The Lego company has long been putting out awesome sets based on popular franchises. I had plenty of the Star Wars sets back in the day, and the recent sets based on The Hobbit have been tugging at my heart strings. However, there was one franchise that had been neglected from the block builders until now…The Simpsons. That’s right, the family that went to Blockoland can now come to your home in Lego form!
So far the flagship set has been revealed, and it’s a doozy. It is a 2500+ piece set that depicts nothing less than 742 Evergreen Terrace, complete with the entire Simpson’s nuclear family…and stupid Flanders as well. All six characters look pretty awesome.
What makes the set even better isn’t just the inclusion of the main Simpsons, or their house as well, but the fact that the house actually opens up to reveal the individual rooms. That’s right…you will be able to place Bart in his bedroom, Marge in the kitchen, Lisa at the piano and Homer in the garage. Of course you will also be able to pop all the Simpsons on their iconic couch as they catch what’s playing on the tube. Yes, the individual rooms look really tiny and cramped, but the fact that Lego devoted this much detail to the set is nothing short of awesome.
Now for the three most important questions:
- When can I get it- The release date is set for this February
- Where can I get it- It’s a Lego exclusive, so you have to either find it at your local Lego store or purchase it off their online shop
- How much do I have to spend to get it- The MSRP is $199.99
That’s right…to get your hands on this set you will have to wait a month and then drop TWO HUNDRED BUCKS!!! Apparently this is an acceptable price when you add in the number of pieces plus the licensing fees, but that’s a bit too rich for my blood. Even if someone gave me $200, I’d rather spend it on some other stuff than a Lego set. As cool as this is, and as badly as I want it, I simply can’t rationalize paying that much for it.
On the plus side, there will be fourteen mini sets released alongside it, and while they haven’t been revealed yet it is a safe bet that they will be more within my price range. I’m curious to see what they come up with…I wouldn’t mind a Moe’s Bar with Moe, Barney and a panda bear, or the school bus with Otto and some kids. The other good news is that these sets will be easier to find, and will be available wherever Legos are sold, so Amazon, Wally World and the like are safe bets.
What sets would you like to see?
