Tropic Thunder

While I didnt think that Tropic Thunder was on the same level of hilarity that Step Brothers or Pineapple Express were on, it was still decent, with a large number of laughs.

As always, I still enjoy Ben Stiller, especially when he plays an idiot. Jack Black was funny, but I dont think he was given as much attention as the other actors, so his character was not as developed or as funny. Robert Downey Jr. was pretty ridiculous playing a black man.

The story was pretty good. I like a good spoof, and this movie was somewhat of a spoof. What I enjoyed most was the fake “trailers” at the beginning of the movie. Stiller, Black, and Downey all play actors in a war movie, so before the movie each one made a fake trailer, which was ridiculous. It was by far the best part of the movie.

As for the movie itself, as I said, it was funny, and it was good, but I laughed a lot more at Step Brothers and Pineapple Express. I still recommend seeing it, because it is a good, funny movie. Just see Step Brothers and Pineapple Express first.

Oh my God, I am such a huge Seth Rogen fan, and this movie continued his streak of awesomeness. I think Rogen is ridiculously hilarious, because hes a different type of funny. Hes more a “quiet” funny if you ask me, where he doesnt come full-out comedic, but its still there. I dont know how to explain it, and I probably sound like an idiot, but take my word for it: anything Rogen is in is golden.

The movie is so ridiculous, from beginning to end. Of course Rogen is awesome, and so is Franco. The two of them are hilarious. Its definitely a “stoner movie”, on the same page as Half-Baked. But like Half-Baked, its a must-see comedy.

I know its a bit late, but I just wanted to say that if you haven’t seen this movie yet, then see it. Ferrill and Reily are both awesome.

Ferrill redeems himself from Semi-Pro, which was horrible. Reilly continued being awesome from Dewey Cox. Both actors did an excellent job of acting exactly like spoiled 40-year old single children who still lived at home. It was very comical. The ending was also good, because Ive noticed that often with comedy movies, the ending sucks, because only the “problem” or “issue” is whats funny. But this movie was non-stop laughs from beginning to end. They have some real good chemistry together.

I noticed last night that Loki eats a lot. A heck of a lot. It was then that I realized how big he has gotten since we got him.

So I took some more up-to-date pics of him and then put him on a diet. Fat butt.

Its a sad day…

Well, as of right now, my Heroscape collection is going for $76 on ebay…

I really didnt want to sell it, but didnt see the point in keeping it. First off, I never played it. Steve and I only played it like twice, and I think that was the most action that game ever got. It was really sad, because I really enjoyed the game. I loved the collectivity, the gameplay, the strategy…everything about it. But it just didn’t make sense to keep it in a box in my closet, knowing I would never play it again. I need some nerdier friends…

Secondly, now that Im in grad school, times are hard. And my Heroscape collection will bring in a nice chunk of change. So while Im very sad about selling it off, at the same time I look forward to raking in the dough.

The Force is not with the new Clone Wars movie

So I anticipated the Star Wars: Clone Wars movie. Why? I dont know. Its like each new Star Wars movie was more disappointing than the last. Then there was the fact that it was animated. So why did I still look forward to it?

I had some faith remaining due to the Clone Wars mini series that appeared on Cartoon Network. That was done very well, and I had little to belittle it about. But this new movie was just…horrible, and I regretted even seeing it.

Two things in particular really pissed me off. The first was Jabba’s son, the “Huttling”. A Huttling should never, EVER have been used in the Star Wars universe. I really, really hated it. See the movie and you’ll see why.

I also hate how Lucas insists on making Battle Droids retarded. It seems in each movie that they get stupider and stupider. In this movie, they were just plain retarded. Its like they dont have artificial intelligence, but artificial UNintelligence. Its as if the Battle Droids were manufactured with this stupidity. It makes no freakin sense whatsoever.

As usual, a general concern to moan and groan were the forced “laughs” that were put into the movie. The Battle Droids were of course a main factor in this, but there were other really annoying forced jokes which just made the movie horrible. One of the problems is that these movies are being made more and more focused towards children, and I guess children’s tastes have changed in the last 20 years. Its so sad…

So yeah, the movie was horrible. However, I will still be checking out the television series, in the hopes that it can somehow miraculously redeem the movie. But I dont expect to last more than two episodes.

