Is this a dream come true, or some hellish nightmare?! I mean, seriously, Im excited, yet nervous, about eating a potato chip that tastes like ribs. I understand BBQ potato chips (even though Im not a fan), but I cant see the “rib” part of it. Does the chip taste like a meaty morsel? Or is it a pukish freak of nature, an abomination to all chip-kind? I dont know. I would like to know.

Summer Session One Update
I have two tests today. My Anthropology test will be a cake walk. All her tests are simply defining fifteen vocabulary terms, so thats no sweat.
I also have my Adolescent Development test today, and that one will be a bitch. The test is eighty multiple-choice questions, which is a bit rough. Also, you cant take notes from her, because she doesnt lecture…she babbles. She is constantly jumping from topic to topic mid-sentence, and never finishes a full thought. Thus, her tests prove near impossible.
But the good news is that after this week, theres only two weeks left, and then I start the next session, which is only one class, so it wont be as bad.
KFC= Kitchen Fresh Chicken

After class I called Shell to tell her I was leaving, and she said that she was feeling under the weather and didnt want to cook. I thought, and then said “what if I pick up some grilled chicken from KFC?” My parents have had it and loved it, and Ive been wanting to give it a whirl. Shell agreed, so I picked up a family pack on the way home. It was $14, which was reasonable since their individual meals cost $6-7 each. The meal came with six pieces of chicken (2 drumsticks, 2 thighs, 1 wing, and 1 breast), one large side (we got the mashed potatoes and gravy) and three biscuits.
We both enjoyed it. I was really impressed with the taste of the chicken. It is really good, and fulfills whatever craving I have for fried chicken. The pieces are a little smaller than fried chicken would be, so that was one of the only drawbacks. The chicken was nice and moist (even the breast), and overall very tasty. I would go back again.
I think it was a smart move on KFC’s part. With only selling fried chicken, it was kind of being seen as only an “unhealthy place” to eat. But this grilled chicken definitely makes you feel less guilty eating there, and Im sure it will draw in a larger customer base.
New Wardrobe

I havent bought new clothes in YEARS. Thus, most of my wardrobe consists of old, faded graphic tees. Many of these are nerdy, as they feature either video games, Simpsons, Family Guy, super heroes, or some random stupid saying, such as “I am One Step Closer to World Domination” and my custom Star Wars shirt “You’ll Pay the Price for Your Lack of Vision.” Needless to say, between the old clothes and my coming on in age, it was high time for a new wardrobe.
I hit the mall yesterday with absolutely no results. Clothing is a lot different today then it used to be. First off, the clothing sizes are all different. Everything is now “athletic fit” or “classic fit”, which means the clothes run shorter and tighter, and are of a thinner material. Not for nothing, but I would call this a “gay fit.”
Also, the style of clothes are all out of whack. There are still plenty of stupid, cartoony, nerdy graphic tees, but I wanted to stear clear of that. Thus, I was limited to basically no tees at all, as they were all either nerdy tees or some crazy rapper tees, with all the squigglys and such all over the place.
So all in all, I ended up settling on an entirely new look, consisting mostly of polos. Its a classy look, and I guess I feel more “mature” in it. I just dont want to be the 27-year old guy in class who is wearing the “20 Reasons Why I like Video Games” t-shirt…
Stanley Cup Final Most-Watched Show
Tagged as crosby, detroit redwings, hockey, malkin, national hockey league, nbc, nhl, pittsburg penguins, rangers, spike, versus
I just found an article which pretty much states that the Stanley Cup final (from last Friday night) was the most-watched show that night. Thats refreshing to hear. I really do wish hockey was more popular here in the U.S. Its such a pain in the ass to find anything NHL-related in stores, such as clothing and other stuff. And when you do find it, its expensive as heck. For example, my Rangers jersey is a plain blank jersey (no name or number on it), and it cost me something like $90. Now you can go to Wal-Mart and find MLB and NFL player jerseys (with the player’s name and number) for like $20-30. Plus there is always a sickening over-abundance of MLB and NFL t-shirts in stores. I wish I was a Yankees fan so that I could buy some new clothes…
Come on America. Hockey is the sport to watch. Its more exciting to watch hockey than to watch baseball and football. Plus hockey is the only sport where you can really “watch your buddy’s back” by being an enforcer. Fighting is expected and accepting in the NHL, as a way of keeping the other team in line. If a baseball player was to do that, he would miss like ten games and pay thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines.
So come on, wake up and smell the ice. Hockey is far more entertaining than any other pro-sport in America, hands down.
Ghostbusters is on the Way!!!
Well my plan worked. I sent Far Cry in about two weeks ago, and then removed all games from my Gamefly queue except Ghostbusters. The plan worked…I came home from class today to find an awesome e-mail in my inbox informing me that I would be busting ghosts in about two days.
Needless to say, Im excited. I’ll have a review later this week (probably Friday) after I get to play it some.

