Wii Review- Punch-Out

Little Mac is back for Punch-Out for the Wii. It plays very similarly to the NES Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out, minus the insanely difficult Tyson. I say this because while the controls can be used via waggling the Wiimote andNunchuck (a la Wii Sports Boxing), the game does not feel right unless you’re using the classic controls…that is, you turn the Wiimote on its side and use the 1 and 2 button as you would use the A and B button on a NES controller. This gives you a sense of nostalgia as you enter to ring to tangle with the classics like Glass Joe and King Hippo, as well as some new comers.

With Shell and her friend seeing AC/DC this weekend, I decided to head to my parents home to crash for the weekend and hang out with Steve. So I’ll be heading down tomorrow morning and coming back Sunday night.

My parents are not going to be around, so Im stuck dog-sitting. I’ll preoccupy myself with my PS3, DS, and some books and movies I’ll bring with me, for when Im not seeing Steve.

Should be a good weekend to hang out, get some gaming in, and chil.

How Cool Is Ferris Bueller?

The answer: very cool.
I remember the first time I saw the movie. I was in sixth grade at my junior high on Long Island, a year before my family moved. I had never heard of the movie, and when they showed it to the class one day, I asked myself “why is this movie about a ferris wheel?” I dont remember much of it from then, but I definitely grew to appreciate the film in my later years. Today was a lazy day for me, so what better movie when you feel like slacking off then Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?

Movie Review- Coraline

When the movie first hit theaters, I was interested in it. Its art style reminded me of Burton’s work with Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride. So I popped it on my Netflix queue, and we got it in pretty quick.

As I expected, the movie was odd, and kind of creepy. Its based on a children’s book by Neil Gaiman, although I did not know that since I had never read or heard of the book. Its follows the story of a young girl named Coraline, who moves along with her parents to a new home. Upon exploring the home, she finds a hidden door which leads her to some kind of other world, which is an odd alternate town of the one she is now living in.

Feeling Under the Weather

I went to bed last night feeling pretty lousy. I had a headache, was lightheaded, my throat was sore, and I had a pretty bad stomach ache. I didnt eat much of my dinner, and went to bed without dessert. This morning I awoke, and I was still feeling very lightheaded. So I ended up staying home and missing class.

I started my sick day by waking up sweating at 5:45, and not being able to fall back asleep. So I went out to the living room and laid down awake on the couch until 6:30, when Shell woke up. I ended up skipping breakfast, only eating some fruit. I played Resistance 2 for about an hour or so, and then spent the remainder of the morning watching the almost three hour movie Patton, about the U.S. WWII general.

My Medic Just Reached Level 30 in Resistance 2!!!

As the topic of the thread suggests, I finally maxed out my medic this morning. Ive been really rocking with him lately, getting first place in most matches due to my aggressive healing tactics. Also, ever since I unlocked the “saw blade gun” Ive been a lot more powerful and able to do more damage when no one is in need of health. Those saw blades rip right through Grims. Its so great.

But right now its time I started focusing on leveling up my other two characters. My Soldier is level 11, and my Spec Ops is level 9. Both will take a long time, because I dont play them as well as I play a Medic. But it will be fun to start focusing on the other classes, now that I finally maxed out one character.

Movie Review- Public Enemies

I enjoy gangster movies. One of my all-time favorites is The Untouchables, with my man Sean Connery. Man, thats a great flick. So when I saw they made a new one based on John Dillinger, and starred Johnny Depp, I was totally sold.

The movie was pretty awesome. The movie had that classy pre-WWII feel to it, with guys in awesome trench coats, bowler hats, and tommy guns. I dont know much about Dillinger in real life, but if the movie was even remotely based on truth, then he was freakin’ awesome!

Im pretty excited for the new Alice in Wonderland movie coming out next year. Tim Burton rarely does wrong, and with Depp involved it promises to be odd indeed. Check out the teaser trailer below to see for yourself.

At least its guaranteed to be better than the old TV show I used to watch where everyone rollerskated around Wonderland like a bunch of disco queens.

