I’m Pro-Nedna, Are You?

This past season of The Simpsons has been better than previous years, and Sunday night’s season finale supports this. In the episode, Ned Flanders and Edna Krabappel begin to date after a chance encounter. The two begin to get serious, despite Flanders being against pre-marital sex while, as most Simpson viewers know, Edna tends to get around. The thing is that, as Flanders says in the episode, “we’ve never been formally introduced”, so he does not know about Edna’s chance. Eventually he does find out, and they have an argument, with Flanders saying that he forgives her while she angerly tells him her past is nothing to be ashamed of. The episode ends as Homer and Marge take control and urge viewers to go to the Simpson’s website and vote on whether “Nedna” should remain an item or not. The results on the online voting will be integrated in time for the season premiere this Fall.

So what’s my take on this? I’m all about the Nedna. Flanders has been alone for awhile now, despite his brief encounter with the country/church singer. I think it’s high time he have a woman, especially since he is one of the more central characters (being the Simpsons’ neighborino and all.) And they do say that opposite’s attract, which is exactly why Edna is a good match for him. Yeah, she is “easy” and a number of the male (and apparently a few of the female) citizens of Springfield have spent at least one night with her. Yet if you look at her character, she’s really just a romantic who wants to find Mr. Right. I guess I feel that Ned can indeed trust her, because even though she may put out on the first date, I don’t think she’s one to cheat on her current attachment. After all this time being a desperate single woman (when she wasn’t involved with Skinner) she deserves to finally find a good guy, and I think Ned can be that. Plus it will be hilarious to have two very different people together and living right next door, with Flanders being Homer’s foil while Edna is definitely Bart’s arch nemesis in a way.

So what do you guys think? Do you think Edna and Flanders are a good match not just for each other but for the general show as well? Or would you rather both of them return to their miserable lonely lives? Leave a comment with your thoughts, and be sure to vote and voice your opinion (the link to the site is embedded in the first paragraph.)

Also, if you missed the season finale and want to watch it before you judge for yourself, you can check it out right here on Hulu for free.

When I first got into wrestling in ’98, there were quite a few superstars I enjoyed. Undertaker, Triple H, Ken Shamrock, “The Lethal Weapon” Steve Blackman…just to name a few. These were guys who I enjoyed watching simply because I thought they were awesome. Then there was another group of individuals who really stuck out to me…three guys who were relatively “young” in their careers, but I would turn to my friends during PPVs and say “this guy is going to be WWF Champion one day. These three guys were Edge, Bradshaw, and Test. I didn’t call it with Test, but I was right on guessing that Edge and Bradshaw would enjoy the championship gold in the future. But the one person I do want to talk about is, obviously, Edge.

On Monday, Edge came out to the ring and announced his retirement due to injuries. I was shocked when I stumbled across the news on Tuesday. Here’s a video of his speech:

So as you can see, it’s been pretty quiet around here lately. I blame the new job, which has definitely been kicking my butt since I have to get up at 2:45am. I usually don’t get home until after 12, so by that time I’m just so exhausted that I drag myself into the shower and then flop down on the couch. Yet it saddens my heart to see this blog not being updated, so today I started up on a few posts which will be finalized over the coming days.

As far as video games goes, my drought is finally over. For the past two weeks I’ve had nothing really to play, which was pretty sad. But this week has been nuts, and I’ve had a bunch of games thrown at me: Read More »

Thoughts on Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump

On Tuesday I was able to catch the Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump, and it was a pretty good one. There were some decent roasters, ranging from the usual suspects of Jeff Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, and Gilbert Gottfried to some unexpected ones such as Larry King and Snoop Dogg (though I think Snoop Dogg was on a previous roast as well.)

