The History of Big Bad Bob

Have you ever wondered why I refer to myself as “BigBadBob”? Let me take you on a stroll down memory lane as I pry open my past for all to see, so that you may learn the origins of my name.

First off, I have always gone by “Rob”, and to this day I still do, aside. The name “Bob” first started out in high school, probably around 9th grade (which would be around ’97.) There was this guy on our bus…a huge biker/head banger who had asperations of becoming a ECW wrestler (he didn’t think WWF was hardcore enough for his tastes.) For whatever reason, he always called me “Bob.” The guy was ridiculous and such a joke, so my best friend Pete and I would always made fun of him (though not to his face, since he was two grade levels above us.) As time went on, Pete began to call me Bob. It started out as his way of making fun of me (which was a pretty light example of our humor, since I used to call him Queter), but over time he stuck with it, and it became what he called me. To this day, he and his family still refer to me as Bob. Read More »

Meet Kidrobot’s Snake…from the Simpsons

For Christmas Steve gave me a Kidrobot Simpson’s figure. For those not familiar with it, there are a high-quality, small action figure that are sold in unmarked boxes. These special boxes mean you have no idea what you’re going to get…similar to the old school CCGs I used to play in high school. So they come in this black box, and upon opening the box the figure itself is wrapped up in a heavy-duty foil bag, so there is no way to cheat and see what you’re getting.

Once I took the foil bag out of the box, I tried rubbing over the face to see if I could tell who it was, but I couldn’t. Steve then gave it a whirl, and insisted he felt a hat, and thus he assumed it was Chief Wiggum. So it was quite the surprise when I opened the bag to reveal not Springfield’s Chief of Police, but rather his arch nemesis…Snake!

Christmas is Upon Us

With Thanksgiving behind us, we start to look ahead to the next holiday…Christmas. A sure sign that it is that time of year is when Shell and I break out boxes upon boxes of Christmas decorations, ranging from lights, wreaths, window displays, and, my personal favorite, my talking Homer Santa! He makes a great addition to my cluttered desk during the holidays.

I went up to Oneonta today to meet up with my Dad. Deer season starts tomorrow, and he was up there today getting ready and making some basic repairs to the house up there, so I met him there to give him a hand. After a few hours of work and lunch, he wanted to take the ATV up the road and drive over to his tree stand to make sure it was ready for tomorrow. I had an accident involving an ATV years ago, and since then I have never driven one again, so I was not about to go up with him. Instead I decided to stay behind at the house and wander around outside.

So I walked down to one of the abandoned farmhouses on the property and checked it out, but didn’t stay long. My hobophobia had kicked in and I was afraid that I would find a vagrant living in the house over there. So I walked back to the main house to wait for my Dad to return. As I walked alongside the back of the main house, but still a ways up in the woods on a hill above the house, I happened to look down at the house. I suddenly stopped short, because I had noticed something weird. I took a closer look, and sure enough I saw something in the back room window:

Batsquatch is Just Too Ridiculous…Even for Me

I think most people who even know a little bit of me know that I have a fascination with Sasquatch/Bigfoot. I honestly like to believe that such a creature is out there…some kind of lost link between man and beast that has eluded capture all these years. However, what I won’t stand for is this creature I just became aware of this very evening…

As odd as it may sound, Shell enjoys watching those “ghost shows” that air on A&E and other stations. We were watching the show “Paranormal State” today, and the episode we watched didn’t concern ghosts…it concerned UFOs. This was weird to me because every episode we have watched so far featured a haunted house or business with ghosts…never UFOs. I was intrigued, since I also have a belief in interstellar life outside our own. However, it went downhill pretty fast. What started as an episode about UFOs outside this ranch that people stay over to watch them took a horrific turn as the team headed into the woods at night to get their investigation on, and one of the locals began to tell them that something lurked in those woods: Batsquatch.