Craziness at DMV

I went to the DMV to get my license renewed. Not only was it expiring, but I still had my parents address on it, and my pic is still my original pic from when I was 16 (over 10 years ago!!!) So needless to say, I was on waiting forever on the clerk line, got the paperwork, filled it out, and then went to wait forever on the other line.

Anywho, the point of this is to bring up a crazy lady I saw. This lady was two people in front of me, and was handing in her old plates. When she did, the lady at the counter told her it was a $1 charge. ONE DOLLAR! Now this lady started flipping out, shouting “WHY THE HELL SHOULD I PAY A DOLLAR I AINT PAYIN’ YOU NO DOLLAR! I NEVER HAD TO PAY A DOLLAR BEFORE!!!”

The clerk calmly said “Thats how it always is, and you should have paid it last time.” Well that lady cursed some more, snagged her plate, and stormed out.

I would hate to see what she would do when she has to pay a toll to cross a bridge. Those things cost a lot more than $1…

Cronkite Remembers

Well, in the midst of getting ready to go to Phili and everything last weekend, I had totally missed the news that Walter Cronkite had passed away. So when I was flipping through the channels this morning, I happened upon the Discovery Channel, which was airing the eight-part mini-series “Cronkite Remembers”. What made me keep it on was when I noticed that it said that he had passed in 2009. I ran to the computer and looked it up to see that he had just passed. I was initially infuriated. I had been watching CNN for awhile now while going to the gym, and all I see in regards to deceased people are Michael Jackson and the Taco Bell dog. I couldnt believe that I was so in the dark over Cronkite’s death.

Resistance 2 Medic only Mission

I popped the game in today, and instead of doing the random players assignment (where you say “play now” and the game lumps you into a quick-play mission with seven other guys), I decided to find and join a room. While going down the list, I came across a “Medics only” room. Now, there is no way to enforce this, but the host wanted everyone who joined to be a medic. I love being a medic, so I decided to join.

There were four of us initially the first time through, and it was fun. For starters, its hard to die since everyone has their Phoenix guns equipped. Thus, you are constantly healing yourself through the Phoenix’s gun, but you can easily heal a squad mate who is in dire need as well. And if you did happen to die, you didnt have to wait very long, since the medics have the fastest revival rate. Of course, relying only on Phoenix guns has its disadvantages.

Last Certification Test Tomorrow

Tomorrow morning, at 7:30 am, I will be sitting in on my final certification exam. So long as I pass this test, and graduate in December, I will be fully certified to teach in New York state, and since NY has the most expansive and rigourous teaching program in the country, I’ll also be set to teach out of state whenever I move.

The test will be the hardest. The last one was a cake walk, and was kind of about teaching practices/theories. This one is the content one, so I will be tested on all course work from grades 7-12. That means U.S. History, World History and Cultures, Economics, and U.S. Government.

My Medic Reached Level 26 in Resistance 2

Back in March I hit 20, and as of today Im 26. I played for a few hours this afternoon, and actually leveled twice. I just unlocked the final weapon upgrade for the medic, and in four more levels I’ll be able to get his last armor/gear. My latest weapon is the most powerful, so I’ll be able to do more damage with my Phoenix gun, and be able to launch health further to my allies.

The medic is so awesome because he gets mad experience without having to kill anything. A successful medic hangs in the back, attacking only when every else in the squad has low health. Once someone takes even one hit, you can heal them and get experience. You have these stupid medics who run to the front line and try to get kills with the Phoenix gun, and these are the jokers who get like 4000 xp for the match and end up in last place. I played about six matches today, and was in first place for most of them (ahead of the soldiers and spec ops players too). Its all about playing it smart from the back lines, and making healing a priority over killing. I know it sounds odd for a FPS, but its the best way to get your medic experience so that he can reach the level cap.

More About my Awesome Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330

So Ive had my phone for a week now, and so far I am totally loving it. For one thing, I am no as bored as I used to be, because I can talk to Shell and Steve from my phone wherever I am, whether its at school during class breaks, while on line at some store, or while Im just in the living room playing PS3. Its quite nifty indeed.

