When Green Day’s American Idiot album was released in 2004, I was instantly hooked. The album is quite the musical masterpiece, and you could really feel the passion the band put into the album. You also got the sense of an overall story tying all the songs together, and Billie Joe often confirmed this, but if you’re just listening to the album it’s impossible to see what Billie Joe was thinking in his head. With the creation of the American Idiot Broadway show, the story within the album was finally revealed in a visual setting, and the story (and the songs which made it up) did indeed make sense.
What I decided to do was give an brief breakdown of the American Idiot album, and use the plot from the Broadway show to explain the meaning within each song. The songs “Jesus of Suburbia” and “Homecoming” are divided on the album into five sections each, and my explanation will definitely help you understand why this is, as well as what all the songs mean separately. So let’s begin: Read More
I think I have some kind of crazy, compulsive problem where I have this “need” to have a media collection…I used to buy tons of games, DVDs, CDs, and books just to say “look at my collection.” Tons of CDs were never listen to, even more books were never read, and some DVDs still sit on my case in their original wrapping, having never been watched. Over the past year or two…actually since moving into my current apartment, I have severely cut down on my spending, but there is still one bad habit I maintain…buying single player games.
I really came to this realization this morning. Over the weekend I had beaten Trine, Scott Pilgrim, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue, so this morning I needed something to play while waiting for Shell to get ready. I was lying on the floor, looking at my game collection, and I realized that I had a lot of single player games that I will probably never play again. Games like BioShock, God of War, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, and Dragon Age: Origins were all great, wonderful, classic games, but I would probably never play them again; especially since I always have something new to play through Gamefly. So I sat there, and I said “you know Rob, you paid $60 for these games when they came out, you spent less than a month playing through them, and once you beat it, you move on to the next game.” I realized how stupid it was for me to buy these games that I would never play again. I have Gamefly…I can rent any game whenever I want, and usually get it the week it releases if I plan my queue right. It’s so silly for me to be buying these single player games! Read More
Being the huge Gin Blossoms fan that I am, I had the new CD, No Chocolate Cake, pre-ordered so that it arrived today via Amazon. I am currently listening to it on the 360 while I cook dinner, and will be posting up a little ol’ review of the album once I gave it a few listens to get a good feel for it. Still, I’m expecting good things since their last release, Major Lodge Victory, was pretty solid.
I’ve been pretty busy the past two days, and that will only continue to the weekend. Yesterday I went down to my parent’s to help my Dad stack up some winter wood (ended up being two cords worth…which averages between 2000-4000lbs a cord depending on the wood. I also went shopping with my Dad and helped him pick out a new HDTV, and then went back to their house to install it. I also lugged some loot from our apartment and my parents house to Shell’s Dads house to prepare for tomorrow’s garage sale.
Today was a lot more prepping for the trip down to Shell’s Dads house. I also ended up doing the weekly grocery shopping this morning since we will be gone all weekend.
And tomorrow is the big day. We’ve been planning this garage sale for awhile now, and I’m looking forward to finally getting it over with. We have tons of junk to unload on whoever wants it, including plenty of DVDs, CDs, and even some of my old video games, not to mention a crud load of clothing and other stuff. It runs from 8-4, so by the end of the day I know I’m gonna be exhausted. We’re staying over her Dad’s tomorrow night also, and then heading home later in the day on Sunday.
All I know is that I miss my games!!!!!!!!
I visiting my friend from High School last week, and we were reminiscing about music and stuff. Eventually we started talking about how, as you grow older, some people tend to stop listening to new bands, and stick to the stuff they are used to. I don’t know how accurate that is, but for me, that is true. I don’t listen to the radio, so I do not hear any new up and coming bands. Instead, I use my iPod, and it just happens to be filled with only older bands. Anywho, what I’m trying to say is that due to this, I do not buy many CDs these days, and will only do so if a band I have liked for a long time comes out with a new album. Thus, when Alkaline Trio’s new album “This Addiction” released this week, I had it pre-ordered, and it got delivered today.
Alkaline Trio are an odd band. I can’t really put my finger on why I enjoy listening to their music…I just do. Their music was always a little “darker”…a little out there. Or at least that was the case until their previous album “Agony and Irony”, in which their music took a lighter side, to a degree. It was not as aggressive, and I enjoyed how the band matured to where they were. Their new album “This Addiction” continues this new phase in the band’s life.
