I was watching TV last week, and saw a brief thirty-second teaser for NBC’s new show, The Cape. I had heard nothing about it before this, or until I watched the series premiere tonight, but that teaser had me sold. It looked like a solid super hero series, but with a darker, more serious undertone to it. After watching tonight’s two hour series premiere, I’m pretty happy with the show, and I look forward adding the series to the list of series I watch regularly.
As I said, the show has a more serious/realistic feel to it. It follows the life of Vince, a detective who is eventually framed for murder and then “killed” on television. However, Vince survives, and is taken in by a gang of bank robbers who are actually carnies (I don’t know what it is with these super hero shows and carnies these days…) Vince is trained by the different members where he perfects his melee fighting skills, as well as learns hypnotism and masters the art of escaping and creating illusions, much like David Copperfield. Vince is also trained to wield a special cape and uses it as a major form of combat, as he can whip it around and grab objects at a distance with it.

Have you ever wondered why I refer to myself as “BigBadBob”? Let me take you on a stroll down memory lane as I pry open my past for all to see, so that you may learn the origins of my name.
First off, I have always gone by “Rob”, and to this day I still do, aside. The name “Bob” first started out in high school, probably around 9th grade (which would be around ’97.) There was this guy on our bus…a huge biker/head banger who had asperations of becoming a ECW wrestler (he didn’t think WWF was hardcore enough for his tastes.) For whatever reason, he always called me “Bob.” The guy was ridiculous and such a joke, so my best friend Pete and I would always made fun of him (though not to his face, since he was two grade levels above us.) As time went on, Pete began to call me Bob. It started out as his way of making fun of me (which was a pretty light example of our humor, since I used to call him Queter), but over time he stuck with it, and it became what he called me. To this day, he and his family still refer to me as Bob. Read More »

I received a recent deal in which I could rent a second game from Gamefly for only a quarter. I’ll be getting in Alan Wake and Mafia II, both on the 360 (obviously for Alan Wake). I’ve heard plenty of good things about Alan Wake, and I really enjoyed the demo of Mafia II…so much so that I actually played through it twice (not something I usually do for demos.) Gamefly received Fable III the same day I upgraded, so both new games should be here tomorrow.
Now the question is, which one do I start with??? Either way it looks like Gears of War II will be put on hold yet again…

I had high praises for Fable II, and I couldn’t wait to get my dirty mits on the sequel, Fable III. I had to wait longer than I would have liked, since I had to choose between Fable III and Fallout: New Vegas (Fallout won), but I have finally received it from Gamefly. Fable III is definitely a step up and makes several improvements over Fable II, but at the same time there were some aspects of Fable II that were removed, and it really hurt the game. Still, if you enjoyed Fable II then there is no doubt that you will enjoy this next romp through the land of Albion. Also, since the game is a sequel, there will be several spoilers, so read at your own risk. Read More »

Ahh, the first “What Shell Said” of the new year…
I had just finished playing NHL ’11, and I went to wake up Shell to get her off the couch and into the bedroom. She had been complaining earlier that her feet were cold, so I said:
“Come on babes, let’s get your cold feet out of here.”
“NO, don’t put them out there!”
“Your feet?”
“Don’t put them there, put them in the kitchen on the table.”
“OK.”
“You did put the towels there right? And you folded them?”
“Yeah.”
“OK, good.”
She then got up and we went to bed.

I received an e-mail from Gamefly today explaining a new promotion. For twenty-five cents, I was able to upgrade my account to two games at a time for the next month. Seeing how my billing cycle ends on the 7th of each month, I assume the quarter charge was for today, so from tomorrow until February 7th I’ll be getting two games at a time, which is mighty sweet, especially with LittleBigPlanet 2 and Two Worlds II coming out over the next few weeks.
I just have to remember to downgrade to one game at a time before the 7th next month, but that’s what the wonders of gmail calendar are for!

For Christmas Steve gave me a Kidrobot Simpson’s figure. For those not familiar with it, there are a high-quality, small action figure that are sold in unmarked boxes. These special boxes mean you have no idea what you’re going to get…similar to the old school CCGs I used to play in high school. So they come in this black box, and upon opening the box the figure itself is wrapped up in a heavy-duty foil bag, so there is no way to cheat and see what you’re getting.
Once I took the foil bag out of the box, I tried rubbing over the face to see if I could tell who it was, but I couldn’t. Steve then gave it a whirl, and insisted he felt a hat, and thus he assumed it was Chief Wiggum. So it was quite the surprise when I opened the bag to reveal not Springfield’s Chief of Police, but rather his arch nemesis…Snake!

I’ve been wanting a second Rock Band guitar for quite some time now. It would be nice to have a spare in case my original one breaks, and I would also like to have two for when we have a couple of people over. I only like to play guitar/bass, so if someone else is over and wants to play guitar, I won’t really play anything else. So after New Years, I started scouring retailers and other online sites to find one, but I was sad to see that they just aren’t manufactured anymore, making them very difficult to find. Then one day I was on Amazon and came across one that looked like it was the same one I already had. The price was right too, and for $30 of my Amazon credit I had the guitar shipped to my apartment. We came back from Dinosaur BBQ tonight to find the package waiting outside the door, and I quickly took it inside and checked it out.

The one with the dark brown neck is my old one, and the one with the yellowish/white neck is the new one. Other than the color, the two guitars are identical, and both are Harmonix, which is good. Aside from the different neck color, I did notice some other differences while playing the new one. Read More »

I have been interested in getting the PlayStation Move for quite some time. I do like the Wii, but I was intrigued by the possibilities for the Move, particularly with the more accurate controller and the higher quality, HD graphics. However, at the price I was not about to buy it for myself. So I placed it on my Amazon Wish List, and I found out Christmas Day that my parents had purchased it for me. I already had the Eye, so all I asked for was the basic Move controller. After Christmas, I went to the PlayStation Store off of PSN and was happy to find that pretty much every Move-enabled game currently available had a demo. So I went ahead and downloaded all eight demos, and spent the next few days trying them all out. I want to share my thoughts on the demos for the games, but I’ll start with my initial view of the controller itself.

A pretty fun New Years Eve was had by all as we celebrated it at our apartment with four of our friends. There was waaay too much food, plenty of booze, and tons of fun.
After dinner we played a game called Creationary, which is basically Pictionary but with Legos instead of drawings. Then we broke out the Rock Band set and played Rock Band 2 and Beatles Rock Band until about 11:30.
After that we popped on Dick Clark’s New Years Rocking Eve and watched some crappy musical guests until the ball dropped. After that we took it easy and did some cleaning up and finally went to bed around 2.
All in all, it was a great time as we rang in the New Year with good friends.
