Requiem for the Rangers 2013-2014 Season

2014 NHL Stanley Cup Final - Game Five

Let me start off by saying this…this is the second post I’ve written about this topic. I was up early this morning (obviously didn’t get a good night’s sleep) and began banging out this ridiculously long-winded post about the ups and downs of the entire Rangers post season, and it was just too much.

In case you haven’t heard or figured out from the title of this post, the Rangers lost Game Five of the Stanley Cup Finals to the LA Kings in double over-time, with a final score of 3-2. I want to keep it classy, so first thing I’ll say is congrats to the Kings and Quick, who was such a huge force for them in their playoff run. I have huge respect for Quick, and see him as being in the same league as Lundqvist. His goaltending in Game Three was phenomenal, and he is the sole reason the Rangers lost that game. They played hard, had a lot of good opportunities, but he was in the zone and denied everything the Rangers threw at him. That being said, I wasn’t happy about how far down the receiving line he was before being offered The Cup last night. Goaltenders are what define a team. Just look at Washington. You have Ovechkin, who had the most goals last season (51), yet the Caps didn’t even make the playoffs. You need a solid goalie to succeed, and I didn’t like how the Kings snubbed Quick.

Improving the Garage

When we first moved into the new house in October, the detached garage was a low priority for me. We weren’t planning on using it for cars since it was inconvenient compared to parking in front, and I didn’t have any “manly” stuff to put in there, so it was just a place to toss boxes and other junk that had no place anywhere else yet. That all changed when my parents and father-in-law came down last month and help me change the garage into a second mancave.

Let’s start with the “before” pictures:

Tracked Down my First LEGO Simpsons Minifigs

Gotta catch 'em all

Gotta catch ‘em all

In celebration of The Simpsons 550th episode, they teamed up with LEGO to produce an episode centered around the popular building block toy. It was a solid episode, and definitely worthy of a 550th milestone, but what was even better were the products that came out as a result of the episode. LEGO released a set of minifigs in blind boxes, and they recently went on sale to promote both franchises. Amazon has them available for $6 a pop, but I wanted to be able to find these blind boxes in brick and mortar stores so that I could try and figure out what I was getting. I wandered into my local Target and finally found them as an endcap attached to the Nerf aisle…that’s right, they were not in the LEGO section but hanging out with foam weaponry.

I tried feeling the bags to determine what heads were inside, and also tried deciphering the bump codes to tell which characters were housed inside. I was hoping to get Maggie, Burns and Ralph for myself, and a Lisa for Shell. After spending fifteen minutes in the aisle groping and studying the bags, I grabbed four that I thought were what I was looking for. I rushed home to check out my score.

What could be inside???

I carefully got my scissors out and opened the first bag:

They’re no longer mint condition! Oh the horror!

April Loot Crate Unboxing: Dragons!!!

loot crate logo

I’m falling in love with this logo

I enjoyed my first experience with Loot Crate to a point. I liked the concept of getting a themed package of swag delivered to my house, and I loved the quick service. However, I was not a fan of the idea of getting a bunch of loot from something I don’t care about, as the last Loot Crate I did was based on Bravest Warriors, something I knew nothing about.

But when I saw that April’s theme was “dragons”, with the promise of swag based on the Game of Thrones HBO series as well as Elder Scrolls, it was impossible to pass up. I found another code online which gave me a chunk off the total and I re-subscribed so that I could get my dragon on. While I was a bit let down by the swag from the “Warriors” Crate, I was not disappointed in the least by the “Dragon” Crate.

Simpson’s Lego Minifigures Revealed

lego simpsons minifigure logo

A dream come true…

Back in January I was talking about the Simpson’s dream house that was going to be available from Lego. At $200 it’s quite steep, but at the time Lego had promised something in the way of smaller sets that would be more wallet friendly. The wait is over, and Lego has released pictures of the new minifigures.

Unfortunately, it’s not what I was hoping for. I was under the assumption they were going to make small sets, like maybe Otto’s bus or Bart’s classroom. Instead, the minifigures will consist of a set of sixteen individual characters, and will run about $4.00 a figure. Here’s the group photo:
