I’m Running For Mayor…And I Need Your Help!

I’ve mentioned previously that I’m playing a browser-based game called Cyber Citizens, which uses Google Maps to create a city you can live and work in. I’ve been living in the city of Dallas for nine months, and the incumbent mayor is stepping down after his current term, which ends on the last day of November. He has handpicked me to be his successor, and has officially endorsed me for our political party as well as the city. Now I need your help!

If you want to help me become the Mayor of Dallas, you can do so by joining in on the fun. Using the referral code below, you can create a citizen in the city of Dallas. Once that’s done, head on over to the local courthouse and vote for BigBadBob. If you do happen to come along, message me in the game so I know who you are, and we can become friends, which will help increase your social stat.

Here’s that link, and remember…BigBadBob is counting on you!

My Favorite Free Droid Apps

So I’ve had my Motorola Droid for a few weeks now, and I have checked out the app market quite a bit to see what they had. I found a ton of apps, some that are great, some that are meh, and some that were downright awful. I just wanted to share some of my favorites, be they games or serve some other function.

Task Manager:

Only a few days into using my phone, I realized how quickly the battery died. I found out that a good chunk of it was caused by apps that continued to run in the background even though I closed them. So I found an app called Task Manager, and it basically just closes down these apps for you. It can do it on its own, but I tend to just go in there every now and then and manually do it. I have noticed a significant saving in my battery life now, and I’m glad I found this little wonder. This is a must-have!

c:geo:

This little beauty is a geocaching app that links directly to the official geocaching site. Instead of running the web browser and perusing the site, I can use this app to automatically find all nearby caches, and there are a couple of different navigation devices that will take you to the location (though they have proven to be inaccurate, so I would recommend still using a different GPS device.) I can also log my visit from the c:geo app, so it just saves a lot of time when you’re caching.

So this documentary is basically about two guys who compete for the high score in the arcade version of Donkey Kong. While I thought it would be interesting to see “professional” gamers go at it, I quickly realized the kind of people that play games professionally are vain, inconsiderate, arrogant, and all-around losers. Let me introduce the two main players in the game.

Above is the defending champion, Billy Mitchell. This mullet-toting weirdo has been known as one of the best gamers ever due to his high score in Donkey Kong. He enjoyed a simple life of selling hot sauce by day and being a gaming ambassador by night. However, this arrogrant prick is exposed as the jerk he is when a newcomer challenges his score.

A Night of Gaming with Shell

Well, it wasnt a full night of gaming, but there was over an hour of PS3 goodness going on in our house. I started nice and easy and let Shell check out the Peggle demo, which she enjoyed. I liked Peggle a lot also, so it looks like I’ll be snagging that in the near future.

After that, I popped in Buzz! Quiz World, and we played two online matches against four other players. It was my first time playing the game online, and I enjoyed it. However, we both did pretty badly. In the first round I managed to stay in fourth place, and after losing that, we decided to rematch. During this round, I ended up doing horrible, and was in last place for most of the game. That was sad. But I was glad to get some gaming in alongside Shell. Tomorrow we will be playing some Rock Band 2 and the Rock Band AC/DC Track Pack that I bought her for Christmas while we wait for the ball to drop and drink cheap wine.

PS3 Review: Rise of the Argonauts

I enjoy Greek mythology, so Rise of the Argonauts was a must-rent. I held off for awhile based on the bad reviews the game received, but in the end my curiosity got the best of me, and it was on my way. However, even though I love Greek mythology, the story was just too much, and it ruined the game.

Rise of the Argonauts is a adventure game with some hack-and-slash combat thrown in occasionally. You play as Jason, the fabled Greek hero, and along with Hercules and others you start on an adventure to bring your murdered wife back from the dead. The game starts out in your palace, as your wife is murdered. You then run about the castle defeating the enemies and being introduced to the combat controls of the game. Soon after, the real game begins. It is here that you will see that the game focuses very strongly on the story, and offers little else.

Guys Night In a Success

The weekend of gaming is over. Tomorrow starts preparations for Christmas with baking, wrapping, and planning. However, the week leading up to it was a blast as Steve and me got our game on. Here’s what was being played:

  • Sacred 2
  • Buzz! Quiz World
  • Borderlands
  • Monster Madness: Grave Danger
  • Revenge of the Wounded Dragon
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  • Bomberman Ultra
  • WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2010
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Reshelled
  • Prototype
  • Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues
  • Army of Two: Fortieth Day Demo
  • Guitar Hero: Van Halen Demo
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The three days were a huge success. Not only did we get our game on, but we got it on in style with an HDTV. I ran over to Wal-Mart and purchased a 37inch Vizio HDTV, and it was amazing. My biggest concern with standard definition was not the visual graphic, but the fact that I could not read text. With the HDTV, I could read EVERYTHING. For example, in Sacred 2 when you activate a buff, a little symbol appears under your character’s status. I assumed it was just a color indicating what kind of buff it was, but with the HDTV I could actually tell it was a picture representing the buff. Also, on standard def. it is impossible to read the answer options on Buzz! Quiz TV, but I had no problem in HD!

