With my birthday coming up in a couple of days, the gifts are starting to roll in. One I received today was especially nifty, from my friend Steve. It is a hardcover comic collection of the Simpsons/Futurama Crossover Crisis. We had seen it in Boston when we were at PAX, and it looked pretty awesome. Now I have it here, and I can’t wait to get into it and read the craziness. I have read several Simpsons and Futurama comics, and they all tend to be done very well, so I am looking forward to this. I’ll probably write up another blog when I’m done with it.

So the Rangers Season is at an End…

It was a fantastic game. The Philadelphia Flyers played a tough, gritty game against the New York Rangers. The Flyers had a ton of shots on goal, kept the puck in the Rangers zone, and were successful in breaking up many of the Rangers plays. However, with all that offense, they were unable to get more than one goal past Ranger’s goalie Lundqvist, which allowed the Rangers to hold on until the shootout. I had complete faith in Lundqvist, but after 60 minutes of having to work his butt off to keep the puck out of his goal, he was exhausted, and not in top form. The Flyers were able to come out above the Rangers in the shootout, thus getting themselves the last open invite to the 2009-2010 playoffs while sending the Rangers packing.
It was a sad moment when that game ended. Lundqvist had played his heart out, and kept the team’s playoff dreams alive far longer than they should have. Unfortunately, just because you have an outstanding goalie, if you can’t get a few goals to give him some breathing room, then you are going to lose games, and that’s just what happened Sunday afternoon. As I sat in my living room shaking my head in disbelief, watching the Rangers leave the ice for the last time this season, I still couldn’t exactly wrap my head around it. They had played so well to get to where they were…a few weeks ago it looked impossible for them to get to the playoffs, and then last night they were so close they could taste it. However, they had pulled themselves together, and in their last ten games (including last night) they had gone 7-1-2, which is extremely great. It’s just a shame that it all had to end…
On a side note, I am not really as upset as I could have been, simply because the Rangers would have been in the eighth seed if they won, meaning they would have played the first seed, which is the Washington Capitals. Now I love the Rangers, and think Lundqvist is the best goalie in the league, but I don’t think the team they have now would have been successful in besting Washington in a best of seven series. Personally, my money is on Washington getting to the Stanley Cup finals, and I will be rooting for them the rest of the season. I just hope they have the chance to roll over the Penguins and their precious Crosby along the way…
The Rangers played a good season, and I can’t wait til October when the pre-season starts up again!
New Jobs All Around

Within the next two weeks, Shell and I will be starting new jobs. Granted, mine may not count since it is a temporary job as I work with a company for a project. The project is planned to take about a month, so it should be ending right before the wedding. The subbing was just too random and wasn’t generating enough income, so I had to go with something that would provide a nice 9-5, five days a week of steady income.
On the other hand, Shell just landed a sweet HR gig at one of the local banks. She will be doing recruiting and other HR stuff for the banks fourteen branches in the area. And like Ben Parker said, with great power comes great…moneys!!!
HDTV here I come!!!
I think congrats are in order to Shell and me. Bravo to us both. We are going to get some tasty Thai from Blue Spice to celebrate!!!
Rangers Almost There

With two games left, the Rangers are in 9th place with 84, and not in the playoff picture. However, their last two games are both against Philadelphia, who are in 7th place with 86 points. If the Rangers are able to fend off Phili, then they will be able to snag themselves a spot into the playoffs.
I really started watching hockey five years ago, and when since I’ve watched, the Rangers have always made it to the playoffs. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…the Rangers team plays with great inconsistency. They will always start the season off great, then slump down, then pick up only to fall down again, and by the time the last ten games or so of the season roll around they are able to bust their hump and barely squeak into the playoffs. Despite the fact that they never get far in the playoffs, I’m happy that they got in there, and enjoy watching the playoff games, hoping beyond hope that maybe they can somehow pull through,
So here I am today, with two games left, hoping beyond hope that they pull out two wins against the Flyers and prepare for the post-season.
My Top Three Non-Epic Saga Movies

Being the nerd that I am, it is a given that I am a huge Star Wars and Lord of the Rings fan, and definitely count them among my favorite movies of all time (well, as far as Star Wars goes, that refers to Episodes IV-VI, of course). However, despite how much I enjoy the Star Wars and Indiana Jones universes, I still do enjoy other films. Today I was thinking about what my top three were (aside from the crazy popular epic movies), and I think I widdled down the top three, which I will share in no particular order.
Clerks
This movie made me a fan of Kevin Smith years ago, before the days of Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. It’s definitely my favorite movie by him, and really does a great job showcasing what he does best: dialogue. Most of his really great movies don’t necessarily have a lot of action going on, but the conversations between characters really tell you all you need about them and who they are. He has a gift for this, and I wish I had the talent he does to have such great speech flow from the mouths of his characters. Clerks, with it’s simple filming and snappy, witty dialogue, really shows that you don’t need a huge amount of money and an all-star cast to make one of the greatest films of all time. Oh, and as a side note, I’m such a huge fan of Kevin Smith that I am not ashamed to say that I loved Jersey Girl!!! That movie got sooo underrated, and I hate Ben Affleck!
Cutting Down on Gaming Time
I plan on cutting back on gaming time over the next few days (and hopefully weeks) as I begin to devote time to a secret project. I hope all goes well…
Easter Morning

