Our Wedding

Shell and I got back from the hotel today. Right now Shell is getting her hair cut by her sister, so I had some time to pop on here and share the news.

So in case you’ve been living under a rock (and avoiding my blog and Facebook), Shell and I got married yesterday! It was a wonderful wedding, and all our planning worked out perfectly, as the day went off without a hitch. It was a wonderful mass, and I don’t think I ever cried so much on a single day (yes, I am a baby when it comes to sentimental stuff like this.)

The reception was beautiful. The people over at Birch Hill worked hard to provide us with a beautiful room and great food. The DJ did a great job, and the photographer, though aggressive, did what we paid him for, and I’m sure we will be enjoying tons of great photos from him.

So I’m now a married man. It feels good…it feels right. I love the fact that Shell and I are now officially together, and am ready to spend the rest of my life with her.

Thanks to all the friends and family who came to share our day with us. It was great to see the extended families from far away, as well as good friends who I rarely see. Now it’s off to Disney World for a nice two-week honeymoon!!!

And a special thanks to Steve, who really was the “best man” by breaking into my apartment while I was at the hotel one morning and placing a nice 40″ HDTV in my living room for Shell and me! I almost dropped her as I carried her into the apartment and saw the box there, beckoning to me!!!

I’m Getting Married Tomorrow!!!

Well, this is it. My last post before my wedding. After tomorrow, Shell and I will be a happily married couple. I’m looking forward to taking this huge step in my life, and sharing our love with all our friends and family who are traveling up here to experience it with us.

I’m still not feeling too nervous yet. I’m sure it will start kicking in today during the rehearsal, and especially tomorrow at the actual mass. But once that is over, I think I’ll be feeling pretty darned good, and I look forward to having a good time at the reception!

That being said, this will be my last post for a long time. I won’t be back from the honeymoon until almost the middle of June, but when I get a chance I’ll pop some pics up from the wedding and honeymoon.

Thanks to everyone for the support and well-wishes they have been giving me. See you all again in a couple of weeks!!!

One Week and Counting til the Big Day

I can’t believe that at this time next Saturday I will be in the midst of the rehearsal dinner, getting ready for my wedding on the following day. The time really did fly by, and all of a sudden it’s here. I’m not really nervous now, but I know I will be on the actual day. So this weekend is really our last time to breathe before it all starts.

I work until next Wednesday. On Thursday Shell’s family is coming in, and Friday will be hectic with doing all manner of last-minute things. Saturday we have one final meeting with the woman at the reception place, and then we run out for the rehearsal at the church, followed by the dinner. Afterwards I hope to get some time to hang out with people, and then before I know it I will be headed to bed (though I doubt I’ll get much sleep!)

I am really looking forward to the honeymoon. The longest vacation that we have ever taken together has been a three day one to Niagara Falls when we first started dating. Everything else since then has either been a quick one-night escape or a longer vacation with other family members. It will be nice to just relax for almost two weeks and not worry about anything, after worrying about everything for the past couple of months.

All in all, I look forward to taking the next step in my life. I consider myself extremely lucky to have found someone who really genuinely “gets me”, understands me, and shares my life with me on the level of soulmate. My only regret is the loss of game time I’ve had and will continue to have, but it’s a trade-off that I am more than willing to take.

Wedding Fast Approaching

The wedding is in pretty much a month, and things have been going crazy. We met with our priest last week to go over all the final details and what-not. We met up with the DJ today, who seems pretty cool. He promised plenty of inflatable guitars for all, so that will rock! The rsvp’s for the invitations are pretty much all in, with just a few stragglers we are waiting to hear from, but it looks like it’s going to be a pretty decent-sized party, though not as big as we anticipated.

This weekend is also gonna be jampacked with my bachelor party and Shell’s bachelorette party. Shell will be heading down to NYC with her bridesmaids and friends for a night on the town, and then crashing at my sister’s place. As for me…I don’t know. Apparently Steve has decided that it should be a surprise, so I am in the dark as to what he has planned for the weekend. I am driving down to his place Friday night, and then Saturday we are off to the mysterious destination of my bachelor party. I’m looking forward to it, and seeing some friends and family, though I don’t know who exactly is coming (aside from Steve and my bro-in-law Nick).

No need to worry…when I eventually return on Sunday, I will post up (non-incriminating) pics of the weekend festivities. After this weekend, we are into May, and that’s the WEDDING MONTH!!! It’s coming up pretty fast, and I’m excited…and probably a little nervous…but more excited than anything.