Most of the comics were great…with one major exception. For whatever reason, Comedy Central made the stupid, bone-head decision to include Michael Sorrentino, better known as “The Situation” from MTV’s Jersey Shore program, as one of the roasters. As the roasters in front of him mocked him, The Situation would just make these doofy faces and just had the body language of an incompetent moron. Then when it was his turn, man did he make a fool of himself. His jokes were mainly comparing the other roasters to himself, and how much “cooler” he was than them. No one laughed, and if you did happen to hear a faint laugh coming from the audience, it was one of those uncomfortable laughs that people will sometimes do in awkward situations. The Situation appeared to take no heed of this and kept on trucking, only making matters worse. Eventually, to my delight, he was actually booed, and Jeff Ross went up to attempt to salvage what he could. Unfortunately, The Situation seemed to not realize what was going on, and acted as if he was the best roaster on the stage. It was an embarrassment not only for him, but for Comedy Central itself. I really don’t know who’s dodo-brained idea it was to allow this joke of a man (who couldn’t tell a joke if his life depended on it) to share the stage with distinguished comics, but I hope the culprit’s head will roll. Check out a portion of his failure here:

The Cape Gets Canceled

I popped on NBC at 9:00pm EST tonight to catch this week’s episode of The Cape, and was shocked to find that it was not on. After doing some online researching, I found that the show was not just being pushed back a week (as has happened several times this season), but has actually been canceled. Thus I am left to make yet another rant about a good show getting canceled before it’s time, much like My Name is Earl and Heroes. It’s funny how Earl, Heroes, and The Cape are all NBC shows…

The worst part of this is that it happened basically mid-season. Yeah, the season was almost over, with only two weeks left, but it is still upsetting to know that I won’t be watching any new episodes of The Cape on TV ever again. However, all is not totally lost. NBC has confirmed that “…the show’s season finale, which was to have aired this past Monday as part of a double-header, instead will premiere online at NBC.com sometime in March.”  Read More »

Donald Trump Target of Next Comedy Central Roast

While watching Tosh.0 tonight, one of the commercials started with images of Donald Trump. Since it was Comedy Central, I quickly ruled out that this was yet another commercial for Celebrity Apprentice. Thus, I made the logical assumption that he would be the “guest of honor” at this year’s Comedy Central Roast. A few moments later my rationale was confirmed…Donald Trump will be roasted on Comedy Central in March (it will be filmed March 9 and will air at an as-of-yet undisclosed date in March). I like this year’s pick, and I think there will be plenty of fodder to go against Trump. It would be great if Vince McMahon would come by to get another haircut…

I always enjoy the Comedy Central Roasts, and I’m sure this years will be no exception. The only confirmed roaster is actually the “Roast Master”…Seth MacFarlane will return to do the (dis)honors this time around (he was the host of last year’s Roast of David Hasselhoff.) I’m sure the usual suspects will be present such as Jeffery Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, and others (I’m sure Greg Giraldo would have been there…RIP.) Personally, I always welcome the addition of Jon Lovitz…

Jon Heder Returns as Napoleon Dynamite…As a Cartoon

Shell and I were hanging out tonight, and as we were talking we brought up Jon Heder. I didn’t know what he has been up to, so I ventured over to IMDB to see what he had in the works. As I looked at the entries in his filmography I almost froze…it was listed that he would be starring in a Napoleon Dynamite TV series in 2011. As many of you know, I am a HUGE fan of the movie, having paid to see it in the theaters three times! I immediately began to wonder how the cast would be in this TV series, and I craved more information. I eventually found some more news about it, mainly that FOX was picking it up for a six-episode season and it would be animated.

I am wary of this being an animated show, but I am somewhat relieved to see that the movie’s cast are reprising their roles for the show, so I’m hoping it won’t be awful. The show has a lot of potential, as the cast of characters are great (I almost pissed my pants when I saw that above pic containing Rex.) The funny thing is that Shell and I have always talked about how it’s probably a good thing that they never made a second movie, since the first was so different and original that it would be tough to live up to it. Now that there is going to be an animated series, with the original cast, my hopes are high for something decent. Read More »

Series Premiere of “The Cape” (spoilers)

I was watching TV last week, and saw a brief thirty-second teaser for NBC’s new show, The Cape. I had heard nothing about it before this, or until I watched the series premiere tonight, but that teaser had me sold. It looked like a solid super hero series, but with a darker, more serious undertone to it. After watching tonight’s two hour series premiere, I’m pretty happy with the show, and I look forward adding the series to the list of series I watch regularly.

