Spring Cleaning

Today was totally devoted to giving the apartment a long overdue cleaning. When I wasn’t working regularly, I ended up devoting a few hours once a week to cleaning the place. I guess that was my way of saying “I know I’m not bringing home any money right now, so the least I can do is be a house-husband.” Well, since I’ve been working for the past few weeks, the apartment hasn’t been cleaned since…probably about Easter. Thus it was due for a hard scrubbing.

It’s been a few hours now, and we are almost done. I’m just taking a quick blog break, then it’s back to vacuuming the place up. I’ve probably have enough cat hair in the vacuum to make another cat if we really wanted to, but two of the little devils is enough.

I know this was probably my most boring blog ever…sorry about that…

Of Mafia! and Other Silly Spoof Flicks

I love myself stupid comedies, especially the ridiculously over-the-top ones. Some of my favorites are National Lampoons Loaded Weapon, Hot Shots Part Deux, Spaceballs, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. I have most of my favorites on DVD, but I was missing Mafia!, which is another favorite. Shell picked it up for me for my birthday, and we settled down to watch it tonight.

Man, I really love stupid, cheesy laughs. Mafia! has it all, and even throws in fart and barf jokes to really raise the immaturity bar. But what can I say…I love it! The end of the flick with the death for Barney the Dinosaur via an Eskimo harpoon is just sooo freakin classic!!!

If you love stupid movies, or the Godfather films, definitely give Mafia! a watch.

LBP_GH_COVERPS3OnlyOn10-1-R2-HIGH

LittleBigPlanet was one of the first games I bought for the PS3.I remember that soon after getting the system, Toys R Us had a buy three get one free sale, and I used that as an opportunity to stock up on some PS3 titles. I liked LBP in the beginning, but I remember eventually getting bored with it (plus I was stuck on a boss that I couldn’t get past, which was frustrating.) I never got into the level creation either, so eventually I sold the game off and put the credit towards Fallout 3.

Lately I’ve been missing it, and wanted to get back into it. So when I saw that the GOTY edition had hit the $30 Greatest Hit Collection, I was tempted to pick it up again. Then came my $25 gift card to Gamestop, and the day that Gamestop had a 10%off, free shipping online sale, so my gift card ended up paying for almost all the game (I think I had to put a dollar and change on my credit card.)

So now that I have the game, I’ve really been enjoying it. I got through the Metal Gear levels, which were fun. The game was fun in itself, but the addition of combat with the paint gun was a brilliant idea, yet still cute enough to fit the LBP environment. I also just picked up the Pirates of the Caribbean levels, but haven’t checked them out yet.

I’m also in the midst of making my own level. I’m a little rusty on the controls (because there is a lot to do in the game and a lot of information to remember when making your own level), so I’ll probably go through the tutorials again to refresh my memory. However, I have been enjoying playing around in it, as I love creating content in games (just like all the ridiculous CAWs I make in the WWE games.)

And last but not least, I’ve also started checking out some of the community levels. There were so many trophies I never received due to my avoidance of the online player-created levels, but now I’m feeling good about it and enjoying it. The game is a really fun game, and I’m mad at myself for getting frustrated with it and sending it on its way because I lost a lot of good play time that I could have had with it.

Plugging Along

Now that the bachelor party is over, it’s been a slow week thus far. Work has been lame, with work consisting of either mind-numbing boredom or intense madness. Today I was assigned the job of typing of people notes, which proved to be a difficult task. It’s quite hard to make sense of a person’s notes, especially when they are in-depth and quickly scribbled in no particular order.

I got to watch the second episode of America: The Story of Us. It was a pretty good episode devoted to the expansion and industrialization (to a degree) of America, which plant the seeds for the Civil War (which is next weeks episode, and I’m excited.) I loved the attention they gave to the Donner party and John Brown, though I was upset with the lack of Zebulon Pike. Still, it was good stuff indeed. I’ll definitely be picking up the DVD set at some point.

I finished reading The Hobbit today. I must have read that book over ten times throughout my life. It’s just such a simple, well-written fantasy story. Plus it’s relatively short, making it a quick read. I probably got through it within two weeks, and could only read at short intervals. I’m really hoping the new movie does the story more justice than the 70s cartoon movie did (though now I feel like watching it again…). Now I need something else to read. The only thing that makes sense is The Lord of the Rings, but that is such a huge undertaking…

Nothing else really going on. The weeks coming up will begin to get chock full of last minute wedding details and whatnot, so I’m definitely going to be taking any relaxation time where I can. I’m gonna try to get some gaming in tomorrow evening (around 6-7pm), and hopefully will be able to get my Resistance 2 co-op night on Friday.

Hope everyone else is running smoothly. Be good to your mother.

Geocaching Adventure #4: Central Park

So as I already mentioned, part of my bachelor party in NYC consisted of geocaching. Steve had told me prior to the trip to pack my GPS, so I assumed that was the plan, but I didn’t know where we were going. When we got to the city, he revealed that he had printed out a few geocache locations from the site. So on Sunday afternoon, when we had some down time, we headed to Central Park to see what we could find.

I still need work judging distance on my GPS, because I kept thinking it was closer, but kept forgetting that the screen was zoomed out, so everytime it looked like we were right on top of it, I had to remember to zoom in to reveal that it was actually further away. We ended up crossing the entire park since we got there via the wrong entrance. We eventually stumbled across it on a hill, in some grass. It was in an out of the way portion of the park, so there weren’t too many people around.

Survived my Bachelor Party

I had a blast this weekend at my bachelor party. As I said, I went into it not having any idea what we were up to. We ended up heading down to NYC for the weekend. We had a blast with plenty of good food, drinks, and friends. I headed down on Saturday with Steve and my cousin, then we met up with my brother-in-law for some afternoon drinks. Eventually we made it to an awesome BBQ place for dinner and met up with my high school friend. Later on my childhood friend from Long Island met up with us also, which was awesome.

One of the coolest things that happened was that we went to a comedy show at one point, and all of a sudden Jim Gaffigan comes on stage and starts doing stand-up. I turned to my friend and we’re both in shock, because it was this divey comedy place inside a childrens hospital or something, and he wasn’t even mentioned on the set list or anything. It was a hilarious surprise.

On Sunday Steve and I hit up some comic and video game stores, and then went and did a geocache in Central Park (I will post that separately.) After that, we headed home. It was a very fun weekend, and it was really nice outside (though I could say it was too hot for my taste.) I had a blast down there having drinks with my friends, and a good time was had by all.
