the end of the month. The other games I own that I have not already Platted yet are too much work for me, including Rock Band 2, Resistance 2, Uncharted 2, and Fallout: New Vegas. They all have some trophies that require too much effort or are just out of my league (especially with Rock Band.)

Eighth Platinum Trophy: WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

It’s been bugging me that  the only trophy I was missing for Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 was the Last Man Standing trophy, which you unlock after winning an online Royal Rumble match. This is extremely difficult. For starters, you actually have to find a match. After managing to get a match going, the next challenge is to keep it going. The final challenge is to actually win. I’ve tried many times, and most of the time I got booted out due to the other player disconnecting. I also lost twice against other players, once against the AI, and just this morning the game disconnected when I was the last player standing. Needless to say, it’s a tough trophy to get…unless you find someone in the same situation!

I went over to ps3trophies.com and posted up a plea for help. The site is dedicated to, you guessed it, PlayStation trophies! There are not only a ton of in-depth trophy guides to help you get them on your own, but the extremely active community is also very helpful in aiding other players in getting missing online trophies (something they call “trophy boosting.”) So I went to the SvR 2011 sub-forum and posted for help in the online Royal Rumble thread. I eventually received a friend invite from one of the guys on there, and he was also missing the RR online trophy. So we created a private match between the two of us and played two rounds of the Royal Rumble…he wanted me to win the first match, and then I let him win the second match. This worked out very good, since by working together we were able to eliminate every opponent almost the second they entered the ring. I was happy to finally get the Platinum, and had fun playing and talking to someone else. Read More »

Seventh Platinum Trophy: WWE Legends of WrestleMania

This was definitely the shortest Platinum trophy I have gotten. I had rented the game when it first came out, before I was as addicted to trophies as I am now. After playing it for awhile, I decided that I had had enough of it and sent it back, with only six trophies missing. Last week I had some downtime in my Gamefly queue, and I was itching to get some simple WWE action going to get me pumped up for Allstars, so I re-rented Legends of WrestleMania to get the Platinum. I received the game Thursday from Gamefly, and about six hours later I had all the trophies I was missing and a sweet new Platinum. One thing I have to say is that while some of my Platinums were either a lot of work (Sacred 2) or tedious (Lego Harry Potter), I really enjoyed spending time with Legends of WrestleMania to get the Plats.

As for my next Platinum, I am still only one gold trophy away from completing Smackdown vs. Raw 2011, so I think it’s a safe bet that that will be my next.

Finally Beat Sacred 2 in Co-Op

It took us almost two years, and 80+hours, but Steve and I finally got around to beating Sacred 2 together today. While it was probably my sixth time, it was his first time, and my first time in co-op. We spent a lot of time roaming, exploring, side questing, and grinding, and today it all paid off.

When we first started, he was a Shadow Warrior and I was a Inquisitor. As we got into the game, I realized that I did not like the Inquisitor too much. So on the side I began leveling up a High Elf, and once she was the same level as our previous characters, I began using her in co-op. So I spent about 20 hours of the game as an Inquisitor, and over 60 hours as the High Elf.

It took us such a long time due to a few reasons. The game wasn’t as fun to play on a SDTV, since it was hard to see. The online game was also very glitchy, and since he was the host, I was always freezing up, or our headsets would suddenly stop working, or the game would lag and I would die out of nowhere. A great example of this is that Steve’s game froze today during the ending cutscene, after we beat the final boss. Plus it was always hard to find a time when both of us could play.

So today ends our co-op quest for Sacred 2. Sadly, this is probably one of the last times I’ll touch the game, especially since I already got the Platinum for it. It was a really good multiplayer RPG, but had some technical flaws (and financial problems) that stopped it from being perfect. The next game on the agenda is Borderlands, which I’m looking forward to getting back into, and going through in co-op.

PSN Update 3.56 Ruins my Gaming Plans

It was 9:30. Shell was sleeping soundly on the couch, and I was ready to get my game on. I was hoping to dive into Two Worlds II some more, or meet up with Steve for some Sacred 2. Instead, when I went to sign in to PSN, it stated that I had to download the newest update, 3.56. I tried to ignore it, but I could not sign into PSN without this update.

