I went outside this morning to get the car warmed up and the ice melted off before heading to the grocery store. I was shocked to find that the battery had died, as the car wouldn’t turn on, the headlights would light up, and the locks on the door couldn’t be opened manually. Seeing how I bought the car new in 2004 and never replaced the battery, I figured that after six and a half years it was past it’s time for sure. I jumped online to double check that AAA would come out to do a jump start, and I think I googled something like “will AAA jump your battery.” What came up surprised me, as it was a bunch of different websites with people complaining about the “scam” that AAA would pull in that they would offer to install a cruddy battery right there, but the battery would be an inferior product. So after scraping the ice off the hood, I gave AAA a call to come give me a jump so that I could drive down to an auto store and get a new battery (I didn’t like what I heard about the AAA battery replacement.)
When I first called, I apparently called the wrong number, as the AAA agent I contacted did not service my area. After figuring out that part, he gave me the number for my local AAA station. This guy was a lot better, and told me that a repairman would be there in an hour. I figured I would take a shower, and about five minutes after getting out (about twenty minutes after I hung up with the AAA guy on the phone), I got a call telling me the repairman would be there momentarily. I quickly ran about getting dressed, and by the time I pulled my sweater on and grabbed my keys I saw the AAA truck next to my car in the parking lot, and I ran down to meet him as he was calling me from his cell phone.
