9 looked like an interesting movie when I first saw the trailer, but I never got around to seeing it in the theaters. I got it in from Netflix over the weekend, and Shell and I watch it tonight. An hour or so after watching it, and Im still a bit tossed up on it.

9 is about a cloth doll (who closely resembles a “sackboy” from LittleBigPlanet) who awakes in a lab in an apocalyptic wasteland. As he ventures out, he finds a desolate world where other dolls live, as well as machines. As the story progresses, it becomes a similar story to that of Terminator, in that a machine with a superior AI comes online and turns against humans, destroying them all. As the movie progresses, 9 leads the other dolls to revolt destroy the machine.

Sure, its meant to be a kids movie. Its made by Disney, has some young kids getting into trouble. My real interest in it is from the star: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I have loved pretty much every movie Johnson ever did (aside from Scorpion King). He made a big leap from wrestling to the movies, and he did a damn good job. He has proven to be one of the best actors today, and he is one of the few who dont piss me off. Like Hogan, he moved from the squared circle to the professional film circuit, but unlike Hulk he did a damn good job, and is not as corny. So I rent the movie for him.

The movie is a remake of an older movie, and based on a book. Basically, some kids are being hunted by federal agents because they are not kids, but aliens from another planet. Johnson’s character is a taxi driver who picks them up (not knowing they are aliens since they look like normal kids) and the adventure is born as he helps them evade capture. The point of it all is to get to Witch Mountain, where the kids spaceship is being held at a secret underground military base, so that they can blast off back to their home planet.

Weekend of Gaming Comes to a Close

So I had two successful gaming nights on Friday and Saturday. Steve and I got our game on and rocked out the Wii and PS3. On Friday we played together in person, then later that night played for a few more hours online. We played:

PS3:

  • Fat Princess
  • Gunstar Heroes (played twice so that each of us now have 100% complete trophies)
  • Mortal Kombat II
  • High Stakes Poker
  • Super Puzzler Fighter
  • 3 on 3 NHL Arcade

Wii:

  • Boom Blox Bash Party
  • House of the Dead: Overkill (played through and beat story mode)
  • Mario Kart Wii
  • Smarty Pants

While waiting for him to get off of work both days, I slacked around and beat the heat in my parents house by watching movies in the basement. I watched Terminator, Cloverfield, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, and Jackie Brown.

All in all it was a nice relaxing weekend, though I do miss the central air at my apartment. I was very happy to get my first 100% complete trophy, and am pretty close to finishing up 3 on 3 NHL (as far as trophies go).

Later this week I will be posting up at least three reviews, for Fat Princess, Battlefield 1943, and House of the Dead: Overkill. All three are aresome games.
