With the start of the new year, I will once again take a brief look at my ten most popular blogs of the past year (thanks to the cool tools available through Google Analytics. I’m really curious to see which old blogs are still getting activity, and which new ones were strong enough to make their way into the top ten. Before I get into that, I just want to spout out some statistical info:

  • My site had 69,771 unique visitors over the past year
  • 9,536 of these visitors liked my blog so much that they became repeat visitors
  • 42,852 of these viewers found my blog off of a typical Google search, while 16,831 came across my site via StumbleUpon
  • 42,969 visitors were from the United States, 6,282 were from Canada and 5,536 were rocking from the UK
  • The average visitor spent 31 seconds looking at a particular post before leaving the site
  •  31,240 visitors used Firefox, 20,858 used Chrome, 11,540 used Internet Explorer and 8,665 used Safari (I wonder if next year will be the year that Safari beats IE)
  • Now on to the blogs!!!

A 21st Century Breakdown of Green Day’s American Idiot: The Meaning Behind the Album

When Green Day’s American Idiot album was released in 2004, I was instantly hooked. The album is quite the musical masterpiece, and you could really feel the passion the band put into the album. You also got the sense of an overall story tying all the songs together, and Billie Joe often confirmed this, but if you’re just listening to the album it’s impossible to see what Billie Joe was thinking in his head. With the creation of the American Idiot Broadway show, the story within the album was finally revealed in a visual setting, and the story (and the songs which made it up) did indeed make sense.

What I decided to do was give an brief breakdown of the American Idiot album, and use the plot from the Broadway show to explain the meaning within each song. The songs “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Homecoming” are divided on the album into five sections each, and my explanation will definitely help you understand why this is, as well as what all the songs mean separately. So let’s begin: Read More »

    My Birthday Celebration in NYC

Even though my birthday was Friday, the true celebration kicked off yesterday (Saturday) as Shell and I made our way down to NYC for a day of subway rides, loud music, BBQ, and booze. For my birthday, I decided that I wanted to go down and see the American Idiot Broadway show before it closed (it closes next week on the 24th.) I love Green Day, and I loved the American Idiot album, so I really wanted to see the story behind the album on stage, because it’s hard to imagine what was going through Armstrong’s head when he wrote it.

So we left Albany early on Saturday morning and drove down to Poughkeepsie, where we caught a train into Grand Central. From there, thanks to the Droid and Google Maps, we were able to navigate to 44th street where the St. James Theater was. Before the show we stopped at The Playwright Tavern for a quick bite to eat. After lunch we headed over to the theater and prepared to enjoy the show. Read More »

    Twenty-Nine, You’d Think I’d Know Better…

I had a pretty good day today…much better than my last birthday when I had to go to the dentist!

Today I got up early to get to work. Luckily work was a slow day today, and we were done with our job 1/2 hour early (that includes some slacking time in between), so we just hung around until 11. When I got off work I headed on over to Price Chopper to do the grocery shopping for the week. While I was there I picked up a some Boars Head roast beef and made an awesome sandwich when I got home.

After lunch I cleaned up around the house a little bit. Once everything was neat and tidy I plopped down on the couch and watched a ridiculous 80s movie called Time Bandits. I was surprised I had never watched it before, but it was definitely classic cheesiness. Once the movie was over I played a little WWE All Stars until Shell got home (and she even bought me a balloon.)

I’m Getting Too Old For This Shit!!!

Ever since my first concert back in high school (Blink-182, Green Day, New Found Glory, and Sugarcult), I have loved going to them just so I could see my favorite artists perform live. Back then it was such a simple experience: you went to your local Ticketmaster dealer (which for me was Sound Trax) and they went on their computer and got tickets. Then the internets came along, and I started buying my tickets directly from Ticketmaster. Then I was plagued with crappy seats (as it was easier for everybody to get tickets) and outrageous service charges, on top of already expensive ticket prices. Today dealing with Ticketmaster for anything just makes me sick!

But that’s not my biggest concern. No, instead I am more pissed off at the actual concerts these days. As I said, I go to concerts to enjoy the music. I have never gotten drunk or done drugs or anything else like that at a concert. Call me crazy, but I just like to be clear-headed when my favorite tunes are being played live. But it seems that I am the minority in this respect, and other concert-goers are pretty much out of control. Now I have no problem if someone is going to have a beer or two to wet their whistle…they are not going to get stupidly drunk off that. However, when I’m driving to a concert and I look over at the car next to me and see a bunch of topless guys drinking 40s in the middle of traffic, that pisses me off, and I wonder where in the hell the cops are at a time like this. It also gets me going when people are literally stumbling back to their cars upon leaving a concert, and getting behind the wheel. Oh, and don’t get me started about when I’m sitting in the middle of a concert and all of sudden some moron blows a cloud of smoke directly into my face! Read More »

Rock Band 3 (and maybe Billy Joel) Will Have a Keyboard

So I downloaded and checked out the Green Day Rock Band demo today. After playing through the demo’s two songs, Boulevard of Broken Dreams and Welcome to Paradise, there were a couple of ads about Green Day Rock Band, and then the last ad was the above image (except this one is from the 360 demo apparently).  As you can see, there is a icon now that appears to be that of a keyboard. Thus, it is correct to assume (as most of the internet community has done as well) that Rock Band 3 will support a new plastic instrument in the form of a keyboard.

This could be fun, since keyboards are one of those instruments that everyone plays as a child. Also, I can see the keyboard being integrated more functionally in it’s true essence as opposed to the guitar. Also, what songs will there be? Will we be getting a Billy Joel Rock Band? Only time will tell…

Green Day’s American Idiot Album a Broadway Show

Thats right, one of the greatest albums Ive ever listened to, Green Days American Idiot, is going to soon be opening up as a broadway show. The show features every song from the American Idiot album, as well as a few songs from 21th Century Breakdown. Its a pretty short show, clocking in at about an hour and a half with no intermission. Despite that, I still want to go see it. I think it would be cool to visually experience the American Idiot album.

Im thinking that Shell and I will be going at some point over the summer…

So Ive had my phone for a week now, and so far I am totally loving it. For one thing, I am no as bored as I used to be, because I can talk to Shell and Steve from my phone wherever I am, whether its at school during class breaks, while on line at some store, or while Im just in the living room playing PS3. Its quite nifty indeed.

Its already proven its worth. While in Phili, Shell got a blister on her foot. Thanks to my phone, we were able to determine how to take care of the blister right there. Shell was ready to pull the skin from the blister off, but when I looked it up online, it said that pulling the skin off could lead to infection. So I guess you could say that the Blackberry saved Shell’s foot.
