Gamestop Goodness

So if you remember correctly, I had won a $25 Gamestop giftcard from a marketing company for taking surveys online. When I came home from Gamestop on Tuesday with MUA2 in hand, I found the giftcard waiting for me. Thus, I had to make another trip to Gamestop!

I went tonight, and ended up snagging NHL ’09 for $20 and Motorstorm for $10. I was pretty happy, and thought it was a good deal. I had finally gotten NHL 2010 in from Gamefly today. I popped it in for about 10 minutes but hated it, and sent it back. I decided I would rather spend $20 on 09 than $60 on 2010.

The “Not so Exclusive” Juggernaut Character from Gamestop

So this whole thing really got me mad. I had pre-ordered MUA2 for the “exclusive” Juggernaut code. I generally hate pre-ordering, but when the benefit was this good, I had to.

Then last Thursday Juggernaut was available on PSN for a $1.99 DLC.

Now, maybe its just me, but an “exclusive” Juggernaut character is one that is only available through Gamestop, and not through PSN. Dont get me wrong, Im not mad that its on DLC. Im glad…I think that making something as beneficial as an additional character an exclusive offer is stupid.

Anyway, my point is that Gamestop is messed up for claiming it was going to be exclusive, when it clearly was not. I only pre-ordered (thus paying the MSRP of $59.99) to get this once-in-a-lifetime character. Had I known that PSN would offer it, even though it was not free, I would not have pre-ordered. I would have just got it through Gamefly, do the “keep it now” for $47.99, get my 10% discount for having the year membership, and then use my $5 game credit you get every three months.

Bottom line is that I could have got MUA2 and Juggernaut for about $45 or so in the end (getting the game from Gamefly and then buying Jugs from PSN), but instead was misled into paying $60.

For shame Gamestop, for shame.

I havent been this excited for a game release since Sacred 2, and Ive been counting down the days til Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 came out. As you know, I ended up pre-ordering my copy from Gamestop so that I could get their “exclusive” Juggernaut character…only to find out its not exclusive at all and I can buy it from PSN for $2. Whatever.

Anywho, Im looking forward to getting out of school, speeding to the mall and picking up my preorder, then heading home and loading it up. I already know I want to have Venom and Juggernaut on my team, but I dont know about the other two. Probably a flyer and a projectile-user. Ironman does fall into both those categories…maybe I’ll join his side first.

I will definitely post about my first impressions of the game tonight, with a full review to follow as I play more.

Just Got a $25 Gift Card to GameStop

So a few months ago, I got an e-mail from Gamestop asking me to join e-rewards.com. Basically the site will send me surveys about movies, ads, alcohol, etc., and as I take them I rack up points. Once I receive a certain amount of points I can redeem them for prizes. Well, it took a few months, but they kept giving me surveys, and tonight I finally got enough points to get the $25 Gamestop gift card.

According to the site, it may take up to 30 days to get here, which is nuts. But I guess I cant complain since I’ll get a free used game out of it. I’ll let you all know when I get it.

THANKS E-REWARDS!!!

Trade-In to Gamefly was a Success

I got the email yesterday. I shipped LittleBigPlanet off to Gamefly on Tuesday, and got credited for it Friday. The process was pretty enjoyable and hassle-free. The website design was great, and I easily found my game. The directions are not only displayed on screen, but print out when you print up a packing slip. It didnt take long at all for me to get my credit, which is going to be applied directly to my monthly services. It adds up to almost two months, which is a pretty good deal for a game I havent touched in forever.

So yeah, I highly recommend Gamefly. Sure, you dont get cash, but you get free game rentals, which is almost as good. It sure beats going to Gamestop and getting like $10 in credit for a game you paid $60 for. Amazon seems to have a good system also, but when I compared the prices, Gamefly offered $10 more for the same game. I had a great experience trading in to Gamefly, so if you want to dump some old games, go through there for sure.