Rob’s Miis

I added a new page titled “Rob’s Miis”. As Steve can tell you, I love to waste time by creating pointless stuff in video games, and the Miis are no different. I have many, from family and friends to fictional characters to just plain weird-looking things.

Every Mii I post here is my own, made from scratch. The only exceptions are “Nick”, which was made by Nick, and “Shell” and “Zap”, which were made by Shell.

You may see a few gaps, but thats because I have not yet transferred all the Miis I want from the Wii to my camera. Im working on it though.

First Classes

Well I had two classes today…my history class and my education class that focuses on social studies.

The history class should be ok. The Professor grades based on four tests and a research paper, but it is smaller than my previous one, so it shouldn’t be bad. The Professor is some old guy whos been teaching since the 50s, and is very hard to hear or understand. You just catch this and that. The odd thing about the class is that its actually two classes in one…its Hist. 455 and Hist. 555. Im taking the 555, which is for graduate students, and 455 is for undergrads. The difference is that the undergrads read one less book, and they write a shorter research paper. I just thought it was weird that the same class was taught to both student classes.

My Social Studies class should be interesting. Though what I dont like is that I have to prepare a 20-minute oral presentation for next week. I didnt expect to get an insane assignment like that in the first week of school. This Professor seems like a cool guy.

I’ll write about the other classes as I take them.

Wii- Mario Kart Wii Review

First and foremost, let me put this out there: If you own a Wii, you should own this game.

Mario Kart is one of the Wiis best single and multi-player games. The controls using the Wiimote are simple and easy for anyone to pick up. You hold the Wiimote sideways, then push 2 for the gas and the directional to throw a weapon. Its as easy as that. Theres a lot to do in the single player mode. For example, there are eight “courses”, and each course has four tracks to race through. So thats 32 different tracks the game offers. Now in single player, you have to race through all eight courses three different (50cc,100cc, and 150cc) and place at least 3rd in the end. Doing this unlocks additional characters and karts, as well as other stuff.

Multiplayer is a lot of fun too. When playing against friends on the same console, its a good time. The split screen isnt too bad, and you can still see whats going on. When you take the game online, however, its a totally different experience. For starters, lets say you and your friend want to race online. So you log onto the games online screen and find your friend. It isnt that hard. However, Nintendo made it so that you and a friend could not race against strangers together. Thus, you and your friend cannot join in a public race, you have to create a special room and invite other friends to race. Now lets say that none of your other friends are around (or that you have no other friends for this game), then there will only be you and your friend racing. Just two characters. Nintendo didnt even give an option to fill the race with AI characters. So its just your guy and your friends guy driving around. Not a whole lot of fun. As far as the WiFi for the game goes, Nintendo dropped the ball.

So yeah, Mario Kart is a lot of fun…if you play it by yourself or with friends at home. Its when you go online, and only then, that you will be disappointed. But this game is still one of the best for the Wii, and everyone should own a copy.

Fantasy Hockey

I played a public league with Yahoo’s Fantasy Hockey last season, and it kinda sucked. In the end, only a few of us kept up with it, so some of the awesome players were trapped on teams that were run by losers who dropped out. It was sad.

This year I’ll be playing with Nate and a bunch of other Oneontaites, which will be good. These guys take all their sports seriously, including hockey, so it will be real nice to be able to play against some other guys who know what they are doing and will not drop out in the middle of the season.

Yahoo says the sign up starts in late August, which to me means any day now. Im excited.

Snagging Heroes Season Two

So as I have mentioned in the past, NBC really pissed me off with its refusal to allow me to ever watch the second season of Heroes, since it pulled the first 1/2 of the season off the website before the DVD was released.

But tomorrow it hits the shelves, and I will indeed be there to snag it.

In other DVD news, Simpsons Season 11 will FINALLY be released October 6. I say finally because Fox has been releasing the DVDs two seasons a year; once in August and once in December. But last December, the Simpsons Movie was released, so no Season 11. Then August came and went, and still no Season 11. I was getting scared, but then I noticed on amazon that it is announced for an October 6th release. Yay!

Wii- Chicken Shoot Review

I figured I’d take the time to talk about the worst Wii game ever…Chicken Shoot.