As I said, the show has a more serious/realistic feel to it. It follows the life of Vince, a detective who is eventually framed for murder and then “killed” on television. However, Vince survives, and is taken in by a gang of bank robbers who are actually carnies (I don’t know what it is with these super hero shows and carnies these days…) Vince is trained by the different members where he perfects his melee fighting skills, as well as learns hypnotism and masters the art of escaping and creating illusions, much like David Copperfield. Vince is also trained to wield a special cape and uses it as a major form of combat, as he can whip it around and grab objects at a distance with it.

Meet Kidrobot’s Snake…from the Simpsons

For Christmas Steve gave me a Kidrobot Simpson’s figure. For those not familiar with it, there are a high-quality, small action figure that are sold in unmarked boxes. These special boxes mean you have no idea what you’re going to get…similar to the old school CCGs I used to play in high school. So they come in this black box, and upon opening the box the figure itself is wrapped up in a heavy-duty foil bag, so there is no way to cheat and see what you’re getting.

Once I took the foil bag out of the box, I tried rubbing over the face to see if I could tell who it was, but I couldn’t. Steve then gave it a whirl, and insisted he felt a hat, and thus he assumed it was Chief Wiggum. So it was quite the surprise when I opened the bag to reveal not Springfield’s Chief of Police, but rather his arch nemesis…Snake!

Strange Addictions

We started watching this show tonight on TLC called Strange Addictions, and it definitely lives up to its name. Basically, each half-hour episode follows two individuals who have a strange compulsive addiction. The first episode we watched tonight was very odd indeed. The first lady had an addiction to eating toilet paper, and ate over 100 sheets a day. She would just sit around and snack on toilet paper, whether she was home or out and about.

The second lady on the show was addicted to sleeping with her hair dryer blowing on her. She could not sleep without this hair dryer going, and she would wake up with burns on her body from the heat. I just kept thinking about what a fire hazard that has to be. Read More »

Guys Weekend-In A Success

Shell was in Vegas this past weekend visiting with her family and throwing her sister a surprise baby shower. That left me alone for the extended weekend, which proved to be the perfect opportunity for me to throw a “Guys Weekend In” and have my friend Steve come up from Middytown. The weekend was full of gaming, cheesy movies, geocaching, hockey, and lots more. I fine time was had by all.

The main event of the weekend was WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. I had created a co-op storyline for Steve and myself which followed our rise to the top, and eventually to the tag team titles. The storyline had everything: action, suspense, treachery, comedy, and more. It also included a variety of tag team matches of varying degrees, all culminating in a massive Hell in a Cell match at the PPV for the tag team titles. We also played plenty of exhibition tag team and other matches, including Royal Rumble, Table, Money in the Bank, Elimination Chamber, and many others. WWE SvR 2011 was clearly the winner this weekend.

Netflix Instant on PS3 Now Discless: Now Better than 360

I loved that Netflix bought their instant movie/tv show watching to the home consoles, as it is way better to watch from your own tv as opposed to the computer. I used the PS3 initially, and it worked great. The only downside was that you had to put a Netflix disc in the system, so when I wanted to watch a movie I had to get up and change out the game disc with the Netflix one. Then I got a 360, and the fact that their Netflix features were discless made me watch most of my videos on there. I also thought the load times were faster on the 360, and there was less buffering instances.

But yesterday Sony rolled out their own discless Netflix, and I was instantly hooked. Once you select the movie you want to watch, it is played almost instantly. I would say that there is maybe a two-second load time, if that. Also, I haven’t experienced any buffering or lag during play. Also, the Netflix program itself loads up extremely quickly from the PS3′s XMB. The PS3 has also upgraded it’s Netflix capabilities by offering most of the features the 360 does, mainly the ability to get suggestions, browse more categories, and actually search the instant database for movie titles or actors/actresses. The only feature that the 360 still has over the PS3 is the ability to watch a movie/tv show with your online friends.

I am so glad the PS3 got this upgraded version of Netflix. Not only does it now offer the same features that the 360 does, but it is now superior to the 360, in terms of video quality and upload speeds. I’m not saying that the 360′s Netflix is bad, but  the PS3 will offer the same quality experience, just faster. I truly love the instant Netflix on my consoles!!!

