Why Do I Suck at FPS Games?

Its true, its true. One of the most popular genres on the market today are one of my least favorite. Not because they are not fun, but because I suck so badly at them. I love playing the single player campaigns on FPS’. I enjoyed shooting my way through the Medal of Honor series on the PS1 and PS2, and I rocked through the likes of Resistance, Bioshock, and Wolfenstein on my PS3.

However, my qualm is not with the single player campaigns. My problem is with multiplayer games, which is the meat of a FPS. I am really horrible at them. When I play against others online, Im lucky if I die less than ten times in a round and get one kill myself. I dont know what it is, but I dont have the proper training/skill to successfully play against others online. What got me thinking of all this was that I was playing the MAG Beta tonight, and I did so horribly. I seriously died eight times, and was lucky to get one kill.

The only FPS online game I ever really enjoyed was Resistance 2, but that was only the co-op missions, since you and a bunch of friends got together to take on the AI. The PS3 needs more FPS like that, where you can play through the campaign mode online, taking on the AI with other actual players. I really need to play these games more and get more experience…

i think it boils down to experience. shooting AI is a lot different than shooting other human players. whether you realize it or not, you hit AI a lot more because they’re more predictable and you know their patterns. it just takes experience to get better against other players. honestly, i still get my ass kicked at halo more than i kick ass. some of that is just luck of getting matched up with the right people too.

The thing about getting experience is that I get so frustrated while playing that I cant do so for more than two rounds at a time…

I’ve found that if I play a lot in a short time and then take a break altogether for a few days and play an rpg or something, that when I go back and play sometime later on I actually do a lot better.Whatever you learned from playing the few days before has had time to digest in your consciousness and becomes more habit then forced reaction. The only thing is that you have to keep playing regularly, followed by a 2-3 day breaks now and then to keep your skills sharp. My problem is that I just can’t play one genre of game at a time.Jack of all games, master of none
    :P

Hey , buddy, you’re not alone I suck, too!
I play MW 1 and 2 from time to time and feel like throwing my computer out the window when I die 10 times in a row without a single kill and my buddys rack up 20. Don’t know what it is, but I’ve been playing for years and still suck. That’s when I leave the genre for awhile and play Fallout 3 or Batman…………

It’s not only that I’m not good, I just don’t enjoy the competitive aspect. I would much rather meet up with some friends and team up against AI enemies in a co-op game as opposed to taking on other players in versus matches.
