Ive been pretty darn excited for tonights season finale. I was hoping it would be a two-hour special, but it was only an hour. In the end, I was pretty pleased, and the preview for the next season takes the show in a whole new area.
I didnt exactly like the idea of Tracy getting to Claire and Noah so quickly and helping them out. I wasnt sure what would happen, but I didnt expect it to be Tracy. Plus, I dont know where she was, but she got there conveniently quick.
I do like the direction that Sylar is taking. Making him out to be a hero was pretty cool. However, I was pretty sure that his powers were locked away in his mind so that he couldnt access them, but he did when facing Doyle (the Puppeteer.) Im thinking that maybe he couldnt use them because he did not want to be tempted to abuse them, but when he needed them to do “good”, they were readily accessible. I was half-expecting Sylar to kill Doyle in the end, but he did not, which was pretty cool.
Samuel proved to be a big baby, finally losing his cool (and thus his control over his family) in the end. I dont know how Multiple Man got there, or why he was suddenly so willing to help. Maybe Matt pushed him to see the truth or something. Anywho, I wasnt expecting the final showdown to be Peter vs. Samuel, but it was decent. Could have been flashier. Many of the battles in the show could be flashier and more drawn out, but I guess its easier to do that in a movie as opposed to a TV series. Im glad they didnt kill Samuel off, and he could possibly return in the end. He has such a great power, and that makes him an awesome villain that should not be written off the show lightly.
I was wondering if Hiro was going to ever find Charlie (actually part of me even forgot she was missing in time), and when he does and is preparing to go back in time to “fix things”, I got mad and started yelling. Hiro is always trying to time travel to fix something, and it never amounts to nothing. In fact, he often ruins things rather than doing good. So I was relieved that Charlie did not want him doing that, and she was content with the life she had lived. Time for Hiro to move on…
The next season promises to be awesome. Titled “A Brave New World”, it is obvious it relates to Claire alerting the world to the presence of people with powers. I think it was a stupid thing for Claire to do, and I agree with Noahs views on the situation. However, I think it was a good direction for the show. Its high time that society took a larger role in their lives. Will there be a Registration Act? Will they be hunted down? Will they easily assimilate and be accepted into society? This course of action reminds me of the particular couple of episodes which took place in the future. In the future, people with powers were hunted. This is where badass Hiro came from (when he approaches Peter on the train), where Claire helps lead a government (or some other organized professional) team to hunt down people with powers, and Sylar is portrayed as a kindly stay at home dad.
All in all, it was a great season, and definitely lived up to the first season. Seasons three and four were mediocre, but the show has definitely picked back up. I like where the series will be going next season, and I hope its as good as this season has been.