I love arcade shooters. I think the Wii was built for arcade shooters. But Chicken Shoot just…well, it just sucks. You would think that playing a game where you shoot up chickens could be fun. Well, its not. Far from it. Its like torture.

Basically, you fire away at chickens for points. The graphics are cartoony, bright, and decent, but its the gameplay that kills this game. Its just so horrible. First off, as you shoot chickens they go away, but come back soon. So its like you keep hitting the same targets. Also, the chickens cannot attack you, so there is no challenge, and no way for you to lose. And the worst part…there are only five levels. So the game is over faster than a one night stand, and you’re sitting there in a daze, wondering what the hell just happened.

Chicken Shoot will go down in history as one of the Wiis worst games. The game can barely be called a game, with its lack of levels, controls, and even a challenge. If you see this game, just break it, and save some stupid smuck the mistake of thinking it sounds good and picking it up for himself. God will love you then.

Wii- Mario Strikers Charged Review

I think its safe to say that Strikers my favorite game to play online. It was the first Wii game to have online play, and has remained the easiest one to connect and play with over the internet.

Strikers is a soccer game using characters from Super Mario Bros. You choose a team captain (a main character like Mario, Bowser, or Donkey Kong) and then three side kicks (such as Shy Guys, Hammer Bros, or Boo). You then run around the soccer field, throw power-ups and weapons around, and try to score a goal. Each character has their own special “super move” which has different effects.

As I already said, playing Strikers online is the best. Its sad to say that the first game to have WiFi playability is still the best. The other two main online games by Nintendo (Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros) all lack a good, solid WiFi setup. With Super Smash Bros, you can only play against someone who you have exchanged friend codes with, and with Mario Kart you can only race friends against other friends. So if you and a friend want to race, and none of your other friends are online, its going to be a 2-man race, which gets boring real fast.

So yeah, Strikers is my favorite game to play online. Its a lot of fun, and the controls are relatively easy to pick up on quickly. I for one highly recommend Strikers for playing on and offline.

Wii- Boom Blox Review

The first time Steve and I played this, we lost all track of time. It is a seriously awesome game.

Basically, you either throw balls at a tower of blocks to knock off certain ones, or you pull out certain blocks (kinda like Jenga). The multi-player mode is phenomenal. We spent 3 hours playing it and had no idea how much time had passed because it was so fun. There’s a bunch of different multi-player modes that include several different maps. Also, the game supports up to four players, making this a ridiculously awesome party game.

The single player mode is also amazing. There are a lot of different modes to play through, most having some sort of “story” about one of the Boom Blox animals, and you help them through the story. Also, as you play through single-player mode, you unlock pieces that you can use to create your own puzzles and maps in the create mode.

All in all, this game is most definitely worth checking out. This game is one of my top 5 Wii games!!!

I own a Wii, and love it. Sure, it has its flaws, but at the same time, it has a lot of great features that make it totally awesome.

What I’ll start doing is going through and writing up some short reviews about games I play. It shouldn’t take too long to get caught up, because I write game reviews at miiplaza.com, so I’ll just copy my review from there to here.

By the end of the week there will be a whole slew of game reviews on here, and I will always be adding more as I play more.

Back to School…

So tomorrow starts my first day of classes. Im a bit nervous, with this being graduate school and all. First off, I dont know what to expect from education classes, since I never took them at Oneonta.

Secondly, Im required to take a graduate-level history course. Now if you can recall, I went nuts my senior year working on my senior seminar history class, which was a 300-level course. This course Im taking now is a 500-level course. So yeah, Im a bit nervous about the upcoming workload. But I guess its worth it. I just want to graduate and start up a career, as opposed to slaving away for restaurant and retail chains…

Well, the site is up and running, after about two days of being kinda cruddy. As you can see by reading this, I upgraded to WordPress Blog, which is a better blogging system than my old one. With this, I am able to keep my blogs neat and tidy in different categories, as well as other stuff.

Of course, the downfall of this is that I lost all my previous blogs, but I dont think its such a big loss, since I doubt many of them were actually read. Im hoping this new blog system will give my site some much-needed flare and hopefully attract some additional outside readers.

And some thanks are due to my man Steve, who helped get this blog fully integrated with the rest of my site. Im telling ya, hes the next Bill Gates.