So I clicked on the button to install the update, and I saw it was going very slow. I googled it from my Droid, and on the PlayStation Blog, tons of people were complaining that the update did indeed install slow, and would eventually abort after reporting an error message. After reading the tons of complaints I decided to cancel the update myself before receiving the error code.

So I can’t play online, and I can’t even watch Netflix!  I would love to play Two Worlds II, but I don’t know how not having this update will effect things, particularly the trophies (and you all know me for the trophy whore I am.) So I think I’ll just pop in something else, maybe some SvR 2011 or New Vegas. I’ll try again in the morning.

Thanks for costing me a sweet gaming night, Sony.

Edit:

I’m going to play it safe and just watch some Netflix on the 360…probably some Eureka. See what you did Sony? You made me turn to the arms of your competitor!

Sixth Platinum Trophy: Lego Harry Potter (FINALLY!)

I’m sure that some of you are familiar with the frustration I had with TellTale’s Lego Harry Potter game, in that I could not get the Platinum trophy I so justly deserved. For those not familiar, there were many glitches in the game, and the one I encountered stopped me from unlocking the last character in the game. This resulted me in getting a 99.9% completion for the game, and the last trophy I needed to get Platinum required me to complete the game 100%. After a frustrating time trying to get the character to unlock, I finally hung my head in defeat and sent the game back to Gamefly.

Then about a month ago, I heard rumor that TellTale had released a patch that fixed this. Actually, a couple of people either commented on my blog or messaged me on the PS3 telling me that patch 3.0 fixed several of the bugs in the game, including the “boy” glitch. I did some researching on gamefaqs.com, but that was inconclusive. Then I finally saw confirmation of this on ps3trophies.org. After seeing this, I decided to give the game a re-rent from Gamefly to see if I could finally receive my glorious Platinum trophy. Read More »

Next Platinum Will Be Smackdown vs. Raw 2011

I got the platinum trophy for WWE SvR 2010, and I will soon do the same for 2011. I must admit, it is quite a challenge this year, since the most elusive trophy requires you to win an online Royal Rumble match, which is a pain. Last year’s edition wasn’t as challenging, and none of the trophies required you to play online matches.

I currently have three trophies left to go. I have to push someone off a ladder so they fall through a table, I have to smash someone into a table from the top rope, and I have to win a Royal Rumble match online. I got another very elusive one today, which required you to perform total of 1,004 signature and finisher moves combined. This technically isn’t too hard, and should come fairly quickly and naturally through regular play. However, the trophy is a bit mis-leading. First off, CAWs don’t count, and since I play mostly with them, this wasn’t going to happen naturally. Secondly, it only counts for one wrestler, not a combination of all wrestlers. Lastly, it has to take place in the same kind of match. It can be done in multiple gaming sessions, but it requires the same wrestler and the same match type. Due to these stipulations, I would never achieve this trophy naturally. Read More »

Fifth Platinum Trophy: Fallout 3

It took me quite some time, and a few playthroughs, but today I finally received the Platinum Trophy in Fallout 3, making it my fifth one total (would have been my sixth if Lego Harry Potter hadn’t glitched out on me). I had to wait a bit since SOMEONE had my copy of Fallout 3 for over a year. However, when I first popped it back on I was shocked to see that I had a level 19 “evil” character, so I quickly went on a rampage long enough to hit level 20 and snag that trophy. I then started a new good character from scratch and went through the game again, making sure that at levels 8, 14, and 20 I was “neutral”, to snag those trophies, since I already had all the “good” trophies.

Along the way I picked up all the missing trophies, which included some side missions I had missed, doing some speech challenges, hacking some computers, and hunting down all the super mutant behemoths. I will admit that, in order to find everything I was missing, I did turn to the Fallout 3 Wiki for guidance. Mind you, even though I now have the Platinum trophy, I do not have all the trophies. As of right now I have 54% trophies for Fallout 3, due to the five DLC add-ons, which I am not ready to pick up now. I will wait it out a bit still, and maybe pick up one every now and then to space them out, simply because there are five of them and they are expensive, considering each add-on is $10.