PS3 Review- Gunstar Heroes (PSN)
Tagged as broken, co-op, Gunstar Heroes, online, platformer, PlayStation 3, PS3, ps3 review, PSN, psn review
Within the past few weeks, Sony has been very awesome in its release of PSN titles, many of which are older titles. I already talked about how I snagged FFVII, and Steve had gone off and gotten MK2 and Resident Evil. Well this week I picked up the newest remake- Gunstar Heroes, which is a remake of a Sega Genesis game that for some reason I never played, but should have.
The game is a very basic platform side scrolling shooter. Very similar to Contra from the NES, you basically run forward firing guns at an overwhelming number of enemies. Like Contra, you can collect powerups to give you better guns (faster firing, spread shot, etc.) Also like Contra, you can have a buddy play along side you. However, UNLIKE Contra, you actually have a health meter, so one shot does not totally destroy you. That was one of the most frustrating things about playing Contra, and I still feel that way today if I go to play it.
The graphics are very colorful and eye-catching, and I liked the look of it. The controls were very basic, as either the directional pad or the left analog (I preferred the d-pad) are used to move, x jumps, and square or circle fires your gun. Very simple to pick up and play.
One of the most interesting and enticing reasons as to why I bought Gunstar Heroes was for the online play. I like having simple, quick, and easy basic games to play online. However, on Friday morning and Steve and I went to play, I was disgusted to find that we couldnt get a connection going to start a game. I was very disheartened by this, and initially thought my DNS error was acting up again. After searching on the internet, I found that EVERYONE was encountering similar problems for the PSN version (I didnt look to see of similar things happened on the 360). All I know is that this is a big problem, and they need to patch it, pronto.
The gameplay was a lot of fun. Its fast and intense, and the boss battles are a blast. If only they would fix that online issue, it would be a solid game and a must-have.
Rangers Will Win It Thanks to the “Call of Staal”
Tagged as assist, call of staal, carolina hurricanes, Eric Staal, goal, hockey, Jordan Staal, Marc Staal, new york rangers, nhl, pittsburgh penguins, Staal, stanley cup
So one good thing came from Pittsburgh winning the Cup…it goes to prove that the Rangers will be winning the Cup within the next three years. Why do I make such a prediction? Let’s just say its the “Call of Staal.”
In 2005-2006 the Carolina Hurricanes won the Cup. One of their key players is Eric Staal, the eldest (and most skilled) Staal brother.
This year, in 2008-2009 the Pens won. Jordan Staal is one of their key players as well, and is the second-eldest son.
The third-eldest son also plays in the NHL. Marc Staal plays for who else, but the New York Rangers.
So given this information, I believe there is a direct correlation between the Staals and the Stanley Cup. Seeing how there was a three-season between Eric and Jordan receiving the Cup, I believe there will be another three-year gap, after which Marc’s team will be snagging the Cup. So long as the Rangers hold onto Marc (which they should since he is a very solid defenseman), the boys in blue will be bringing the Cup home to NY in 2012. Good stuff.
The Stanley Cup Chumps
Tagged as crosby, detroit redwings, disappointment, fleury, malkin, national hockey league, nhl, pittsburgh penguins, sad, stanley cup
So Pittsburgh won the Cup. They beat Detroit in seven games. The hockey season is officially at an end, and I can now begin to re-root for the Rangers for the 2009-2010 season.
It was a great game, no doubt. Detroit should have won, and they had a lot of great shots and scoring opportunities. But the reason the Pens won wasnt because Crosby is so awesome (which hes not), but because Fleury happened to be on fire last night. Ive seen it in many games, where for some reason, the goalie for that night is on fire, as if he is being guided by the Force, and is untouchable. Thats how Fleury was last night…unstoppable. Sad, but I give him credit. I dont give Crosby a shit, but I respect Fleury, and I’ll say he won it for the team.
So the Pens are the champs this year, and Crosby has yet another bout of air with which to inflate himself. I saw a commerical during the game, comparing Crosby to Mario Lemuix. Not for nothing, but I think its just a little too soon to be making that comparisson. Just ridiculous.
First Certification Test Tomorrow
So tomorrow morning at 7:00am I’ll be on my way to take the ATS-W, which is the first part of the tests I need to take to get my teaching certification in NYS. This test is about basic teaching methods and philosophy and that kind of thing, so it should be no problem.
I take the second part in July which is the “content” portion, and will cover 7-12th grade material, which is American history, world history, government, and economics.
Overheard at Home
Me- “Hey, you’re phone is ringing. How can you not hear that?”
Shell- “I only have one shoe on.”