How I Spent my Valentine’s Day

Heres what Shell and I did for Valentine’s Day!

  • Woke up. I made an egg breakfast
  • Exchanged chocolate (she got Hershey Pot o’ Gold, I got Russle Stovers)
  • Showered and got dressed
  • Went to church
  • After mass, met with the church director to begin the interview process for our wedding
  • Came home and had lunch
  • Watched “Pretty in Pink” (I had never watched it before…I kept thinking it was Sixteen Candles)
  • Hung out on the couch and watched TV
  • Went to Paolo Lombardi’s Ristorante (fancy Italian place) for dinner
  • Came home and watched “My Best Friend’s Girl” while eating chocolate-covered strawberries and spumoni
  • Went to bed

So yeah, we had a pretty busy day. Well, not necessarily busy, but we had stuff going on all day. It was a fun Valentine’s Day that I spent with my sweetie!

Holiday Cooking Complete

After returning from church this morning, the rest of the day was devoted to cooking. Shell finished up making her Christmas cookies. I think she made six different kinds, and I made two myself- white chocolate macadamia and some red and green sugar cookies. Shell is giving out some cookie tins to her co-workers, and the rest of the cookies are for our parents. They all came out pretty tasty.

Also, Shell took the time to make one of the best family recipes…the meat pie! My mom’s meat pie is one of the family favorites, and my second favorite (trumped only by her chicken cacciatore). Its a delicious puff pastery-type thing that is filled with Italian meats and cheeses, and is simply awesome! Its not very often that my mom makes it, so I dont get to enjoy it too often. However, now that the recipe is here, maybe I will get to munch on more.

Surviving Precana

Yesterday Shell and I had our precana. For those of you not familiar with the term, its basically a requirement that the church has on newly-engaged couples. In our case, we had to attend this “workshop” in order to get married at the church. Its basically where a bunch of engaged couples come together and discuss love, marriage, relationships, and all that stuff in terms of spirituality. Some of these things are actually full-on weekend retreats, but ours was only one day, from 8:30am-4:30pm. Needless to say, it was not how I envisioned my Saturday to be, so I was not exactly looking forward to it.

So we get to the location, and the place is pretty packed. I would say there were at least twenty couples with us, crammed into this small room with very uncomfortable seats. The precana was led by an older couple (prob. in their 50s or possible even early 60s). When we came in, they gave us a workbook that we would use for the remainder of the day and a nametag. I already wasnt looking forward to getting in front of all these people and talking about relationships and all this stuff. I didnt think it was going to be a good day.

It turned out not being all that bad.

Weekend at the Dutchess County Fair

We had another relaxing weekend this past week. Well, maybe not relaxing, but at least it was at home, in the area. On Saturday we got up and went to the gym. Afterwards we went out to the mall and did some shoppings for a bunch of stuff, including wedding invitation supplies. Then we came home, cooked dinner, and then just hung out the rest of the night.

Then on Sunday we went to church (finally). After church, we came home for a bit, then headed out to the Dutchess County Fair. We left the house around 2pm. We didnt end up parking until about 4:30 due to a heck of a lot of traffic outside the fair getting in. By the time we got in we were starving, so had an early dinner. Shell had a cheese steak, and I had a pork rib sandwich, which was lame. My pork sandwhich was like the one you would get in high school…small and thin. I was still hungry after that lame meal so I found a perogi station and got some. They were tasty, and stuffed with cheese, potato, and kelbasia. We then walked around and took in the sights and whatnot. Along the way I got gyped off by paying $6 for a lemonade from some random stand, while the other stands sold it for $4-5, depending on the stand. Shell also got a frozen banana that was dipped in chocolate and nuts.

There was some kind of mini-zoo there, which was cool. It starts off kind of lame with just some reptiles and birds. Then they brought out the big guns. First was an albino kangaroo. It was the weirdest thing I had ever seen. It was clearly a kangaroo, but it was all white, and had red eyes. Very odd. They also had two tiny tiger cubs, who were in the middle of eating their dinner of raw steaks. They were very cute. There were also some other interesting animals like fox (I dont get to see them too often…they are so tricky), bobcat, and lynx.

We then walked around some of the shops and demos and stuff, still taking in the sites. When we were done, we grabbed a bag of zeppili on the way out, which was very tasty. All in all, it was a good time. The Dutchess County Fair is the best one in our area, and we always have fun going.
