Joker is a Fan of Lost

I’ve been playing through Batman: Arkham City for the past few days and I’m really enjoying the game. Everything from the gameplay to the storyline to the crisp graphics are amazing. And then they go and throw in a little treat for Lost fans, and I couldn’t  believe it. I went online and sure enough someone else had found it and went through the trouble of putting it on the ol’ youtubes. It’s not really a spoiler, and it is story-related, so you won’t miss it if you’re currently playing through the game (unless you’re not listening carefully.)

The Series Premiere of Terra Nova

Terra Nova is Fox’s new series which uses dinosaurs to attract viewers. Basic premise is that the world gets messed up so humans begin to travel back in time to hope to give humanity a second shot at life. I did enjoy the two-hour series premiere and I will definitely be tuning in each week. So what exactly is the show about in more detail? Read on to find out more.

The series starts off in the year 2149, in a world that looks downright disgusting. It’s cloudy and dirty as heck, and the people praise the lord when they find an orange. Overpopulation is also an issue, and families can only have two children or face the consequences. The series centers around the Shannon family who’s father is imprisoned for hiding his family’s third child from the government. Their only chance for a decent quality of life now is to head to Terra Nova, which is a commune that is located in a prehistoric era. Apparently scientists discovered a tear in time and use this portal to travel back to an age in prehistory. They have determined that it leads to an alternate timeline, so they have no fear of the butterfly effect. The Shannon’s head to Terra Nova to help this newly-developing flourish as it’s a better quality of life than being in jail.

No Ordinary Family…A Nice Mixture of The Incredibles and Heroes

With the series finales of Lost and Heroes last season, I was left wondering if there was a new show that we would be able to get into. When I first heard about another super hero tv series in the guise of No Ordinary Family, I was a bit skeptical as it looked like it was a bit too family-driven and not necessarily super power driven. However, as chance had it, we turned the TV on at 8:00pm tonight, and happened to pass it right as it started, and I said “let’s watch it and see how it is.” After the premiere episode, I’m happy to say that I liked what I saw, and will be watching it regularly.

The show focuses on a family of four who suddenly receive super powers following a plane crash. Seeing how it is the first episode, not much else was revealed, but you were introduced to the family. The stay at home father who is a police sketch artist has super strength, can jump (or bound, as he puts it) and likes to catch bullets. The scientist mother has the ability to run really fast. The teenage daughter is a telepathic and can read the thoughts of everyone…including the backstabbing friends at school. Finally, the son can… apparently understand complex math problems? There are some other characters with powers introduced throughout the episode, hinting at the fact that their powers were not unique to the airplane accident, including a man who can teleport (very similarly to Nightcrawler) and someone who appears to have the power to control electricity.

After watching the first episode, I believe that it will be a promising series. The combination of people with powers along with a strong family unit reminds me of a merging of Heroes and the Incredibles. The show isn’t entirely serious like Heroes was, and has some of family-friendly feelings like the Incredibles. Seeing how I’m a fan of both, I’m pretty happy, and if you like super heroes and all the cool stuff they do, give the first episode a try and see what you think about it. As for me, I know what I’ll be watching every Tuesday night at 8:00 on ABC.

My Thoughts on Lost (obviously some spoilers)

So Lost has come and gone, and the series is finished. I remember first borrowing Cara’s DVDs and once I popped them in, I was hooked. Over the summer I watched seasons one and two within a week, and was ready for season three once the show came back that fall. The show did such a great job in creating deep, rich characters, and you couldn’t help but love or hate them.

After watching the finale, I’m at a loss. The show didn’t really explain everything and spell it out for you. What I got out of it so far is that they all died in the plane crash. The island was a limbo/purgatory type place where they were given a chance to redeem themselves in a way. Many of them overcame their flaws and became good people, while others did not. In the end, I’m pretty sure they were successful in whatever they were meant to accomplish there, and were allowed to move on to the afterlife (being Heaven.) Read More »

Now What Am I Going to Watch?!