Anywho, playing through the game again made me realize how much I missed exploring the Capital Wasteland. I had a heck of a lot of fun going through the game again, and I look forward to expanding it more with future DLC purchases.

360 Review: Mass Effect

Ahh, my first 360 game review. Playing games only on the PS3 until about  a week ago, I missed out on a lot of great RPGs designed by Bioware…the two that come to mind are Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect. I got my first taste of Bioware when I played through Dragon Age: Origins FOUR times (I did get a nice Platinum trophy for that one, too), and I loved it. So when I received my 360 last Thursday, I quickly popped Mass Effect onto the top of my Gamefly queue. I’ve had a few days to check it out, and so far I am totally loving it.

What Mass Effect does is that a fast-paced third person shooter and add to the gameplay possibilities by making it into an RPG. The story is basically about a human who is drafted into an intergalactic organization and must stop an alien from unleashing terror across the galaxy. First off, the main character, last name Shepard, can be a male or female, and there are a variety of different classes to choose from. Like an RPG, the classes are all distinct, ranging from warriors (the soldier, with automatic weaponry and heavy armor) to the “mage” characters, who are able to manipulate machines or create force fields. You can create a party of three out of seven characters (three human, including the main character, and four different alien species), but you can only directly control the main character. However, you are able to bring up a menu during combat to order your allies on which action to take. So it’s basically your typical fantasy RPG in a sci-fi environment, and the combination is pure awesome.

No Platinum Trophy for Lego Harry Potter due to Glitches

I’ve put in a few hours to Lego Harry Potter, and the game is currently 99.9% complete. I found 20/20 red bricks, 200/200 gold bricks, 96/96 house crest pieces and…166/167 character tokens. The only character I am missing is simply called “boy”, and, due to a glitch in the game, I am unable to unlock him.

This random boy is located in the Charms classroom, in front of a bookcase. You are supposed to go in front of the bookcase, cast the levitation spell to move the books around, and the boy’s token will appear. However, in my current game, the bookcase is inactive, meaning I cannot cast the spell on it to move the books around, meaning I cannot get the character, meaning I cannot get 100% complete, meaning I cannot get the platinum trophy. I have 90% of the trophies, and am only missing the 100% complete gold trophy and the platinum. I am pretty upset over this silly glitch, as it is the only thing standing between me and my sixth platinum.

I’m perusing the internet looking for a fix, but it seems that it has been a some-what common glitch, though not as common as the “dungeon of doom”, which I didn’t come across. I hope I find one soon so I can ship this piece of junk back to Gamefly.

UPDATE:

I FINALLY RECEIVED THE PLATINUM TROPHY THANKS TO UPDATE 3.0! CHECK OUT THE FULL STORY HERE

Just Hit Level 13 with PS3 Trophies

Yup, I’m moving up in the world as I reached level 13 in trophies, with a total of 1,161 as of right now. That’s pretty shibby, and it’s taken me almost two years to get there. That being said, I don’t see myself reaching level 14 anytime soon…at this stage in the game, it takes a crud more trophies to get to the next level.

1000 Trophies!!!

As of tonight, I have acquired 1,000 trophies across an abundance of PS3 games. I know it doesn’t really mean anything but bragging rights, so here you go. I have 1000 trophies. Haw haw!

They were not all fun and games to get, and while some of them were cheesy (pause the game for the first time, turn the game on), others were not so much (particularly getting that final Sacred 2 trophy, and Dr. Robotniks Lean Bean Machine from Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection), but all in all it is fun, and gives me some sense of accomplishment, especially my four platinum trophies.

PS3 First Impressions: Prince of Persia

prince-of-persia

I got Prince of Persia in from Gamefly today, and decided to leave God of War III alone tonight so that I could check it out. I had tried the game about a year ago (had actually earned 6% of the trophies playing for about an hour when Steve brought it over), and I remember liking it, so it’s been on my queue waiting for a shot. While the game looks and feels good, I still have some early complaints.

