I was a huge fan of the first DeathSpank game, so when I heard a second one was following shortly behind, I was sold. The DeathSpank series was initially going to be episodic, but in the end they decided to pop the series into two different installments. What this means is that DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue is practically the same game as the first DeathSpank, with a few minor changes here and there.

The first DeathSpank game ends with DeathSpank recovering one of the Thongs of Virtue from an evil dude who was kidnapping orphans. The sequel continues this storyline as DeathSpank heads after the remaining Thongs of Virtue. There is an all-new world map to explore with new areas and environments. Most notably is the fact that the person who controls the Thong of Generosity is none other than Santa Claus, who is actually controlling the orc army from his mighty North Pole base.

PS3 First Impressions: Lost Planet 2

I received Lost Planet 2 in from Gamefly today, and actually got the chance to put a little over an hour into it. I’m still a little on the fence with it, but it is definitely too early to make a final verdict, especially since I haven’t actually gotten to play with anyone online yet. Still, here’s what I have seen from the campaign so far.

The campaign mode of the game is interesting. There is technically no “single player” mode that you just continue from the last save point. From the campaign menu, you can either jump into someone else’s campaign, or you can create your own campaign. If you start your own, you can start it at any point you wish, up to any point you have already unlocked in the game. The campaign mode supports up to four players, and they can be online buddies or AI. I played two campaigns…one with the AI and one with the online. Unfortunately, no one decided to join in my game, so I was basically getting my butt kicked around. That was one of the first annoying things…it’s hard to play online with random people. I can see it being a lot of fun with some friends who you know will be playing alongside with you, but if you’re hoping to have someone join your game, you could be in for a bumpy ride.

I just finished up the game and shipped it back to Gamefly today. All in all, it was a very solid game. The controls and gameplay were pretty sweet, and the “gangsta” theme made me laugh the whole game through.

So in the game, 50 Cent has a crystal-studded skull stolen from him, so he goes off to get it back. You play as 50 Cent, and you are always followed around by one of three partners. You choose who the partner is, but there is no gameplay difference, and each partner is another member of the G-Unit. Also, you can select a different partner each time you resume play. I went through all three, and the only difference is the voice acting. I dont know if its the same dialogue or not, but its not a big difference. The AI controlled partner is actually pretty good, and one of the better AI partners I have played with. He will actually attack and kill opponents while 50 ducks behind cover, so that he can either regen health or reload his guns.

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this game for awhile, and Gamefly finally delivered. The game is loosely based on the movie, but in many ways, is actually better. While the movie cut back on the violence and such, since it was a PG-13 movie and all, the game did nothing of the sort. It was Wolverine at his savage best- mutilating enemies in a wide variety of ways!

The game follows the basic plot of the movie, with Wolverine being tricked into returning to Stryker so that his regen ability can be used to power up Deadpool. The game goes back and forth across the time when Wolverine and the rest of the squad are in Africa looking for adamantium, and then it goes to Wolverine getting the adamantium skeleton and then going on a rampage looking for Sabertooth. Across the game you come across some bosses from the movie such as Sabertooth, Gambit, Deadpool, Blob, and Agent Zero (the guy with the accurate shot).

Book Review- Resistance: Gathering Storm

I just finished reading Resistance: Gathering Storm. I originally picked up the book because it tells the story of what happens between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, both video games for the PS3. I was really interested in this because the games themselves offer little transition.

For those not familiar with the storyline, Resistance takes place in the 1950s, in an alternate history in which Nazi Germany never emerged, and there was no WWII. Instead, in the 1940s, Russia suddenly goes into a cone of silence, and nothing gets in or out. Most people assume there is a power struggle going on or something. Then in the early 1950s, the truth becomes known as swarms of the alien race known as Chimera rampage across Russia and quickly overtake all of Europe. Soon, only Britain remains in the fight, and eventually the U.S. sends over some troops to try and help them push the invading Chimera back.