Simpsons Season 22 Shaping Up to be Pretty Decent

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS

I’m a huge fan of The Simpsons, but not usually of the past few seasons. While some episodes are okay, many are pretty forgettable and just plain stale. I don’t watch the current season on Sunday nights, but today I sat down and watched the first three episodes of season 22 on hulu.com. While I did not like the first episode, the other two were very good, and feel like old-school episodes in terms of their quality.

The first episode has a dual storyline, with Lisa going away to a Performing Arts camp while Homer and Bart work to defend Krusty before the ICC (International Criminal Court.) The storyline following Lisa was pretty lame, and was more a way to get to people who enjoy the show “Glee”, since many of the show’s stars appeared in the episode. The Krusty storyline was equally lame, as Bart and Homer had to find a way to prove that Krusty had made a positive impact on the world or he would be imprisoned by the ICC. Neither part of the episode was very good, and it gave me a bad feeling for what I might be in for the rest of the season.

Nick Swardson’s “Pretend Time” is a Show I’ll Pretend I Never Watched

CONTAINS SPOILERS

I like Nick Swardson. I enjoyed his role in the movie “Grandma’s Boy” and on “Reno 911″, and I also liked his stand-up, to the point that I have one of his CDs. His humor is definitely more on the juvenile side, as he relies on a lot of gay and bathroom jokes, but it worked in stand-up. Unfortunately, when he transcribes his humor into organized sketches, you realize how stupid his jokes really are, and his show, Nick Swardson’s Pretend Time, becomes unwatchable.

The few sketches I watched were just stupid. The first one took place in a hockey arena, so I was excited at first. I excitement soon dwindled when all that happened in the sketch was that he and his girlfriend got hit in the face repeatedly with hockey pucks, and then they were forced to make out when the “kiss cam” centered on them. It was pretty gross watching these two bloodied people slobbering all over each other, and it just wasn’t funny. The second sketch was even worse, and could very well have been made by a six year old child. Basically it was a mock commercial for a new car called the “Peeus”, which was a car that ran on piss. The mock commercial had people pissing into the car to fuel it up. The weird thing about it was that everyone’s piss was green… Read More »

No Ordinary Family…A Nice Mixture of The Incredibles and Heroes

With the series finales of Lost and Heroes last season, I was left wondering if there was a new show that we would be able to get into. When I first heard about another super hero tv series in the guise of No Ordinary Family, I was a bit skeptical as it looked like it was a bit too family-driven and not necessarily super power driven. However, as chance had it, we turned the TV on at 8:00pm tonight, and happened to pass it right as it started, and I said “let’s watch it and see how it is.” After the premiere episode, I’m happy to say that I liked what I saw, and will be watching it regularly.

The show focuses on a family of four who suddenly receive super powers following a plane crash. Seeing how it is the first episode, not much else was revealed, but you were introduced to the family. The stay at home father who is a police sketch artist has super strength, can jump (or bound, as he puts it) and likes to catch bullets. The scientist mother has the ability to run really fast. The teenage daughter is a telepathic and can read the thoughts of everyone…including the backstabbing friends at school. Finally, the son can… apparently understand complex math problems? There are some other characters with powers introduced throughout the episode, hinting at the fact that their powers were not unique to the airplane accident, including a man who can teleport (very similarly to Nightcrawler) and someone who appears to have the power to control electricity.

After watching the first episode, I believe that it will be a promising series. The combination of people with powers along with a strong family unit reminds me of a merging of Heroes and the Incredibles. The show isn’t entirely serious like Heroes was, and has some of family-friendly feelings like the Incredibles. Seeing how I’m a fan of both, I’m pretty happy, and if you like super heroes and all the cool stuff they do, give the first episode a try and see what you think about it. As for me, I know what I’ll be watching every Tuesday night at 8:00 on ABC.

My Recent Smackdown Escapade

I went to a taping of WWE’s Smackdown show last night (Tuesday, August 31) at the Times Union Center in Albany (home of AHL hockey!!!), and enjoyed myself quite a bit. The arena about a twelve minute drive from my apartment, tickets were only $25, and the Undertaker was going to be there…all aspects which made me want to go, despite the fact that I haven’t sat down and watched wrestling since the very early 2000′s. I must say that it is a heck of a lot more fun when you’re there as opposed to watching from home.

