Preparing for the Garage Sale

With only a few weeks left living in New York before we move down to the Carolinas (we will be staying with Shell’s mom in South Carolina until we can line up a place of our own in North Carolina) we have been preparing for another garage sale at Shell’s dad’s house. We had a garage sale last summer, but it was more of a way for us to make some extra cash and get rid of stuff. Since it wasn’t as big a deal, I didn’t really put out too much of my “nerdy” stuff that’s been holed up in my old bedroom at my parent’s house. This time around, since we’re actually moving, I had more of a need to get rid of this stuff. It was a very hard thing to do, and for a brief moment I knew what those people on those “hoarder” shows were feeling.

The main problem was that I worked a lot as a kid,and had decent paying jobs as a kid. With all that extra cash, instead of saving it (which I really, REALLY wish I had) I spent it on all sorts of random crap that I didn’t need. My closet was full of clothes I bought and never wore…some of the shirts and jeans still had tags on them from the 90′s! But at least clothing was practical in some sense…the other stuff in the “closet of doom” was just ridiculous. I had a ton of nerdy board games, whether it was Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Simpsons, or warfare-related. They were games that I only played like once with friends or my mother (yup, she is quite the nerd and while I couldn’t get her to play video games, she was always willing for a game of Star Wars CCG or the Lord of the Rings boardgame) and were just sitting in that closet collecting dust. I had three plastic lightsabers with the light and sound, and while the Darth Maul one sounded like the lightsaber crystal was drained, the other two worked perfectly well. I also had some random hats, helmets, and masks in there, and as I’m sure will be much to Steve’s dismay, I am getting rid of the infamous “ALF” mask. I also threw in some old VHS tapes and books (mostly Stephen King and Robert Jordan) to get sold off. Read More »

Looks Like I’ll Be Rooting for Team Staal…and I’m Not Surprised

I don’t know why, but I’ve always liked Eric Staal, and I’ve never had a problem with the Hurricanes. So when I heard that Staal was one of the captains of this years new-fangled draft-style All-Star game, I had a feeling I’d be rooting for his team. Within just a few of his picks, I knew I would be cheering on the Red team come Sunday.

Staal drafted a pretty nifty team. My top favorites were:

  • Henrik Lundqvist (obviously)
  • Marc Staal (see the pic of him and brother Eric above)
  • Alexander Ovechkin
  • Zdeno Chara
  • Paul Stastny
  • Rick Nash

Big Changes to the NHL All-Star Game

I’m getting psyched for next weekend’s NHL All-Star weekend, not only for the big game and the competitions, but also for the reveal of Stan Lee’s “Guardians.” So just this morning I went over to the NHL’s site to see who made it into the All-Star game, and I met with a pretty shocking reveal. In the past, the NHL All-Star game was the Eastern Conference vs. the Western Conference. But I realized today that that is not the case anymore. This is how it will now work:

All the NHL players vote for two team captains.  These captains then draft the remaining players to be on their team and play alongside them at the All-Star game. So this year, rather than having players from the Western Conference take on the Eastern Conference, it will be “Team Staal” (Eric Staal of the Hurricanes) against “Team Lidstrom” (Nicklas Lidstrom of the Red Wings.) Now the pool of players that the All-Star captains can choose from comes from:

  • Top six players voted for by the fans
  • The NHL Operations Staff then chooses the remaining thirty-six players, as well as twelve rookies
  • Every team must be represented at least once Read More »

Being in Florida on my honeymoon didn’t stop me from catching most of Game Six of the Stanley Cup finals, which ended up being the final game. I was very happy to be able to watch the last game and the Cup presentation, and was also pleased that Chicago won. The team has a lot of great young talent, and it was great to see these guys get acknowledged finally. Guys like Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamos, and others kind of outshine the greats on this team, mainly Johnathan Toews and Patrick Kane. I was also happy to see Hossa finally hoist the Cup. He’s been after it for so long, and he has been to the finals a couple of times, but never won.

So this season is over. Next season is going to be the big one, and, as I already predicted, the Rangers will win it all, thanks to the “Call of Staal.”

This year was finally the year that Cindy Crosby’s super ego was put in check, as the Montreal Canadians routed the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 to advance to the final round of the playoffs before the Stanley Cup. To make things even more delicious, the Penguins lost at the Mellon Arena, so not only did Crosby get a huge reality check at home, but so did all those ridiculous Crosby fans. Oh yeah, and Crosby finished the seven game series against Montreal with ONLY ONE GOAL! I’m sure he’s kicking himself for that one. Mr. Hockey indeed.

Crosby really needed this…he needed to see that he is not a hockey god, and that he is not unstoppable, and that he is not the greatest player in the NHL. I love the fact that his team lost, not because I necessarily hate the team, but because I hate him, the captain of the team. Man, I would love to see him right now, lying in bed with the lights off, trying to hide from the truth that he couldn’t make it to the end of the playoffs.

Shocked at Habs Victory over Caps

I cannot believe that Washington was stopped in the first round of the playoffs, but Halak was extremely impressive the past few nights in goal for Montreal. Next to the Rangers, I would love to see the Caps go all the way to the finals. Also, I would have liked to have seen Ovechkin smack Crosby’s stupid ass around the ice. Now, that job falls to the Canadians, and I’m hoping they can take out Pittsburgh in the next round. Man, I would LOVE to see Crosby fall to Montreal, so he could cry his babyness all the way home!!!

So for the next week or two, I will be rooting for the Canadians to take out the Penguins. I guess you can say that after the Rangers, I will root for any team that plays against Pittsburgh…

Top Reasons Why I Hate “Cindy” Crosby

So I’ve never made it a secret that I hate Crosby, as I have complained about him in the past. However, after my last post about him winning the gold medal, I realized he never made my Shit List. Well, I just remedied that. So in writing that last post, I really had a blast finding awesome images on Crosby online, and I decided to devote this post to the various reasons I hate him. Mind you, some of these images will be repetitive from past posts, but most will be new.