There are currently three shows that I say I am a true fan of, and will religiously watch them regularly when each new episode airs weekly: Lost, Heroes, and America: The Story of Us. However, all three of the shows are soon to be gone…the series finale of Lost is this Sunday, Heroes has been cancelled, and America is only a mini-series, which will be ending within two weeks. So the big question is: what the hell am I going to watch on TV now? I have nothing to look forward to!!!

The end of Lost is going to be sad. It’s been a solid show the entire series, and I hate to see it go. However, it had to happen at some point. I’m really excited for Sunday to see how they end this awesome series. I’m skeptical as to what they will do, and am afraid that something they will reveal will be completely retarded and I will hate the writers for it. Somethings are better left unexplained, such as the Force (miticlorients?!) and immortals (Highlander II claimed that all the immortals are aliens!!!) So if it’s a good explanation, then give it here, but if it’s a bunch of crap, I would rather not watch it, thank you very much.

Tuesday Night = Uncharted 2 Co-op Night

The past couple of weeks, after Lost (which is 10pm), I have been meeting up with a couple of guys from co-optimus, and we have been playing Uncharted 2 online. For the last two-three weeks there have only three or six of us, so we broke into teams of three to play either the survival mode or the gold rush mode.

Last night started out with just three of us, and we played through one mode of survival. After that, four others joined us, and we started playing a variety of different team elimination matches. Unfortunately, all the true co-op modes only support up to three players, so with seven we had to abandon co-op for the greater good of everyone playing together.

uncharted-2-survival

All in all, Tuesdays prove to be a fun night where I get to play with some fun people. I have been having a blast playing Uncharted 2 online (which I haven’t been doing so much before I started playing with the crew), and it is a great game to play online with friends. The co-op modes are definitely best played with people who you know and can talk to, because communication is key.Whether you need to be saved from a “ninja attack” or you need to be warned of incoming chain gun-wielding enemies, communicating with the others is the only way to successfully survive the co-op modes.

Ahhhh, Tuesday. Not only is Lost on tomorrow night, but its also the release of Bioshock 2! Granted, I’ll have to wait until about 6pm when UPS usually shows up, but once Lost is over I guarantee I will be poppin the ol’ Bios in for a long night of exploring Rapture.

I will definitely post up my first impressions first thing tomorrow Wednesday morning.

So apparently last night was the second to last episode of the season, and it left off with plenty of loose ends. I was discussing it with Steve, and we both agreed that there is quite a lot of  plot to cover before the season ends. Im optimistic that the last episode will be a two-hour special, but I doubt it.

The whole back story of Noah’s past was pretty awesome. It explains quite a bit about who he is and why he does what he does. I was a bit stupified with his “arranged” marriage with Sandra, but everything else was cool.

I Heart Hulu

So Ive just begun checking out Hulu this week, and so far Im liking it. If you dont know, its a website where you can watch TV episodes and movies for free. There is no player or anything to download, as you can watch it right off the site. There are commercial breaks, but only 15-30 seconds long, which isnt too bad.

I like it because it is fast, has good quality, and is convenient. I remember having to watch missed episodes of Heroes or Lost on either NBC or ABCs websites, and it was a pain the the butt. You had to install a player onto your computer first, then you had to follow a confusing series of menus to find the option to play the show you want to watch, then you had to guess which was the most current episode (because they werent numbered or anything). Also, the quality sucked, and the videos often skipped, and it took forever to load up.

Hulu is not like that. You just search for what you want, and if its there it comes up. I just watched an episode of the Simpsons that I missed from a few weeks ago and it was great. The episodes are not only labeled with their title, but also the season and episode numbers, so you know where in the season it is. Good stuff all around. I could have used this a few years ago when I was in my first Oneonta apartment, and didnt have television at all.

I highly recommend checking it out. You can find your favorites that you missed, plus some new stuff that you probably would never watch.