At the time I was playing around on my phone, but as I heard the word “…quatch” uttered my interested shot back to the television to see how Sasquatch was brought into this. Then I thought I heard the guy say “Batsquatch”, and I didn’t think I heard it right. That’s when the guy revealed a picture he drew of what he believed lived in the woods, and at that point I nearly lost it. This is the imageĀ  the guy on the show claimed he saw (I actually got if off their website):

Geocache Adventure #14: The Final Visit to East Greenbush Town Park

As I mentioned earlier, Steve came up last weekend to partake in Guys Weekend In. On Sunday we decided to do some geocaching. Steve had a travel bug he had picked up at a previous cache that he wanted to drop off, and I wanted to finish up some caches I hadn’t found at the East Greenbush Town Park yet. Thus, I decided that we could go there and kill two birds with one stone.

We started off by returning to “the icky place”, which was the abandoned, run-down restroom at the park. This was my fourth return there to try and find it, and I was determined to finally cross it off my list with the help of a second pair of eyes with Steve. Once we walked up to the bathroom, I suddenly realized that I had once again forgotten to bring a flashlight. Luckily Steve had an app on his phone that turned his phone’s camera flash into a flashlight, so we were good to go. For some reason, the flashlight apps available for my Droid were only for the screen, which wasn’t much help. Read More »

Plugging Along in the Grading Gig

My current job has me grading state tests for elementary school students. Thus, the job had proven to be quite entertaining as the kids frequently get off topic. So papers constantly have either a listing of their favorite foods or pets, while the really far out ones are just ridiculous stories the kids write up on the spot. It definitely helps the day go quick.

We can all see that the country is going down, and here in good ol’ New York that is plain to see. Especially when you are living outside Albany, the state capital, where local news consists of where Patterson ate lunch that day. Well, today being the first Tuesday after the first Monday of November (ie- Election Day), I headed to the polls to choose Patterson’s replacement.

In the end, I went with what I know…and I know Star Wars. Thus, I voted for Carl Paladino, since he reminds me of Emperor Palpatine, supreme overlord of the Galactic Empire.

Carl Paladino- Republican Party

Emperor Palpatine- Galactic Empire

It doesn’t stop there. If Warwick Davis was to run for Senator or some other position, I would vote for him in a heartbeat. Wicket is the most badass of the Ewoks!

Went in for a Watch, Left with a Free Teddy Bear As Well

I’m writing this post now, on 10/4, but I won’t be publishing it until after Shell’s birthday (10/20), simply because I don’t want her to know where I went shopping for her or what she is getting for her birthday. However, the story is just so ridiculous that I really wanted to tell it, but don’t want to wait a few weeks so that I will likely forget most of the details. So here it goes:

I went to one of the jewelry stores in the local mall to pick up Shell a watch for her birthday, as she has been wanting a nice fancy one for awhile. So I went to the case, and I found one that I thought she would like. The saleswoman saw me and came over, showed me the watch, and I decided to purchase it. She took me over to the register and began the process of ringing me up. Eventually, the weirdness began when she said to me: Read More »

“Secret Project” Now 2/3′s Complete

It’s a very slow process, but I think it’s safe to say that I am 2/3′s of the way done with my project. This last third of the way should be a bit easier, and should be done at a faster rate than the other two thirds were. Things continue to go well overall with it, but there is still plenty of work to do before the end.

Going to See my First WWE Match

I first got hooked on WWF wrestling back in the late 90s, after I was introduced to it by “The Legend”, who was obsessed with wresting so much that he would draw wrestlers all the time in art class. After I was hooked on the show, I really got hooked on the games. Despite the fact that I haven’t sat down and watched wrestling in close to ten years, I still continue to love the games, and buy the newest edition each year (side note: I have $62 in Amazon credit from traded in games, and I will be ordering SvR 2011.) So despite my love of wrestling when I was in high school, I never got to see a live match.

Yesterday I was driving to Middletown to visit my dad and some friends, and I had the radio on. Eventually one of the commercials was advertising that Smackdown was coming to the Times Union Center on Tuesday. I said to myself “that would be cool.” Then the commercial went on to say that tickets were available for $15. I said to myself, “wow, that’s pretty cheap, and the Times Union Center is pretty small, so there really isn’t a bad seat in the house.” Then the commercial delivered the killing blow to me…it announced that the main event would be the Undertaker, challenging Kane for the Championship. This was what made me say “ZOMG I AM GOING TO THIS SHOW!” The Undertaker has forever been my wrestling hero, and to be able to see him live in a championship match sealed the deal, and I decided to go.

