So I received a coupon in the mail as well as an e-mail yesterday from Verizon. It was saying that if I renewed my contract (which is due to happen in March 2011) and upgraded my phone now, I would receive an additional $50 off the price. I was pretty excited, as my BlackBerry is starting to look pretty beat up, and the new Droid phones have had me drooling. So I figured I would go in to the shop today and upgrade to the Droid.
I get there, and I give the clerk the letter/coupon I received in the mail. He’s looked over it and was confused by it since he hadn’t seen it yet. He gave it to his manager, and the manager tells me that this offer is only good online. So I went home and jumped online, and found that the phones were more expensive online than in the store…most of them over $150 more!
And just like that, my hopes and dreams were shattered. It will be nine more months until I can partake in the joy of Droid.

Dude… Try calling. If you tell them u saw such and such price at the store, they will probably honor the store price AND the coupon. Just say u can’t make it to the store and you are uncomfortable shopping online, or something like that. They are pretty good about things like that at VZW. Worth a shot anyway. At the very least you might be able to get them to note your account to honor an upgrade and then u can go back and get the store price. Also, does the coupon specify that its only good online? Because you could probably fight that too at the store if it doesn’t. They have a lot of freedom to make customers happy if you press it. They just won’t offer it to you unless you fuss about it.
Thanks for the advice! I called and got the phone cheaper than I would have in the store, with the coupon they sent me. Thanks again!!!