But alas, we cannot afford a HDTV, so I sadly returned it to Wal-Mart today. Looking at my PS3 now, I miss the HD. I knew it was better, but I had never personally experienced it before. But now that I had, I want an HDTV more than ever. It brought an amazing look to my PS3 games, and I was able to enjoy them more than I ever have. Someday soon I will save up some cash to purchase an HDTV to call my own…

I mentioned a few months ago that I received a $25 gift card from Gamestop for completing online surveys from a third party company. Well today I accumulated enough points for a second $25 gift card, which is on its way.

I received my last gift card in September, and used it to buy Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. So I will be getting this next one by the end of November. Thats like a $25 gift card every two months! I dont know what to get next, though my eye has been on Dragon Age:Origins and Buzz Quiz! TV.

I just want to thank Gamestop again for this awesome opportunity to get free games!!!

Ryan Reynolds = Nathan Drake for Uncharted Movie

So I was thinking this morning as I played the Uncharted 2 demo for a bit. If they make an Uncharted movie (which I think is actually in the works somewhere), who would play Nathan Drake. But as I thought about it, a person came into my mind, and I said “he has the look and the wit…I think he would be good.” Im talking about Ryan Reynolds. Now I was not a fan of his portrayal of Deadpool in the Wolverine movie (well, I liked his Wade character, but I didnt like what the movie did to Deadpool in the end, but thats not really Reynold’s fault), but I like him in general. So below is a pic of Nathan Drake and a pic of Ryan Reynolds. I think its good chemistry.

Yup, this would work well, and I would be one happy pappy.

I thought the pre-season started tonight, but it actually started last night. I was sad to see they lost 2-1, even though its just the pre-season. Ive missed hockey these past few months.

Their next game is tonight, against Jersey. It starts in a few minutes so I’ll be catching that.

Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is my First Platinum!

Yes, its official. As of this afternoon, I have achieved my first platinum trophy for my PS3. As you can see, the game was Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection. While Im glad I finally achieved this, it was a rough road.

Many of the trophies were time-consuming. I had to play each game for about a minute, then exit out and go on to the next one, to get a trophy. I had to go into each game and look at the original game and cartridge art to get a trophy. However, the toughest challenge for me was getting the Yatta! trophy, which is gotten by beating Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine, clearly the hardest game in the collection.

I spent well over an hour trying to beat the final level. Eventually I went online, and several people suggested that you play it on the hardest difficulty, making the pieces fall down faster, and just randomly place stuff and hope that the AI messes up. Well I probably did this for about 20 minutes, and eventually it happened. I started a new game, and was dropping my pieces, and I look over at the AI screen, and he has this huge stack going to the top. Suddenly, he hits the top, dies, and I win the game, and get my precious trophy! I literally beat him within ten seconds that round. It was great!

So the Genesis Collection is my first platinum trophy. I hope to get another one soon for Sacred 2, but otherwise I dont know about any others. My other games are either too challenging to get platinum in, or dont support trophies at all. We shall see.

Trade-In to Gamefly was a Success

I got the email yesterday. I shipped LittleBigPlanet off to Gamefly on Tuesday, and got credited for it Friday. The process was pretty enjoyable and hassle-free. The website design was great, and I easily found my game. The directions are not only displayed on screen, but print out when you print up a packing slip. It didnt take long at all for me to get my credit, which is going to be applied directly to my monthly services. It adds up to almost two months, which is a pretty good deal for a game I havent touched in forever.

So yeah, I highly recommend Gamefly. Sure, you dont get cash, but you get free game rentals, which is almost as good. It sure beats going to Gamestop and getting like $10 in credit for a game you paid $60 for. Amazon seems to have a good system also, but when I compared the prices, Gamefly offered $10 more for the same game. I had a great experience trading in to Gamefly, so if you want to dump some old games, go through there for sure.

Summer of Slacking Continues this Weekend

With Shell and her friend seeing AC/DC this weekend, I decided to head to my parents home to crash for the weekend and hang out with Steve. So I’ll be heading down tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday night.

My parents are not going to be around, so Im stuck dog-sitting. I’ll preoccupy myself with my PS3, DS, and some books and movies I’ll bring with me, for when Im not seeing Steve.

Should be a good weekend to hang out, get some gaming in, and chil.