Shell and I woke up around 8, and soon after made our way to the kitchen to eat breakfast and give each other Easter presents. Every Easter that passed while we were dating, I always made Shell an Easter basket. I don’t know why I insist on doing something so childish, but I just love going out and finding a bunch of little things to put in her basket. The only thing that has changed over the years is that I am no longer allowed to get her stuffed animals for her basket, since she has so many from me with nowhere to put them. So this Easter, her basket contained:
- Tom Petty CD
- Dark Chocolate Bunny
- Fruit Slices (the candy, not actual fruit)
- Socks
- Hand Lotion
- Sanitizing Hand Lotion
- Coconut M&Ms
- M&Ms
- Starburst Jellybeans
- Mentos Gum
Have a Happy Easter!

Today was a pretty busy day of shopping and cooking for tomorrow’s festivities. Shell and I have been wanting to have a nice holiday dinner at our apartment for our families, and this year for Easter my mom was more than happy to agree (being an accountant, this is her busiest time of year and she didn’t want to be bothered with getting the house ready.) So Shell cooked up some Easter Bread today (which was very tasty) for breakfast tomorrow morning, and got everything else prepped for tomorrow’s dinner. Now it’s time to get ready to go to Easter Vigil mass…
We picked up the ham for dinner tomorrow, and Shell is also going to cook up asparagus, maple-glazed carrots, scalloped potatoes, and parmesan rolls for the rest of the meal. Cara is making up a meat pie and a wheat pie also, which is mighty delicious (particularly the meat pie.)
I’ll post more tomorrow with pics of the great food (especially the meat pie) so you can see what goes on in our Easter dinner. But all you really need to know is that it’s going to be a day packed with plenty of great food and wine!
I hope everyone has a Happy Easter, and has some good eats also!!!
Valkyria Chronicles on the Way

So my next game coming in from Gamefly will be Valkyria Chronicles. This has been the first time in a long time that I actually had a full Gamefly queue and didn’t really care what came in next. I’m looking forward to playing a nice RPG again, and hopefully it’s a little more tactical and challenging than Dragon Age and Sacred 2 have been. I played the demo a long time ago, and the mix of an RPG with guns and tanks was pretty sweet. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on it.
Wii First Impressions: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Yeah, I will admit that it has been awhile since I turned on the ol’ Wii. But once I picked up New Super Mario Bros. Wii, I had reason to go back to the white console. Mario Bros. Wii is genious, much like its DS counterpart, in that it brings back the simplicity of old-school Mario platformers with some new twists and gorgeous graphics to make a truly awesome and fun game.
The game’s story is nothing new, and even harkens back to the days of Super Mario 3…Princess Peach is kidnapped by Bowser’s kids (all the guys from Mario 3, along with Bowser Jr.), and it’s up to Mario and friends to save the day. I say “and friends” because one of the best features of Mario Bros. Wii is the addition of co-op…up to four players can take part in the game AT THE SAME TIME! So think old school Mario platformer, but with four buddies being able to play together (as Mario, Luigi, and two toads.) Now I’m not as big a fan of the inclusion of toads, and I think it would have been cooler if they threw in Wario and Waluigi, or didn’t have the Princess kidnapped so she could be a playable character. Also, if the characters all had unique abilities a la Mario 2, it would have been cool too. But in the end, I can’t complain about a game that allows four friends to go platforming together.
Bath Time for the Cats
With the family coming up for Easter this weekend, and me being off today, I took it upon myself to clean the house and get ready for them. I started the cleaning session with cleaning something that hadn’t been cleaned in a long time…the cats!
I had given Odin a very quick bath a few weeks ago, to remove the excess flea dirt he had on him. I didn’t use any shampoo (since we didn’t have anything that would be good for him), so I basically gave him a quick rinse. Today I gave him the full treatment, in that I rinsed him, lathered him up with some cat shampoo we recently bought, and then rinsed the soap out. He didn’t cry at all, but man was he slippery and was constantly trying to get away. Eventually I just held him up from his stomach and maneuvered him under the faucet, since that proved much quicker than trying to get him to stay still long enough for me to fill up a container of water and pour that on him.
1000 Trophies!!!

As of tonight, I have acquired 1,000 trophies across an abundance of PS3 games. I know it doesn’t really mean anything but bragging rights, so here you go. I have 1000 trophies. Haw haw!
They were not all fun and games to get, and while some of them were cheesy (pause the game for the first time, turn the game on), others were not so much (particularly getting that final Sacred 2 trophy, and Dr. Robotniks Lean Bean Machine from Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection), but all in all it is fun, and gives me some sense of accomplishment, especially my four platinum trophies.
The Wood Devil
Deep in the forests of the Northeast
Lives an incredibly horrible beast
At least ten feet tall it stands
And can lift a boulder in the palm of its hands
The body is covered in a short, coarse fur of gray
This creature is rarely seen by the light of day
It pierces the pitch night with its eyes of crimson red
The odor of the beast fills the forest with dread
But if you happen to hear an eerie howl at night
Know that the Wood Devil is watching, somewhere out of sight
