Ive been meaning to watch this movie for a long time. Its been kicking around on my Netflix instant queue for a few months now, and I finally got around to watching it today. Its a pretty ridiculously awesome semi-zombie flick.

The basic premise of the movie is that a radioactive incident causes all of the dead humans to rise up from the grave and go on the hunt for human flesh. Enter the Zombie War: a period of time in which humans attempted to fight back. In the end, they built cities which were protected by a company called ZomCom. The problem was that the radiation is still present, so once a person dies, he or she will be a zombie soon afterwards. To combat this problem, ZomCom developed a special collar which controls zombies. So rather than killing the zombies within these gated communities, ZomCom turned them into manual laborers. Thus zombies fill in all kinds of jobs, from custodians to newspaper deliverers, and people own zombies to help with household chores, much as American plantation owners used to do with slaves.

Movie Review- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

There isnt really a point to reviewing the movie. If you are a fan of the books or the movies, its a must-see. If you have not seen or read any other part of the series, dont bother seeing it because you will be totally lost. But thats just common sense.

The movie follows the book to a degree, but I highly recommend reading the book first. The movie either skips quite a few things or does a poor job in explaining them. But then again, how can you cram all the stuff from the book into a 2 1/2 hour movie? The answer is, you cant. Which is why there are going to be eight movies from the seven books.

A lot of the story was missing from the movie, which I assume will be carried over into the next movie. The biggest thing is that the book went into a lot more detail not only on Tom Riddle (Voldemort), but Riddle’s family. The other thing missing was more Fenrir. He’s a freakin WEREWOLF for gosh sake, and the movie plays him off as simply another Death Eater wizard. I’ll say it again…hes not a wizard, he a WEREWOLF, and a bloody nasty one at that. He was totally pushed to the side in the movie, which I am most displeased with.

But the worst tragedy the movie did was seriously tone down the ending. In the book, there is a HUGE battle at Hogwarts. Death Eaters and the students are doing battle, people are dying, Fenrir is eating human flesh…its magnificent. But the movie…it just ends so horribly. Rather than a huge battle as part of the war, its more of an assassination plot, with the Death Eaters quickly making their way to #$%^ (no spoilers here) with no resistance, killing him, and then running away. So lame.

So like I said, if you’re a fan of the series, then see the movie. If you’re not, stop being a moron and check it out from the beginning. While it was originally a childrens book, the series takes on a serious, mature setting which can be enjoyed by adults as well.

The answer: very cool.
I remember the first time I saw the movie. I was in sixth grade at my junior high on Long Island, a year before my family moved. I had never heard of the movie, and when they showed it to the class one day, I asked myself “why is this movie about a ferris wheel?” I dont remember much of it from then, but I definitely grew to appreciate the film in my later years. Today was a lazy day for me, so what better movie when you feel like slacking off then Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

Movie Review- Coraline

When the movie first hit theaters, I was interested in it. Its art style reminded me of Burton’s work with Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. So I popped it on my Netflix queue, and we got it in pretty quick.

As I expected, the movie was odd, and kind of creepy. Its based on a children’s book by Neil Gaiman, although I did not know that since I had never read or heard of the book. Its follows the story of a young girl named Coraline, who moves along with her parents to a new home. Upon exploring the home, she finds a hidden door which leads her to some kind of other world, which is an odd alternate town of the one she is now living in.

I enjoy gangster movies. One of my all-time favorites is The Untouchables, with my man Sean Connery. Man, thats a great flick. So when I saw they made a new one based on John Dillinger, and starred Johnny Depp, I was totally sold.

The movie was pretty awesome. The movie had that classy pre-WWII feel to it, with guys in awesome trench coats, bowler hats, and tommy guns. I dont know much about Dillinger in real life, but if the movie was even remotely based on truth, then he was freakin’ awesome!

Movie Review- Push

We got Push in from Netflix and watched it last night. The best way for me to sum it up…it was the movie for the TV show Heroes.

Basically, it follows a group of people who have powers. The main character is a “pusher”, which means he has teleknesis (moves stuff with his mind). He meets up with a “watcher”, who sees the future, and together they head out to take down The Division, which is a government department that employs people with powers to track down others. The main purpose of Division is to find individuals with powers and then give them drugs to try to make their powers more…powerful, and thus create the ultimate soldier.

Movie Review- Transformers: Revenge of the Falle

We went to see Transformers 2 last night. It was somewhat decent, but it was also very annoying. I think this sums it up:the movie was an visually appealing action-packed film, but was ruined by a horrible story filled with pointless dialogue, confusing sequences, and plot holes.

The movie picks up where the last one left off, with Megatron dumped and broken in the middle of the ocean. The Autobots have joined forces with the U.S. military to track down and destroy the remaining Deceptacons. The movie soon gets out of control when it is revealed that Transformers have been living on Earth for milennia, and that The Fallen was soon to be ressurected and threaten the world. As is to be expected, Megatron is reactivated, and the Autobots and humans join forces to stop him and the Fallen. Like I said, it looks great.

Movie Review- The Hangover

A few weeks ago, Steve had seen The Hangover and insisted I did the same. His exact words were “You have to see this movie. This is how you’re bachelor party is going to be.” I hadn’t intended on seeing it initially, but after him and hearing all the other buzz about it, I decided to go.

Shell and I went today to see it. Since she was off today, we got to go to a matinee, and it only cost $7.25 a person, as opposed to the usual $10.50. Plus I got a free soda!

Anywho, as for the movie itself. It was hilarious. One of those really silly, stupid movies where you are laughing the entire time. It is a really great comedy about four guys who head to Vegas for a bachelor party, and wake up the next day with a no recollection of the nights events, and find the groom missing. Thus, the three remaining guys get into all sorts of hijinxs across Vegas as they follow clues from their previous night in search of their lost friend.

Its really, really great. Theres a lot of really stupid comedy in it, which I love. Much like Old School, if you want to see a bunch of guys party and act retarded, this is the movie for you. Personally, I highly recommend it.

Movie Review- Year One

I walked into the movie a little scared. I like Jack Black, but was disappointed with his recent performances, especially with “Be Kind, Rewind.” So I walked in not sure if I would be getting Jack Black at his best, or a lamer version. I was most pleased.

Year One stars Jack Black and Michael Cera as cavemen, who are kicked out of their tribe and explore the world to find civilizations. I was very shocked with all the biblical references, from the Tree of Knowledge to Cain and Able to Abraham attempting to sacrifice his son. But they were done in a funny, great way, and I really enjoyed the subtle humor. In fact, I enjoyed the movie as a whole.

Black and Cera were both hilarious. Each of them have a knack for comedy (Black is in-your-face and loud, while Cera is subtle, quiet, and meak), and made a very good comedic duo who foiled each other very well. The rest of the cast was good, as were the guest appearances/cameos.  It was a very funny, laugh out loud comedy. Many comedys recently have been funny for the first half, and then lose their hilarity in the story. Year One did not fall victim to this, and advanced the story while delivering a multitude of laughs.

If you’re a Jack Black fan, its a must see. If you like stupid, hilarious comedys, its a must see. If you like neither, then you should probably avoid it.