One of the first things I noticed is the awesome look of the game. The characters are done in cell shading (a la Borderlands) and are very crisp, clean, and look like they came out of an awesome comic book. So the game is all about navigating the world, obtaining energy orbs. To do so requires the Prince to be extremely acrobatic as he leaps between ledges, up walls, and across roofs. There is little combat, but that’s not my biggest complaint. The story is good, and the gameplay further develops the story as you go (by talking to your partner Elika), so the basics of the game I like.

PS3 Review: Aliens vs. Predator

avp2

As you may know, I had some real issues with the AVP demo that came out two weeks ago. While the demo proved the game had a good premise and some great ideas, complex controls and the fact that it was impossible to get a game going left me a bit concerned for the final product. Well, I received the disc from Gamefly on Thursday, and have since then given most of the different game modes a whirl. Unfortunately, the demo gave a very accurate pretense on how the finished game would be…a game with great ideas, but executed badly.

First off, the story/background to the game is virtually non-existent. The game takes place shortly after the events of Alien 3, but I would not have known that had I not read it somewhere online. There is no background story at all, and the cut scenes, while looking and sounding good, do little to explain what the heck is going on. Im going to take a stab at it and say that humans find some ancient Alien/Predator temple and start creating mutant Aliens. The Marines and Predators come in to put a stop to it, resulting in a three-way battle royale to be the last species standing.  There are three single player campaigns (Marine, Alien, Predator), and each three tell the same story through the respective species point of view. For example, as an Alien you are defending the hive from the invading factions, and as a Marine you are called in to clean up the mess. That being said, I’ll start this review up with the single player campaigns.

PS3 First Impressions: Bioshock 2

Yes, the long wait is over as Bioshock 2 was released upon the world today. I was really looking forward to it, as the first game really blew me away like no other game had done in such a long time. Also, because I was so interested in the game, I refused to watch trailers and read in-depth reviews since I wanted to wait and experience everything as fresh as possible. Im a little under two hours into it, and thus far I am pleased, and I can honestly say that Bioshock continues the trends started by the first game.

The game takes place ten years after the first, and you play as a Big Daddy. Thats all I will say about the story. Right off the bat, the controls and the look of Rapture itself take you back to the first game. If you played the first, you will feel right at home, as the game looks and plays just like its predecesor. If you never played the first one, then why the hell are you reading this? Go out, play the first one, then get back to me.

Fourth Platinum Trophy: Dragon Age: Origins

Today I snagged my fourth Platinum trophy, from Dragon Age: Origins. It definitely takes some time, and requires three playthroughs. You get a silver trophy for getting each character class (warrior, mage, and rogue) to level 20. My first playthrough was with the warrior, and at the end of the game I was level 20. My mage ended at level 21, and my rogue ended up at level 22. So you basically have to finish the game with each character to get each of those trophies.

Secondly, one of the trickier trophies to get is the Perfectionist trophy, which you receive for unlocking all the endings in the game. From reading online, Ive heard people say there are two, three, and four endings. I got the trophy for three different endings. Heres what I did:

  • Recruit Loghain, perform the dark ritual with Morrigan and main character
  • Kill Loghain, have Alistar sacrifice himself to kill the Archdemon
  • Kill Loghain, sacrifice self to kill the Archdemon

Almost Platinumed Dragon Age: Origins

dragonage

I just finished up my second playthrough of Dragon Age: Origins with my mage. My first playthrough was with a warrior. I have 93% of the trophies for the game. The only ones I am missing (which will be snagged on my third playthrough with a rogue) are:

  • Perfectionist- There are three endings…one where you sacrifice yourself, one where a friend sacrifices himself, and a third where you perform a ritual to avoid sacrificing
  • Sacrilegious- Have to side with a cult in one of the main missions
  • Traveler- Go to every location in the game. Apparently I keep missing someplace since I havent gotten this trophy yet, so I will be using an online guide during my next playthrough to ensure I get it
  • Shadow- I have to get my rogue character to level 20
  • Ultimate Reward- The Platinum Trophy

I enjoyed playing as the mage a lot more than the warrior. In my first two playthroughs I played a “nice guy”, as I was trying to get relationships with the characters for the trophies. This next playthrough, Im gonna play as a badass rogue who is gonna kill first and ask questions later, which will piss off my party but be fun.
