I’m in need of a Halloween costume this year, and I’ve been trying to decide what to do. While thinking about what I want to be, I’ve been thinking back on what I’ve been, and decided to share some of my past costumes. Not all of these were Halloween costumes, but as you see I just love to put on stupid costumes. Unfortunately one of these missing pictures is

Yeah, I will admit that it has been awhile since I turned on the ol’ Wii. But once I picked up New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I had reason to go back to the white console. Mario Bros. Wii is genious, much like its DS counterpart, in that it brings back the simplicity of old-school Mario platformers with some new twists and gorgeous graphics to make a truly awesome and fun game.

The game’s story is nothing new, and even harkens back to the days of Super Mario 3…Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser’s kids (all the guys from Mario 3, along with Bowser Jr.), and it’s up to Mario and friends to save the day. I say “and friends” because one of the best features of Mario Bros. Wii is the addition of co-op…up to four players can take part in the game AT THE SAME TIME! So think old school Mario platformer, but with four buddies being able to play together (as Mario, Luigi, and two toads.) Now I’m not as big a fan of the inclusion of toads, and I think it would have been cooler if they threw in Wario and Waluigi, or didn’t have the Princess kidnapped so she could be a playable character. Also, if the characters all had unique abilities a la Mario 2, it would have been cool too. But in the end, I can’t complain about a game that allows four friends to go platforming together.

In Need of a Halloween Costume

So Shell and I decided that we wanted to have a Halloween party this year with some close friends. However, I have no idea what I want to be this year, and I really need some sweet ideas. Here’s what Ive been in the past (Mad Tom the Pirate, Silent Bob, Mario, and some kind of weird ALF-like thing…I think I called it Darth Alf):

So yeah, I will love any suggestions. I tend to prefer costumes that are recognizable, and which “fit” me physically (ie: Mario, Silent Bob, The Penguin, etc.) Any help would be hot.

Nintendo’s E3 Press Conference

I got home from class in time to catch the conference at 12pm, and was able to watch it off of G4. Heres a short rundown of the announced things that got me excited:

-Super Mario Bros. Wii announced. Looks like a classic side-scrolling Mario platformer, but includes up to four player co-op. Knowing how Nintendo is, it is probably only going to be local co-op, but my fingers are crossed that it will be online also.

-Super Mario Galaxy 2 announced. Going to be awesome. Looks just as good as the first one, but with the addition of Yoshi. Cant beat that.

-Wii Sports Resort/ Motion Plus. I was on the fence on this initially, but I will probably get one in the end. Wii Sports was simple and fun, and Sports Resort looks to be more of the same, which is a good thing. If only they would make a Star Wars lightsaber game that utilized the Motion Plus…

-Kingdom Hearts DS. Gonna be great. They tossed the card-based game that messed up the GBA Chain of Memories game, and looks like the classic PS2 gameplay. Im very excited for it.

-Wii Fit Plus. It seems like they fixed a lot of the issues I had with Wii Fit initially, mostly the fact that you can now string exercise routines together to make one continous workout. The having to go back and forth through the menu between exercises in the first one really cheesed me off.

And the weirdest announcement…

-The Wii Vitality Sensor. Looks like a pulse reader you put your finger into, and I guess it measures your pulse and other bodily things. Very, very weird.

Some good news, but no Zelda for the Wii, which was disappointing.

Here’s Joystiq’s transcripts of all the goodness that went down.

Its now 2:00 time for SONY!!!!

Top Ten Wii Games

So Ive been thinking, what are my top ten games? I think Ive got it pretty much figured out:

1. Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
2. Mario Kart Wii
3. Super Smash Bros Brawl
4. Mario Strikers Charged
5. Ghost Squad

6. Boom Blox

7. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

8. Wii Fit
9. Wii Sports

10. Wii Play

I think this is fairly accurate. A good portion is based on how much I play or played at the time. For example, I have not touched Zelda in over a year, but I put 55 hours into that bad boy (I think it was 55 or so). I really enjoy the Wii, despite all its flaws.

Wii- Mario Strikers Charged Review

I think its safe to say that Strikers my favorite game to play online. It was the first Wii game to have online play, and has remained the easiest one to connect and play with over the internet.

Strikers is a soccer game using characters from Super Mario Bros. You choose a team captain (a main character like Mario, Bowser, or Donkey Kong) and then three side kicks (such as Shy Guys, Hammer Bros, or Boo). You then run around the soccer field, throw power-ups and weapons around, and try to score a goal. Each character has their own special “super move” which has different effects.

As I already said, playing Strikers online is the best. Its sad to say that the first game to have WiFi playability is still the best. The other two main online games by Nintendo (Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros) all lack a good, solid WiFi setup. With Super Smash Bros, you can only play against someone who you have exchanged friend codes with, and with Mario Kart you can only race friends against other friends. So if you and a friend want to race, and none of your other friends are online, its going to be a 2-man race, which gets boring real fast.

So yeah, Strikers is my favorite game to play online. Its a lot of fun, and the controls are relatively easy to pick up on quickly. I for one highly recommend Strikers for playing on and offline.