First Trade-In to Gamefly

I had intended on selling my copy of LittleBigPlanet on ebay. However, when doing it I had forgotten to enter a reserve price, and of course ebay is gay and wont let you revise it to include one. Thus, I had no choice but to cancel it. My auction was only going for $3.75, and there were other auctions ending later that had higher bids.

I still wanted to get rid of the game. I didnt want to go to Gamestop because turning in one game is a rip off. Gamestop is only good if you’re selling at least six or more games back to them. Plus, Gamestop doesnt tell you what they will give you for the game…you have to march over to the store and ask in person. I went to amazon, and they were offering $15.25 for it. But in the end, Gamefly had the best value, at $25.

I had to sell the game now, because like I said in another post, the GOTY edition is coming out soon, after which this original version will be worth nothing. So I decided to take $25 in Gamefly credit over $15 in amazon credit. The good news is that the Gamefly credit can be used towards my subscription, so I’ll be able to stick around for another month or two.

So for the actual process, I went on their website and searched for the game. They then stated the price they would give me for it. After accepting the price, I had to enter the UPC for the game. I assume this is to ensure them that you own the original display box for the game, as both the box and instruction manual are required in order to get the trade in. After entering the UPC, the deal was finalized. It took me to a page where I printed out the packing slip and mailing slip. The packing slip confirms the game(s) being traded in and the price that Gamefly quoted it at. You also have ten days to get it to them, as after ten days they have the right to change the value of the game.

So I will be shipping out tomorrow. So far the transaction went smoothly. I will see how it goes when they get it and give me credit, though I do anticipate a pleasant experience.

I Gave in to Gamestop and Preordered Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 to get Juggernaut

Yup, its official. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 is a must-have for me. However, I was initially planning on waiting for Christmas to ask my parents or someone else to get it for me as a gift. I would have been able to wait a few extra months before partaking in the awesomest collection of Marvel heroes (and villains) ever assembled. However, I ended up going to Gamestop today and preordered the game. Why, you ask? One word…Juggernaut.

Gamestop wasnt so bad

So Im really lazy. Ive been wanting to sell a bunch of my old PS1 and PS2 games forever now. Im just too lazy to go on ebay and sell them. And I didnt want to trade them in at Gamestop because its a rip-off. But it kept bugging me. I had over 20 games just sitting there doing nothing. So eventually I gave in, and went to Gamestop. I had 9PS games, 10PS2 games, and 5 PS3 games I was trading in. I expected to get about $80-90 for  them. That wasnt too bad…it allowed me to trade in all my games I no longer played for a brand new game.

So I get there, and they dont take back PS1 games. So now Im like, “hmmm…I wonder how much I will get.” My game estimation took in the fact that I had some heavy PS1 hitters such as FFVII and FFTactics. So these are the games I traded in and what I got for them:

SOCOM- 13.87 (the best part is that its not even the full game…its only the online multiplayer version)
Conan- 7.50
Viking- 7.50
MGS4- 21
Simpsons- 12 (I had paid $9 for it new from Best Buy)
Simpsons Road Rage- 4.13
ESPN Hockey- .75
Lord of the Rings- Fellowship of the Ring- 1.13
NHL ’06- 1.05
Robin Hood- 1.13
The Thing- 1.13
Hunter Reckoning- 1.13
Street Fighter Anthology- 13.50
GTA 3- 3.37
XMen Legends- 1.87

SubTotal of 91.06

I then decided to spend 14.99 for the Edge Card and year subscription to Game Informer. This was good because it gave me 10% more trade credit on these games. Also, if you trade in six games or more, you get an extra 40% trade in value. So in the end,  I got 50% extra trade in value, which made the games worth $90. I thought this was a pretty good deal. Sure, some of my PS2 games went for a dollar, but what else am I going to do with them?!

So the grand total I got in store credit was  $76.07.

I spent 50 on Fallout 3 (it was $54.99 used, and I got an extra 10% off thanks to the Edge Card.) I put the rest as a down payment/ reserve on Sacred 2, which comes out in May.

All in all, it was a good experience. The trick is to get as much bonus credit as possible, by trading in games in bulk and having the Edge Card.