PS3 Demo Review- Heavy Weapon- Atomic Tank
Tagged as big bad bob, bigbadbob, demo, PS3, ps3 review, PSN, psn review, shooter, tank, video games
Wow…this game blew me away. Im considering purchasing it off PSN.
Its a very simple, bright, brilliant game. You play as a tank, and you are at the bottom of the screen. You use the left analog to move back and forth (sidescrolling only) and the right analog to fire the tanks guns. Basically you just fire up at enemy planes that fly over you showering you with rockets and missiles and other stuff. As you go, you can unlock powerups to get bigger or faster guns or a shield, and you can also use points gained after each level to upgrade you main weapon by adding a laser or missiles to the tanks primary shot.
Visually, the game rocks. Its sharp and colorful, and looks great on screen. There are 19 levels to play through, but also a few different modes (which I couldnt check out on the demo) as well as online play. Like I said, Im tempted to pick this game up because its a load of fun. But I already snagged FF7 last week and Gunstar Heroes this week, so Im gonna pass this one up for now. But Im sure I’ll be tempted to pick it up in the future. The demo is totally worth the time to check out.
PS3 Demo Review- Armored Core 4
The game has you in a giant mech suit. The game starts with a nice in-depth tutorial on the controls, which is good because the controls take some getting used to. The mech has three weapons (right hand, left hand, and shoulder) which can be switched out for different weapons while in combat. Also, there are three different types of drives, which are basically turbos. The main one gives you a small speed boost while also allowing you to fly. The second is a short, very fast burst of speed. The third is an insane burst of speed.
Combat is pretty basic. You use the right analog to move the sight on the screen to a target, then fire away. You also have an option to auto-lock, which I always like.
The graphics were sub-par. I expected more from a PS3 game. Of course, this is the demo, so I dont know how the final version will look. Based on the demo, I think the game warrants a spot on my Gamefly queue.
I’M FREE!!!

Its true, its true. I have thrown off the oppressive shackles of the corporate chain restaurant. No longer will I run back and forth for a $1 per person tip. No more will I burn my hands, cut my hands, bang my hands, or in any other way cause bodily harm to my hands. Farewell to the nasty black button-down shirt stained with the sauce of marinara and bbq, goodbye to the black khaki pants stained with bleach, and so long to the black slip-resistant shoes that were covered in God-only knows…
In case you’re missing the point, I have left Applebees.
Why did I quit my job? Well for starters, the money was no longer worth it. I was available four days a week (due to school classes), but was only scheduled two. One of those days tended to be Saturday mornings, in which I would bring home $14 a day since it was slow and they would cut the serving staff down after an hour of being there. So I was missing out on sweet weekend plans because I had to drive to work to make $14. Lame.
Also, I just plain didnt like the job. Ive been working the restaurant industry on and off for the past 11 years (between Ponderosa, Fridays, Ponderosa, and Applebees). Its tough, its dirty, its fast-paced…all things I had grown tired of. Enough was enough, and it was time for a change.
So I came into some alternative mode of cash, which comes out to more than I would have made working for Applebees for six months, so I decided I no longer had to work, so I quit. I put in my two weeks notice, but I guess management wasnt happy about that, because they turned it into a one-week notice and never scheduled me again. But Im not complaining!!!
So now that I have no job, theres a ton of things I plan on doing this summer on the time, such as:
- See my family for Fathers Day
- See my family (and fireworks) for Independence Day
- Weekend trip to Philiadelphia
- Day trips to local landmarks (historical and non-historical)
- Visit Cara for the weekend in Brooklyn
- Visit cousins in New Hampshire
- Sell a bunch of my crap on ebay
Since Im not working, I can actually see my family again, and plan weekend activities. Im sure I’ll be doing other fun stuff as time goes on. I also have some not-so-fun stuff to do this summer, such as purchase books for the Fall semester (I need to purchase ten books that are out of print) and take my two certification tests so that I can be certified by graduation in December. All in all, I think it will be a great summer now.