Thus on Tuesday, at 7:30pm, I will be attending my first wrestling match ever, either with a local friend or Shell. I have no idea who half the current wrestlers are, I have no clue as to what the current story lines are, but all I know is that I will sit through it all for a chance to see the Phenom challenge his brother for the Championship. I’m extremely psyched for this!

Heading to Medieval Times in November!

I just finished purchasing tickets to Medieval Times, and I’m pretty darn excited. Shell and I are going down to see her mother for Thanksgiving, and I realized that there was a Medieval Times not too far from her house. Thus, I encouraged them to go, and they both agreed. I just bought some cheap discount tickets for the three of us online, so it won’t be too pricey for a fantastic dinner and show.

I remember my first trip to the Medieval Times in NJ. I think it must have been part of our senior trip…either way, it was definitely a class trip. I really enjoyed the general atmosphere of it, and when I discovered that Shell had never been there, I was adamantĀ about us going. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to drag her with me when I saw how close we would be. I’m really looking forward to seeing some guys with swords hack at each other while enjoying a chicken dinner.

Our New BBQ Grill

I found out a few weeks ago that our apartment complex would allow us to own a grill if it was an electric one. Upon finding this out, we put one on our wedding registry, but didn’t receive it. So yesterday, after failing to find one in the stores, I ordered it off Amazon. I placed the order at 2:48pm, it was shipped by 6:34pm, and I received it today at 2:15pm. So I basically ordered a grill from Amazon, got free shipping, and had it delivered within under 24 hours of ordering it. Now that’s service!

So I spent under two hours assembling the grill. I’m not the most handy person in the world, and reading those instructions is sometimes a pain in the butt for me, but I stumbled through it, and I now have a beautiful grill to call my own. One of the things I have hated most about living in an apartment is that we weren’t allowed to have a grill, but this electric one, while not perfect, will go a long way in making me happier. I’m gonna break it in tonight with some grilled pork chops, and I’m going to make a apple chutney to go on top. Should be interesting indeed!

Getting Accustomed to Being Back in NY

I have to say that after two nights back in our apartment in NY, I am missing Florida already. Why? First off, there were no annoying cats in Florida! It was after 1am by the time we got home from the airport and went to bed on Monday. Sure enough, at 5:30am, the cats were waking us up by jumping around, climbing on things, and fighting. They also woke me up this morning. I slept so peacefully in Disney and now I have to deal with these jerks. I’m starting to question why I missed them in the first place!

The bed was also a big difference. We have a short queen bed, but our resort had a tall king size bed with lots of pillows. Shell described that experience as “sleeping on a bed of clouds.” It was a really comfortable bed, and I never had any trouble falling asleep, or staying asleep. Now that I’m back in our old bed, I’m not sleeping good already. Heck, I woke up at 7:15 this morning, and it’s Sunday!!! Read More »

Under the Weather

I woke up this morning feeling a little blah. As the day went on it got worse, and by the time I got home from work I was spent. It’s just a whole mishmosh of common symptoms such as a sore, dry throat, headache, and the general feeling of knowing you feel like crud and are sick. If anything, I’m glad it’s happening now, so that I will hopefully overcome this in time for the wedding, which is ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!

Spring Cleaning

Today was totally devoted to giving the apartment a long overdue cleaning. When I wasn’t working regularly, I ended up devoting a few hours once a week to cleaning the place. I guess that was my way of saying “I know I’m not bringing home any money right now, so the least I can do is be a house-husband.” Well, since I’ve been working for the past few weeks, the apartment hasn’t been cleaned since…probably about Easter. Thus it was due for a hard scrubbing.

It’s been a few hours now, and we are almost done. I’m just taking a quick blog break, then it’s back to vacuuming the place up. I’ve probably have enough cat hair in the vacuum to make another cat if we really wanted to, but two of the little devils is enough.

I know this was probably my most boring blog ever…sorry about that…