  • He’s a baby- probably my most-used pic of him. I just love his stupid little face as he is probably whining because someone just called him Cindy, or because someone pushed him a little too hard, and he skinned his widdle knee

But here is a new pic of him being a baby:

Canada Wins 2010 Olympic Hockey Gold Medal…Crosby’s Massive Ego Grows

There were only 24 seconds remaining in the third period. Team Canada was in the lead by 2-1, and they were certain that victory had been achieved. Suddenly, to the shock of all, Zach Parise comes out and nets himself the tie-breaking goal, allowing the game to move into overtime. It was something out of a movie, with a team coming back with seconds to spare, and tying the game up so that there would be a chance to win in overtime. Unfortunately, this would have been a messed-up movie, because the evil antagonist prevailed. He’s the guy you love to hate, ugly, arrogant, egotistical, over-rated…it’s Baby Crosby. And he was the one who scored the game-winning goal for Canada, making him a national hero.

cryingcrosby

While I was obviously rooting for the U.S. team to win, I would not have been upset if it had been anyone else but Crosby who scored the winning goal. I have nothing against team Canada, and I will attest to the skills of all the players. It’s just that I hate Crosby, and the fact that he is the reason Canada won is why I am taking this so hard. Crosby didn’t need this to inflate his ego any more…I’m in shock that his head didn’t explode when they placed the gold medal around his ugly neck.

He’s been an over-rated player for years. Sure, he has some skills, but people who say he is “the best in the NHL” are sorely mistaken. Also, as the above picture states, he is a big baby. He is always complaining about how the other teams attack him. Of course they are…being the “superstar” that you are makes you a target. He’s also not beneath taking a ridiculously over-the-top fall and hamming it up just to get his team a measly two-minute power play. So take his “legend”, and add the fact that he was the youngest captain in the NHL, was the youngest captain to win a Stanley Cup, and now throw a gold medal into the mix, and you have yourself one hell of an egotistical moron. If the above doesn’t prove it, then this magazine article will:

And hey, if you don’t see it yet, at least this guy does:

crosby-douche

I congratulate Canada for a great game, and a job well done. It was a really good game, and both teams were in excellent form. It’s just a shame that Canada owes more to its precious Baby Crosby than it did before today…

Damn You Gamefly

Well, as I stated previously, I got the confirmation e-mail Tuesday morning at 11:00am that Ghostbusters had been shipped. It is now Thursday, and my mailbox was disappointingly devoid of any ghosts, or their fellow busters. It stinks! I have the entire day off tomorrow, and I cant do any busting.

So I say damn you Gamefly, damn you to the very heart of hell! While I love you, I hate how slow your service is. You claim to have this instant postal-checking system, where the post office scans my games so you know when I sent them back, yet it usually takes about four-five business days for me to hear that you received it. Then it takes three business days to ship a game to me. LUDICROUS!!!

Netflix usually has a day of processing time. For example, I sent back a DVD today. Tomorrow afternoon I will get an e-mail saying they received it, then another e-mail within an hour saying “we shipped your next movie”, and it will be in my mailbox on Saturday.

So whats the solution Gamefly? How can you make me a happy consumer? The answer is quite simple…be like Netflix, and kindly open a distribution center in Albany. If Netflix can do it, Im sure you can too. Either that, or I may very well have to move to Pittsburgh. But then again, I wouldnt want to be anywhere near that Crosby-infested area…

Stanley Cup Final Most-Watched Show

I just found an article which pretty much states that the Stanley Cup final (from last Friday night) was the most-watched show that night. Thats refreshing to hear. I really do wish hockey was more popular here in the U.S. Its such a pain in the ass to find anything NHL-related in stores, such as clothing and other stuff. And when you do find it, its expensive as heck. For example, my Rangers jersey is a plain blank jersey (no name or number on it), and it cost me something like $90. Now you can go to Wal-Mart and find MLB and NFL player jerseys (with the player’s name and number) for like $20-30. Plus there is always a sickening over-abundance of MLB and NFL t-shirts in stores. I wish I was a Yankees fan so that I could buy some new clothes…

Come on America. Hockey is the sport to watch. Its more exciting to watch hockey than to watch baseball and football. Plus hockey is the only sport where you can really “watch your buddy’s back” by being an enforcer. Fighting is expected and accepting in the NHL, as a way of keeping the other team in line. If a baseball player was to do that, he would miss like ten games and pay thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.

So come on, wake up and smell the ice. Hockey is far more entertaining than any other pro-sport in America, hands down.

The Stanley Cup Chumps

So Pittsburgh won the Cup. They beat Detroit in seven games. The hockey season is officially at an end, and I can now begin to re-root for the Rangers for the 2009-2010 season.

APTOPIX Stanley Cup Penguins Red Wings Hockey

It was a great game, no doubt. Detroit should have won, and they had a lot of great shots and scoring opportunities. But the reason the Pens won wasnt because Crosby is so awesome (which hes not), but because Fleury happened to be on fire last night. Ive seen it in many games, where for some reason, the goalie for that night is on fire, as if he is being guided by the Force, and is untouchable. Thats how Fleury was last night…unstoppable. Sad, but I give him credit. I dont give Crosby a shit, but I respect Fleury, and I’ll say he won it for the team.

So the Pens are the champs this year, and Crosby has yet another bout of air with which to inflate himself. I saw a commerical during the game, comparing Crosby to Mario Lemuix. Not for nothing, but I think its just a little too soon to be making that comparisson. Just ridiculous.
