I was shocked to hear that not only one, but two new TV series based on fairy tales were premiering this season. ABC showed off its new series, Once Upon a Time, on Sunday while NBC aired its first episode of “Grimm” on Friday. Just from the title of both shows you can tell they both revolve around fairy tales of some sort or another, but the two shows are completely different. While Once Upon a Time is a family-friendly show that features many of the classic fairy tale characters, Grimm is a darker and more original show that uses fairy tales as the backdrop for totally original characters. Let’s look more into how these two shows compare. Read More

No Ordinary Family…A Nice Mixture of The Incredibles and Heroes
Tagged as abc, big bad bob, bigbadbob, heroes, lost, nightcrawler, no ordinary family, powers, super hero, the incredibles, TV Shows
With the series finales of Lost and Heroes last season, I was left wondering if there was a new show that we would be able to get into. When I first heard about another super hero tv series in the guise of No Ordinary Family, I was a bit skeptical as it looked like it was a bit too family-driven and not necessarily super power driven. However, as chance had it, we turned the TV on at 8:00pm tonight, and happened to pass it right as it started, and I said “let’s watch it and see how it is.” After the premiere episode, I’m happy to say that I liked what I saw, and will be watching it regularly.
The show focuses on a family of four who suddenly receive super powers following a plane crash. Seeing how it is the first episode, not much else was revealed, but you were introduced to the family. The stay at home father who is a police sketch artist has super strength, can jump (or bound, as he puts it) and likes to catch bullets. The scientist mother has the ability to run really fast. The teenage daughter is a telepathic and can read the thoughts of everyone…including the backstabbing friends at school. Finally, the son can… apparently understand complex math problems? There are some other characters with powers introduced throughout the episode, hinting at the fact that their powers were not unique to the airplane accident, including a man who can teleport (very similarly to Nightcrawler) and someone who appears to have the power to control electricity.
After watching the first episode, I believe that it will be a promising series. The combination of people with powers along with a strong family unit reminds me of a merging of Heroes and the Incredibles. The show isn’t entirely serious like Heroes was, and has some of family-friendly feelings like the Incredibles. Seeing how I’m a fan of both, I’m pretty happy, and if you like super heroes and all the cool stuff they do, give the first episode a try and see what you think about it. As for me, I know what I’ll be watching every Tuesday night at 8:00 on ABC.
My Thoughts on Lost (obviously some spoilers)

So Lost has come and gone, and the series is finished. I remember first borrowing Cara’s DVDs and once I popped them in, I was hooked. Over the summer I watched seasons one and two within a week, and was ready for season three once the show came back that fall. The show did such a great job in creating deep, rich characters, and you couldn’t help but love or hate them.
After watching the finale, I’m at a loss. The show didn’t really explain everything and spell it out for you. What I got out of it so far is that they all died in the plane crash. The island was a limbo/purgatory type place where they were given a chance to redeem themselves in a way. Many of them overcame their flaws and became good people, while others did not. In the end, I’m pretty sure they were successful in whatever they were meant to accomplish there, and were allowed to move on to the afterlife (being Heaven.) Read More
I Heart Hulu

So Ive just begun checking out Hulu this week, and so far Im liking it. If you dont know, its a website where you can watch TV episodes and movies for free. There is no player or anything to download, as you can watch it right off the site. There are commercial breaks, but only 15-30 seconds long, which isnt too bad.
I like it because it is fast, has good quality, and is convenient. I remember having to watch missed episodes of Heroes or Lost on either NBC or ABCs websites, and it was a pain the the butt. You had to install a player onto your computer first, then you had to follow a confusing series of menus to find the option to play the show you want to watch, then you had to guess which was the most current episode (because they werent numbered or anything). Also, the quality sucked, and the videos often skipped, and it took forever to load up.
Hulu is not like that. You just search for what you want, and if its there it comes up. I just watched an episode of the Simpsons that I missed from a few weeks ago and it was great. The episodes are not only labeled with their title, but also the season and episode numbers, so you know where in the season it is. Good stuff all around. I could have used this a few years ago when I was in my first Oneonta apartment, and didnt have television at all.
I highly recommend checking it out. You can find your favorites that you missed, plus some new stuff that you probably would never watch.