Note: I did not bring my camera, since I assumed they would be searching and Shell was not around to hide it in her pocketbook. Turns out that cameras are encouraged, just no video cams, so I could have brought it, and if I had known, there would have been a lot more pics. Instead all I have are a few crappy ones I took with my cell phone.

Let me talk about the overall feel in the arena first. It was hot, sweaty, and stinky…I have to say that the stench was far worse than anything I had to endure at PAX East. But the slight discomforts made up for actually being there, surrounding by raving fans who probably believe that the WWE is the same as UFC and other MMAs, in that the fights are real. There were kids, teens, and full-grown adults walking around sporting various WWE shirts, signs, and even belts (professional and makeshift.) To hear the crowd react to the wrestlers in the ring was also pretty cool, from everyone shouting for a fan-fave to kick out of a pin or submission to the crowd booing at the heel when he flaunted to the stands. You could hear everyone say “oooh!” with each chest chop and dropkick that was received. The other mind-blowing reaction was when a wrestler’s theme music hit, indicating they were on their way to the ring. The people got so worked up to see their fan favorites, and it really did make the experience a fun and memorable one. Read More »

Getting Ready for Smackdown at the Times Union Center

As I previously mentioned, I snagged tickets to go to my first WWE match for Smackdown tonight. However, I assumed it was going to be a shortened, un-televised match, so I didn’t expect much to happen. As big a fan of the Undertaker as I am, I doubted that he would win the title from Kane simply because the show was going to be un-televised.

However, as I was doing some random searches on the internet, I discovered an interesting fact…Smackdown, when televised on Friday nights, is not a live show. I have always known that Raw was, so I always assumed that Smackdown was also live. Much to my surprise, I discovered that Smackdown is generally filmed on Tuesday nights, but airs on Fridays. That means that the show I see tonight is the show that will air on Friday, meaning that it is possible for the Undertaker to win the title tonight.

The fact that I’m going to a show that will eventually be aired, and am able to watch it three days before the vast majority of the WWE fans, is pretty cool. So if you happen to be a WWE fan and want some nice spoilers, tune in to my blog tomorrow and I’ll give you the juiciest news of what went down.

Hot off the Presses: Simpsons Season 13

The long-awaited Simpsons Season 13 released today, and my copy came right on time from good ol’ Amazon. I had placed an order for three copies back in June…one each for my brother-in-law and friend (their birthdays are both this week, so it worked out well), and one for myself! I did the same last year with Season 12, since the three of us are such big Simpsons fans, though last year backfired.

I’m looking forward to it, but also dreading it. On the one hand, Season 13 has quite a few episodes that I either watched and forgot, or that I haven’t seen. This is due to the fact that we are now approaching the decline of the Simpsons, where the episodes lose the great quality that the earlier seasons had. I was even seeing aspects of this decline in Season 12, so I know that it will continue. However, even though the quality will progressively decline from now on, I will still purchase each season, simply because I either don’t remember or have never seen these episodes.

My Thoughts on the New Season of Futurama

futurama

Tonight was the season premiere of Futurama, which has been revived by Comedy Central. I was very excited when I first heard this was going to happen, but over the past week, with it getting closer, I began to get nervous. Despite the fact that the writers and voice actors were returning, I was concerned if Comedy Central would lead to a change in the general “feeling” of the show, and if it would begin to push the envelope in certain aspects.

The season premiere tonight was actually two different episodes. Both ended up being very good, and I was laughing quite often. The first episode was just silly and kind of all over the place, but it’s nothing they haven’t done before. The second episode was quite hilarious, and focused a bit heavily on Zap.  It still had the same feeling for the most part as when the show was on Fox, but there were a few things that happened in the episodes that would have never happened in the show’s hayday. So far though, I’m quite pleased. It brings back feelings of nostalgia, and I’m glad that the show has returned in the capacity it has. The show could have been worse, but so far it is definitely living up to my expectations. I will be looking forward to watching it weekly, and hopefully the other episodes remain to be in good taste and classic Futuramaness.