Its already proven its worth. While in Phili, Shell got a blister on her foot. Thanks to my phone, we were able to determine how to take care of the blister right there. Shell was ready to pull the skin from the blister off, but when I looked it up online, it said that pulling the skin off could lead to infection. So I guess you could say that the Blackberry saved Shell’s foot.

Historic Philadelphia

So this blog will go into more detail on the historical sights we saw while in Phili.

The first place we visited was the Military Museum at New Hall. I had never heard of it, and was afraid to go in at first because it was a very small building with only one small sign on the door. But we went in, and saw it was a museum. The museum was dedicated to the U.S. Marines, following their history from the American Revolution to the present day. There were some cool weapons like swords and guns from the Revolution, and there was also a piece of an old wooden U.S. ship on display, along with some other stuff. The ranger who was on duty was an ex-Marine, and was talking to a couple of guys who I guess were also ex-Marines or Army.

Whale Wars Sucks

Let me start out by saying this: I love animals. The last thing I want to see is a bunch of whales getting hunted. I dont like poachers, and I hope they all burn in hell.

Having said that, I just have to say how much I dislike the show Whale Wars. Its about a guy and his crew who go sailing around chasing after Japanese whaling boats. I had never watched it until last week, and after watching one episode, I will never watch it again, or say anything supportive.

My problem is this: when they come upon the whaling ships, they send out some of the crew in smaller boats. This crew then tries to disable the Japanese boats by either trying to break their motor or by throwing glass bottles full of chemicals onto the deck of the whaling boat. So here’s my thing:

PS3 Review: X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Uncaged Edition)

I’ve been waiting to get my hands on this game for awhile, and Gamefly finally delivered. The game is loosely based on the movie, but in many ways, is actually better. While the movie cut back on the violence and such, since it was a PG-13 movie and all, the game did nothing of the sort. It was Wolverine at his savage best- mutilating enemies in a wide variety of ways!

The game follows the basic plot of the movie, with Wolverine being tricked into returning to Stryker so that his regen ability can be used to power up Deadpool. The game goes back and forth across the time when Wolverine and the rest of the squad are in Africa looking for adamantium, and then it goes to Wolverine getting the adamantium skeleton and then going on a rampage looking for Sabertooth. Across the game you come across some bosses from the movie such as Sabertooth, Gambit, Deadpool, Blob, and Agent Zero (the guy with the accurate shot).

Book Review- Resistance: Gathering Storm

resistance-gathering-storm1

I just finished reading Resistance: Gathering Storm. I originally picked up the book because it tells the story of what happens between Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2, both video games for the PS3. I was really interested in this because the games themselves offer little transition.

For those not familiar with the storyline, Resistance takes place in the 1950s, in an alternate history in which Nazi Germany never emerged, and there was no WWII. Instead, in the 1940s, Russia suddenly goes into a cone of silence, and nothing gets in or out. Most people assume there is a power struggle going on or something. Then in the early 1950s, the truth becomes known as swarms of the alien race known as Chimera rampage across Russia and quickly overtake all of Europe. Soon, only Britain remains in the fight, and eventually the U.S. sends over some troops to try and help them push the invading Chimera back.

My Trip to Philadelphia

Shell and I have been wanting to take a vacation for awhile. We eventually decided that we should take a weekend to go to Philadelphia. I wanted to go for the historical attractions, and Shell wanted a traditional cheesesteak. So we went this weekend.

We left Saturday morning, so that we would get to Phili around lunchtime, which we did. Our first stop was Pat’s, which is the “home of the first cheesesteak.” We had seen it originally about a year or so ago on the Food Network, and after Shell did some research, she determined that Pats was seen as the best in the city. We got there, and the line was nuts, as was the small eating area. We ended up being one of the lucky ones who found some counter space, and were able to put our food on there as we stood and ate. The cheesesteak was pretty good. We both got it with cheese whiz, peppers, and onions. It was very tasty, and very messy. There was cheesy, greasy goodness dripping everywhere. Shell was happy to take her first bite of a cheesesteak right out of Phili.
