First and foremost, the DC Universe is not exactly my forte…I am much more familiar with the world of Marvel comics. However, I think that the DC canon makes a better backdrop for a game than Marvel, and I am enjoying my time exploring it within the beta, thanks to good ol’ PlayStation Plus.
The game begins with a very decent “movie” depicting many key DC heroes and villains battling it out. Eventually, a third party enters the fray and defeats both heroes and villains. Lex Luthor then travels back in time to warn the heroes what will happen, and that the world needs to be ready for this invasion when it comes. So Luthor releases some nanobot-thingys into the atmosphere, and when regular people make contact with them, they develop super powers. Thus, this is the basic origin of your character, who will then be mentored by one of the six main heroes or villains. Read More »

Its true, its true. One of the most popular genres on the market today are one of my least favorite. Not because they are not fun, but because I suck so badly at them. I love playing the single player campaigns on FPS’. I enjoyed shooting my way through the Medal of Honor series on the PS1 and PS2, and I rocked through the likes of Resistance, Bioshock, and Wolfenstein on my PS3.
However, my qualm is not with the single player campaigns. My problem is with multiplayer games, which is the meat of a FPS. I am really horrible at them. When I play against others online, Im lucky if I die less than ten times in a round and get one kill myself. I dont know what it is, but I dont have the proper training/skill to successfully play against others online. What got me thinking of all this was that I was playing the MAG Beta tonight, and I did so horribly. I seriously died eight times, and was lucky to get one kill.
The only FPS online game I ever really enjoyed was Resistance 2, but that was only the co-op missions, since you and a bunch of friends got together to take on the AI. The PS3 needs more FPS like that, where you can play through the campaign mode online, taking on the AI with other actual players. I really need to play these games more and get more experience…

So as I already mentioned previously, I was able to get into the Uncharted 2 online beta thanks to the good folks at Co-optimus. So I popped it on today, and played the co-op mode. The co-op mode consists of a short stage, where you and two others play through the level.
I liked it. It had similar controls to the first Uncharted, and the same fighting style, where you run, find cover, and shoot up some baddies. Only this time, you are joined by two friends, who take on two other characters. Its a lot of fun. There are some areas where you need a buddy to help you through. For example, at one part, a player had to stand at the bottom of a street lamp and offer a boost up to the other players. Also, a big part of it is reviving your buddies. When a player goes down, the other players have a chance to run over and revive the player. So if all three players go down, its game over.
I really enjoyed it. I think it worked well as co-op. Its a shame the actual game wont feature this, and the online co-op will only consist of mini-missions, and not the entire campaign. Still, it was a lot of fun, and I look forward to the finished product. Im sure I’ll play through it a few more times, and even try the competitive mode eventually.
Good stuff. It lives up to the first Uncharted, which I think is one of Sony’s best exclusives (next to God of War and Resistance, of course). But Uncharted is something that PS3 players need…something that they can have, and gloat over the other players who dont have a PS3. The Uncharted series is definitely one of the top Ps3 exclusives.

I just received a code to get into the Uncharted 2 beta, thanks to the grand folks over at Co-optimus. Wish I didnt have my test tonight so I could check it out now, but theresĀ cramming to be had. Luckily Im off all day tomorrow, so I’ll be gaming it up the whole day. I’ll have to divide the time between Uncharted 2 and Ghostbusters. Should be a fun-filled day none the less. I’ll pop up my impressions of Uncharted 2, as well as a review of Ghostbusters, some time tomorrow.
