Treehouse of Horror XXII is a Nightmare for any Simpson’s Fan

In order to get into a Halloween state of mind, Shell and I spent the weekend watching a good chunk of the Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror episodes. I ended up caving in and actually watched each one from their individual season sets, so there was a lot of getting off the couch every twenty minutes to change out the disc. The Treehouse of Horror marathon ended tonight at 8:30pm EST after we watched the episode from the current season, Treehouse of Horror XXII. Unfortunately, it was chock full of three lame stories that were just horribly constructed and presented. Please note that the following contains spoilers, so read if you don’t want to be heartbroken on your own.

My First 24 Hours of 360 Goodness: The Technical Stuff

I’ve had the system for a full 24 hours, and I wanted to lay down my first impressions of the system and the games I’ve checked out so far. Firstly, I would like to address the controller. It’s nice, and is very comfortable in my hand. I like how the left analog stick is slightly higher than the right one, giving you a more natural feel. I was also glad to see that there was a sync button, like the PS3 controller has, to get to the main menu, and to turn the system on. Good stuff! However, there were two things I’m not as big a fan of. First, I don’t like the directional pad. It feels kind of wobbly, as it is on a raised, circular platform of sorts. The PS3 controller has the directional just as four separate buttons, while the 360 has it as one big button. It works fine and all, but just feels a little odd. Secondly, I was disappointed in the controller power situation. I like how the PS3 controller has a battery installed right inside the controller, and to charge it you just plug it into either the system or a computer…wherever you can find a nearby USB drive. The 360 controller CAN do that, but only if you purchase a separate device that hooks it up to do that. Otherwise, your two options are to use two AA batteries per controller or to purchase a battery charging station, which is the path I chose to go. Don’t get me wrong, this is not going to kill me or anything, but I just liked the convenience of being able to use my PS3 controller out of the box and never have to worry about changing batteries. The 360 controller is still pretty awesome.

Ive been looking forward to finding time to see Avatar with Shell. It was one of those movies that looked so visually stunning that I really wanted to see it in the theaters. Today was one of the first free weekends we have had since before Christmas, so we headed to the mall for an afternoon flick.

The basic plot of the movie is as follows. Humans head to a planet called Pandora, which is home to an extremely valuable metal called unobtainium (which I thought was a pretty stupid name.) As the humans wish to strip mine the planet for the precious metal, they come into contact with an indigenous tribe of humanoids named the Na’vi. The corporation manning the mining operation wants a peaceful solution to the problem, so they create “avatars”, which is a genetic clone of a Na’vi that a human can control from a remote location by basically moving his mind to that of the avatars. One of the men who controls an avatar ends up realizing that the Na’vi life is better and that the humans are a threat, and he ends up becoming a leader to them.

Shell and I picked up our wedding bands today at the mall. I snagged mine from Kay Jewelers, and Shell ordered her from Belkin.

I ended up picking out this:

I know the pics are not the best quality. I blame the camera.

Anywho, I wanted the very best quality ring possible. Shell would not let me get The One Ring, and  unfortunately the jeweler did not have any adamantium or unobtainium in stock. Thus I went with the next best thing, being titanium. Its basically a black ring with a thin silver border. I have never worn rings before, and I did not want to get a “girly” gold ring, so I wanted something manly. I think this fits the bill pretty well, and Im pretty happy with my choice.

New Years Eve Plans

Well, I still cant believe it, but tonight is the one-year anniversary of our engagement. I cant believe its been a whole year since I popped the question. Now that Christmas is over, the next few months are gonna fly by, and before I know it, the wedding will be here. Anywho, due to this, we decided to have a nice, quiet night together.

We made reservations at some Thai restaurant in Albany. The restaurant does not have a liquor license, which means we are bringing our own bottle of wine, which should be fun. Afterwards, we will be hitting up the movies. We’re not sure what we’re gonna see yet, it will depend on what time it is. What we do know is that we will either be seeing Avatar or Sherlock Holmes. I dont care which one, since I want to see both, and the other one we will just go see next week.

After the movie we will head home, get drunk, and hang out the rest of the night. If she gets drunk enough I hope to get some Rock Band in or something. Eventually we will settle down to watch the ball drop, and then its off to bed. Tomorrow morning we are leaving early to get to my parents house for lunch and to exchange Christmas gifts, and to stay overnight. Then Saturday we will do the same thing at Shell’s dads house, and we will head back up to Albany Sunday afternoon. Thats the plan for the weekend!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years!
