Finally, The PSN Has Come Back…Online

It’s been a tough twenty-three days, but the PSN returned (for the most part) yesterday. The online play, chat, friends list, and trophies are the important features that returned, and the only one missing is the PSN Store, which will hopefully get back into service soon (I just want to sync all my RB songs to RB3.) It’s been a long time coming and I’ve been itching to get online for two main reasons:

  • To play Dungeon Hunter Alliance online
  • To Platinum WWE All Stars

I’m currently nine online wins away from getting the Platinum in All Stars, and when I downloaded the new firmware and got the PS3 going again, I had a friend request from a guy who wanted to boost All Stars. Pretty soon this guy and I will be sitting back and basking in the glory of our new Platinum trophy! After I get All Stars out of the way, I’ll probably take a break and get some stuff down around the house, then I’ll see if I can’t get a game of Dungeon Hunter Alliance underway.

I missed being able to play online, and I’m so glad I can now. Welcome back, PSN!

The Quest for the Lego Harry Potter Platinum Continues…

I sent back Alan Wake and Mafia II on Wednesday, and I already have two new games on the way, which is pretty quick turnaround for Gamefly. Yesterday (Thursday) they shipped out Lego Harry Potter, and today they shipped out Rock Band 3, so I should have both soon.

So yes, between comments on my other post (about my troubles getting the Platinum trophy in Lego Harry Potter thanks to the stupid Boy Glitch) and researching online, there seems to be a patch out that fixes the issue I had with the game. If this is true, I should be able to pop LHP in the system, go to where I need to go, and should have the Platinum within moments.

I’m hoping it works, and either way I will definitely have an update, where I will either claim victory or curse out TellTale. Only time will tell.

Amazon’s Customer Service Pulls Through Again: Nets me a Free Game!

So as many of you know, last week I purchased both Borderlands GOTY and Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 from Amazon using a ton of my saved up game trade-in credits. What some of you may not know (including myself, initially), is that as of yesterday Amazon is running a promotion where you can buy two games and receive one free. I was heart-broken, as I had just purchased two games that Tuesday, and if I had only waited five more days I could have gotten a free game. I was sulking over this for quite some time, and suddenly a thought came to me…I should request a free game from Amazon. I knew that I had not purchased the games within the required timeframe, but I was hoping that their excellent customer service would once again save the day, and they would take pity upon this broken, unemployed gamer and give him a helping hand.

So last night I sit down at the computer and write up a nice little e-mail to Amazon, explaining the situation and how I would like an exception to be made for myself since I made the purchases so close to the starting date of the deal, and that if I had known the deal was upcoming I would have held off my purchases to make sure I could take advantage of it. Well, within an hour I had a reply, but it was not the reply I was hoping for. The customer service member who received my e-mail told me that in order to receive a free game, I would have to purchase two games, and sent me a link to their site where I could purchase two new games. Amazon Delivers Borderlands Lickity Split

I had some Amazon credit from previous trade ins, and I also had a $10 credit for pre-ordering WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. I had planned on ordering Borderlands GOTY edition (for the PS3) within a few days, since Amazon usually takes about 48 hours to credit the pre-order bonus. But I guess someone at Amazon is sure drinking their caffeinated beverage of choice or something, because I received Borderlands in under 24 hours of ordering it.

I got the e-mail yesterday afternoon informing me that my $10 pre-order bonus was applied to my account. After dinner last night, at around 6:00pm, I came into the computer room and purchased Borderlands with all my credits. Then at 7:00pm I got the e-mail saying that my order had shipped. I was pretty impressed by that one hour between processing the order and shipping it out. Still, since it was later last night, I didn’t expect to get the game until tomorrow.

But sure enough, at 5:10 this evening, the UPS man dropped off a package for me, and I knew it was Borderlands. So in under 24 hours Amazon had taken my order, processed it, shipped it, and delivered. That’s pretty impressive, and one of the many reasons I love doing my shopping through Amazon.

As a side note, I am now overwhelmed with games, having Fallout: New Vegas in from Gamefly, and now owning SvR 2011 and Borderlands. Needless to say I don’t see myself really wanting any games until Christmas, where I hope to get NHL 11 and Rock Band 3. Then I’ll be one happy pappy.

It’s Going to Be a Busy Week

For many gamers, this is where the gaming season really takes shape, as the months September through December are the prime months for developers to unleash the massively epic games they have been working on. This year is no exception, except for the fact that all the games I have been looking forward to for the year are out as of today, and I will be having most of them in my house by the end of the week. Having all these games at once is going to be torture as I’m torn between what I want to play.

First up is Fallout: New Vegas, which I have rented from Gamefly. Despite the freezing and other bugs/glitches, the game has been a very enjoyable experience. It has the same feel of Fallout 3, but with a new environment, although many of the interior buildings and NPC characters have been recycled from Fallout 3, and are just given new names. As of right now I’m about twenty five hours or so into the game and at level 21, but there is still plenty to do. I have no doubt that, at this rate, I will max out my character at level thirty way before the end of the game. Read More »

Rock Band 3 (and maybe Billy Joel) Will Have a Keyboard

So I downloaded and checked out the Green Day Rock Band demo today. After playing through the demo’s two songs, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Welcome to Paradise, there were a couple of ads about Green Day Rock Band, and then the last ad was the above image (except this one is from the 360 demo apparently).  As you can see, there is a icon now that appears to be that of a keyboard. Thus, it is correct to assume (as most of the internet community has done as well) that Rock Band 3 will support a new plastic instrument in the form of a keyboard.

This could be fun, since keyboards are one of those instruments that everyone plays as a child. Also, I can see the keyboard being integrated more functionally in it’s true essence as opposed to the guitar. Also, what songs will there be? Will we be getting a Billy Joel Rock Band? Only time will tell…
